Liberals really view Tsarist Russia, the Soviet Union, and the Russian Federation as one continuous blob of Evil Russianness and expect people to take their opinions on anything related to it seriously
Those were not merely my opinions that you have blocked (and me included), those were historical facts. No country is inherently good nor evil, but some have contributed more evil-ness to the world than others. Some, such as Germany, admitted their atrocities and rightfully paid for them. Others, because they were among the winners of WWII, escaped unscathed, and have the privilege to call themselves heroes to this day. This, this is what irks me. They are not heroes. The Soviets have only ever served their own interests. The Ribbentrop-Molotov pact was only terminated when Nazi Germany attacked the Soviets. And, I have to give them credit where it is due - they truly did help defeat the Nazi evil. But instead of fucking off right back to their country after the war was done, they decided to just reoccupy what they could after the Nazis where gone, becoming an evil of their own. And to everyone who says how great that worked out for us, well, just fucking look. The Eastern European countries never had what you would call booming economies. Neither was life in a Soviet satellite country especially bright. My grandma (hell, even my mom is old enough to remember some of it, and she is only in her early forties) has plenty of anecdotes to portray this fact - such as standing in line at the store for hours, just to buy some bananas. Tangerines and oranges were a luxury, only reserved for Christmas. Black markets were booming. Freedom of press - abysmal. Religious freedom, just as so. Those who wanted to escape from the country were stopped from doing so. Some (49 recorded cases) were shot at the border fences or torn apart by guard dogs. Many political opponents were executed (190 people between the years 1948-53).
My country never asked to be a satellite state for Nazi Germany, just as it had never asked to be one for the Soviets, but we were forced into in anyway. Yet, decades later, they still ask us to be thankful for what they did to (not for) us. I do not ask for their accomplishments during the war to be forgotten - as their troops played a pivotal rule in stopping the Germans. But it is painfully obvious to anyone willing to see that the Soviets did so to save their own interests, and only after their pact with Hitler was broken.
This was just the Soviets, and just what they did related to my own country, and not covering all they have done (such as their invasion of Czechoslovakia during Prague Spring).
If anyone who successfully passed ninth grade of primary school in Eastern Europe has something to add, please do.
And, to my dear comrade Brendanicus - rest assured I am not a liberal, and it would help you to stop looking at the world through the lens of an American. It sorely hurts your image of a young hopeful communist.
