what the FUCK did Jolene look like
I'll never forget my first pride.
I can't remember my actual age, but it was in the range of 10 to 13 I think. my parents had dragged me to a Pride festival, and walked across the street from the main event, across where the lines were drawn, to where a sea of people in red shirts that read "god has a better way" tried to drown out the celebration with speakers blasting christian music, and shouting and loud praying.
the leaders pulled all us kids to the side and gave us the spiel. they told us how the rainbow had been stolen from us, and that these people were tricked by the devil and just needed prayer, but that if we didn't save them, they were going to hell.
I rolled my eyes because I already didn't believe in god, and although I barely knew what being gay was, I knew my parents were usually on the Wrong side of things, and I shouldn't be siding with them.
"We aren't allowed over there if we're wearing the red shirts," the leaders told us, "so we're sending people over in secret without them so you can pass out tracts and pray for people. they won't talk to us, but they'll talk to the kids. does anyone want to volunteer?"
the people in red shirts disgusted me. the people on the other side of the line were cheering and having fun. I raised my hand.
we were supposed to go in groups with young adults, to make sure we were doing what we were supposed to be. I wandered off the minute I could and stood nervously at the edge of a crowd, watching on as people went by, happy and unbothered by the protests across the street. I felt a little pride myself in tricking the protestors into giving up a witness spot to me, when I was going to smile on and think profanities at god instead.
there was an older woman standing outside the crowd too. she asked if I was here with anyone, a girlfriend maybe? I said no, my parents were across the street. she nodded, and said she was here with her kid. a daughter, that she came to support, but couldn't keep up with in the crowd.
I almost cried. I told her how amazing that was, because I couldn't imagine my mother showing support like that to me over anything, much less something as serious as Being Gay. I imagined if I was gay, and at a pride event just like now, but this time because I Belong.
I knew automatically that my mother, without a doubt, would still be in the same place, across the street.
I got hungry after a bit, and tried to find a good food truck. I had a little money and I was unused to being on my own like this, but I didn't want to go back to the Other Side. I knew now without a shadow of a doubt, this was the Good side and that was the Bad side.
as I was eating the gyro I got, there was a stream of red shirted protestors trickling through; I had reached the end of the boundaries, and the protestors were allowed in here. I backed up a little, spotting my dad among them. I didn't want him to tell me to go back.
there was a line of women closing ranks around the Pride attendees, separating them from the protesters as they walked through. they spread their arms out and told every person the protesters spoke to that they were not obligated to respond, they could walk away and not engage.
my dad spotted me back, and made a beeline over. he couldn't cross over because a butch lesbian stood between us. I didn't know what those words meant, but I never forgot the buttons she was wearing.
he tried to tell me that it was time to go. "you're not obligated to speak to him," the butch said, cutting him off and edging further between us. I smiled at her, a little in wonderment. no one had ever told me that I didn't have to speak to my parents, or do anything other than blindly obey them. I watched my dad get held behind a line by a woman half his height, with no intention on letting him get to me, and I smiled and walked away.
I didn't have a clue who I was then, and I wouldn't for a good few years to come. but I never forgot the supportive mother, who symbolized to me everything a mother should be, that mine, for all her religious self righteousness, would never hold a candle to. I never forgot that she was the person I wanted to be, and my mother was the person I did not want to be.
I never forgot the butch who stood between me and my dad, and for the first time ever, put the idea in my head that I was ALLOWED to make my own choices in my beliefs, and made me feel protected in a way I hadn't known I needed.
the image of her standing between me and my dad, being a physical barrier to protect me against any potential threat, that inspired the image of who I admired and wanted to become. it inspired the version of me who could stand up to my dad - to the point that I could hold my ground and educate him enough that over a decade later, he walked side by side with me at a pride festival, with no intent of witnessing to or condemning anybody.
pride month may be over, but the impact this month and these events can have is so damn important. I became who I am because of two people I met at a pride festival. I'll never forget.
i am not a psychiatrist but i do find it really weird how autism checklists are so often focused on "outward" signs of autism rather than what is going on internally. i don't know how to explain it but "do you make eye contact with other people" feels like a much less relevant question than "how does it feel when you have to make eye contact with other people?"
while i'm here, the other one that always pisses me off is "do you interpret idioms literally, for example 'bull in a china shop'?"
well, no, obviously. i know what "bull in a china shop" means because that is a popular phrase with a clearly defined meaning. and if i hadn't heard it before, then i would still not interpret it literally, because it has the cadence of an idiom and i would probably be able to work out from context what it meant. what is the point of this question
third and final complaint: "are you good at noticing subtext?"
i feel like the problem with this question is best illustrated by a conversation i had with a friend a while back, where i said something like, "i feel very safe with you because you don't do subtle hints and you are always very straight-up with me about what you are thinking and feeling."
and he laid a hand on my shoulder and was like, look dude i'm gonna be straight up here. i am subtle with you constantly and you simply do not notice <3
@luckyybones hope you don't mind me screenshotting but you are actually so correct
xena gave us trans drag lesbianism as a treat
There are layers to this. Earlier in the episode, Xena discovers her secret while they're sharing a locker room. A woman she has got naked with turned out to be trans. It's the exact scenario terfs are always fear-mongering about, but Xena just shrugs it off.
Also, the kiss was a big deal not just because it was gay but because the trans actress was HIV positive. They wanted to show the world that you can't contract HIV just from kissing someone. Bear in mind, the AIDS crisis was still fresh on people's minds in the 90s.
Happy Pride.

Apparently some people still need to hear this so: using an 'ai checker' is still using ai. If you are feeding someone's fic to one of these checkers, you will still not be sure their fic is ai because they are not 100% accurate, but you can be 100% sure that you are using ai. For fic. Furthermore you are doing the work of an ai scraper for them. You are, personally, feeding the machine. There is no actual excuse for using an ai checker on fanfic as a hobby. YOU are the problem.
If you think a fic is ai, mute it and move on. That's it. That's all you do.

Senshi (Dungeon Meshi)
Ryland Grace (Project Hail Mary)
Mr. Ant Tenna (Deltarune)
Tenna art by @9Aaaalt29 on twt
“And if you’ll give me 40% of the MOST POPULAR VOTE, I’ll give you my SPECIAL REWARD... A year’s supply of NON-GLOOBY SLIME!!! Never or BARELY used!!!” Tenna concluded his speech with a huge smile, jetting his hands up in double peace signs.
The crowd roared in confused enthusiasm as Tenna gave a gracious flurry of low-FPS bows, pausing only for the occasional stink-nose at his audience plants who weren’t throwing enough 3D roses.
Eventually, the room fell silent. It was Senshi’s turn to speak.
He puffed out his chest, took a long, sweeping look over the audience… and shook his head.
“I can see not all of you are eating properly.”
The crowd murmured with embarrassment.
“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but it’s time to take the turkey out of your icebox. I have seen the ingenious technology with which your people store food... and I have also seen the waste which results from such convenience.
“The food you take had a life. Beasts grew fat on the grass of the field, plants grew from the sun’s rays, and mushrooms grew from minerals in the cracks of caves. And yet, it sits in your iceboxes, collecting moisture until it perishes.
“Eat what is given to you. Because its life will make you stronger, too.”
Without another word, Senshi left his podium and stepped away from the stage. The crowd murmured in confusion. “Is he really like that?” somebody said. “I only remember reblogging the photosets of him tripping and showing ass.”
--
Back in the Green Room, Tenna wrung his antennas nervously.
“Y-y-you think they liked me!? They HAD to!! I mean, I don’t know what Asgore was thinking, getting that weird haircut and running that food waste campaign, but… YOU thought I did good, didn’t you, Kris?”
Laios nodded aggressively, a streak of blue face paint peeling from his forehead.
“You did AMAZING, Tenna! By the way, now that we’ve seen all your insider campaign secrets, do you have any more videos of Susie? Especially her tail... If I could get a look at that, I could finally tell if she’s a dinosaur or --”
THWACK. Fake antlers butted Laios’s head.
“LAIOS?? Weren’t we dressed up to help SENSHI???” Marcille hissed, gesturing awkwardly with her hooves.
Suddenly, Tenna turned to the two adventurers.
“Hey, WAIT a second. SOMETHING’s not right here...”
Laios and Marcille held their breath.
“Where the heck are my POINTS!?”
Just then, the door opened. Chilchuck took one step into the room, whistling and holding a large bag.
Everyone turned to him.
Chilchuck paused, took a step backwards, and closed the door.
“CHILCHUCK!!!” yelled Tenna.
“How come Chilchuck got to stay Chilchuck!?” yelled Marcille at the same time.

Meanwhile, in outer space somewhere, some guy was making out with a rock.
Oh wow someone made a fanfic over this conte- TOBY FOX???
made this because i hate my uni and it’s shitty ass ‘fire safety’ talk where they don’t even tell you how to use a fire blanket
After my experience with fire on Sunday i wish fire safety was talked about more.
I’ve found that fire safety is poorly explained to people for reasons I don’t quite understand. This is why I made this PowerPoint so long ago. I might make an updated one some day.
In elementary school we were always taught “stop, drop, and roll” and how to escape a school bus if it crashed, but then they just followed it up with “and ask your parents about their fire plan at home” without any elaboration on what those plans might include outside of “get out of the house.”
Well that’s kinda fucking horrifying. Guess imma drop some knowledge rn:
Stop, drop, and roll works best for fires that DON’T use accelerants. This is because it STARVES THE FIRE OF OXYGEN. And we all know oxygen is part of that nifty triad for making burny burny hot flames. Anything that burns hot, like oil, is a nightmare at the best of times, when you’re on fire, it eats your skin and dries it out. That makes it a bad idea to stretch it and cause further damage by rolling. If you have no other CHOICE tho, SDR can be the difference between life and death.
If you’re trapped in a house by a fire, turn on a fucking tap and/or soak something you can throw over yourself. This gives you the chance to NOT ROAST TO DEATH. We like not roasting to death. Also, it’s harder for something wet to burn (I know, and water is wet too, I get this is Obvious™ to you but it’s not to others so shut up). A duvet that’s wrapped around you and sopping wet is a good method of getting out of the house because it’s a buffer between you and the burny hot murder flames. Buffers are good.
When it comes to a vehicle that’s caught fire, you definitely wanna get the fuck outta dodge ASAP. Forget getting your house keys, forget trying to parallel park, forget grabbing your favourite mask with the cute dog print on it. You get the fuck out of the car IMMEDIATELY (yeah, having to point this out is Necessary, believe me).
Any fire plan for a home should include multiple ingress and egress points (how to get in and how to get the fuck out) as well as information of where the necessary fire equipment is. A fire extinguisher or fire blanket in the kitchen, which door is most fire resistant, etc. If you don’t know any of that shit, find out. If your parents don’t know any of that shit then use the following:
Fire blankets can be bought. You might need to order online but you can get them and they do come in a variety of types. Kitchen ones are for oil and electrical fires usually.
Fire extinguishers come in different sizes and can also be bought. Best options are foam and co2. Foam is excellent for electrical fires, co2 for literally anything else you might find in the house. Have one for each level of your home. Seriously.
General rule of thumb is that the thicker the wooden door, the longer it’s gonna last against flames. Depending on if the door has a lacker/varnish finish of course. Fire doors are usually 4cm thick or more (in the UK) and give you up to an hour. Break that down and that means you get maybe 20-25 minutes per cm. This doesn’t translate perfectly to a 2cm door of course, but it can give you an estimate of which room might have the best door for avoiding becoming roast person.
I really wasn’t kidding about shoving your mattress out your window for escape by the way. It’s a totally legit way of Not Dying.
If you’re trapped upstairs by the flames and you can’t get to any windows, stay low to the ground, cover your mouth with something, and try to get to water. The shower can be very good for not getting dead. Soak yourself, your clothes etc.
The thing that kills people isn’t the flames usually. It’s the smoke. Stay low. Cover your mouth. Flames like to climb, not spread across the ground. Smoke likes to be high. Avoid both and you might survive.
Orange flames are a cooler temperature than pure white. Don’t try and escape through white flames. Also, don’t throw water on them. The water droplets literally can explode from the rapid temperature change and change from a liquid to a gas. You do not want to have mini gas explosions in your face as you’re trying to escape. That’s just adding a layer of agony to the already agonising near-death experience.
These are generalised tips and advice that I learnt over the years of having a step-dad who was a fire safety expert for firefighters, police, and major industrial companies. Take them on board, please.
EDIT: So I’m a bit of a dumbass who didn’t pay attention to what I was writing but, to make something very clear.
DO NOT USE A FOAM EXTINGUISHER ON AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. USE CO2 OR ABC POWDER.
😅
Heyo, firefighter’s brat here. If you feel the need to open a door to check “Hey, is that fire out there?” ‘cause you see funny lights and smell something funky is that smoke?, always check the door before opening it. Put the BACK of your hand up against the center, NOT the handle - Several reasons for all that! Handles have metal, and if that gets hot it could burn. If you use your palm, your hand wants to automatically clench, so then you could have your muscles holding on tight to hot metal, which is a not fun time for anyone - the back, however, has the automatic reaction to pull away instead. The back of your hand is more sensitive, so if there’s heat on the other side you’ll be able to tell better/sooner, and if you do manage to burn the back, you can still reasonably grasp and hold things as compared to if you’ve hurt your palm.
Always important to be fire safe.
As a separate note, I live on the 7th floor of my dorm room. I don’t think a mattress would cushion my fall enough to save me from death upon impacting Mr. Ground. Also don’t think I have the ability to pile up enough clothes to fix that problem. Any other advice for high floors?
If you’re trapped that high up and can’t feasibly escape through the window then the following might be your best bet:
Make sure your door is shut. As many doors as you can safely shut between you and the fire is good.
If you can get to your bathroom or kitchen sink, try and soak something you can put over yourself. A blanket. Duvet. Coat. Scarf. Anything. This will help if you are exposed to flames.
Cover your face immediately. Limit exposure to smoke and hot air. Stay low. Don’t breathe through your mouth if you can.
If you have no other choice and can’t get to a window or even out the building, the bathroom may be your best bet.
Soak a towel, shove it at bottom of the door. Soak the whole ass bathroom. Who cares if you ruin your lovely print paintings or whatever. Wet ground is harder for fire to catch on. So are tiles.
Hide in the bath if you have one. Add water and a wet towel over yourself. Baths tend to be ceramic. That’s good.
The shower is also good. Get that water running. Keep it cool in the area. Stay under the spray.
The thing that gets you isn’t the flames, it’s the smoke. Stay low, cover your mouth. Try not to breathe through your mouth. You want those nostrils to keep filtering particulates as best as possible.
Have your phone with you. Be on the phone with emergency services. Do not hang up. Tell them where you are in your home. They will relay it to the emergency services on the scene.
If you live in a place that has balconys and the fire is only on your floor, you could, if you’re trapped and can’t get to the bathroom, make a sheet rope and shimmy down to the floor below.
This is dangerous.
If you can, avoid it. Don’t do it. This is last resort.
Tie knots in the sheets as you go. This will give you purchase when climbing down.
Don’t fall and don’t die. Please.
I repeat. Don’t do this if you have other options.
It is The Last Resort.
I was once told that if you’re stuck in a room by fire and can’t escape and have no access to water - and it’s a fairly modern building - there’s a decent chance you can break through the drywall to access a water pipe. Or I guess fully break through into a different room? Idk
here's two articles about how JK Rowling just posted on X an upskirt photo of Freda Wallace, a transgender woman, after deadnaming her and misgendering her repeatedly online.
The wealthy author escalated a social media spat that resulted in posting a photo from a 2023 event at the Institute of Economic Affairs in
Rowling posted the picture taken from below because the trans woman, she said, was "refusing to debate me."
Thank you for posting without the fucking destiel meme
So in summation; Rowling demanded access to a woman’s time and when she couldn’t get it she retaliated by posting an upskirt image of her and called her fat, and some of her fans even went “I think I can see her genitals”.
She literally went “debate me! Debate me!” Over and over like the grifter she is and when she couldn’t get what she wanted and when “no” wasn’t enough she resorted to retaliatory sex-pestery, posting an image of somebody’s body with intention to shame and embarrass and spawn more waspish tittering from her internet followers.
Rowling is trash and this is disgraceful behavior, in case anyone has forgotten.
She had also claimed Freda "deserved" this sexual harassment because of what she was wearing... You know... The same excuse used over and over to try and justify rape.
J K Rowling committed a sex crime against a trans woman (specifically, violating the Sexual Offences Act 2003)
(1) A person (A) commits an offence if—
(a) A intentionally shares a photograph or film which shows, or appears to show, another person (B) in an intimate state, (b) B does not consent to the sharing of the photograph or film, and (c) A does not reasonably believe that B consents.
(2) A person (A) commits an offence if—
(a) A intentionally shares a photograph or film which shows, or appears to show, another person (B) in an intimate state, (b) A does so with the intention of causing B alarm, distress or humiliation, and (c) B does not consent to the sharing of the photograph or film.
While it is vanishingly unlikely the police will take any action, given this is an incredibly powerful (and litigious) billionaire committing a sex crime against a trans woman, it may still be worth filing a report or notice to try and demonstrate public concern.
If you live in Scotland (or indeed anywhere in the UK), you can call the police directly on 101.
Alternatively, you can file an anonymous report online through Crimewatch: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/forms/give-information-anonymously

5001 being divisible by 3 doesnt feel right
Shortcuts to determine if an integer is divisible by:
This is a given.
If the last digit is divisible by 2 (a.k.a. even), then so is the whole number.
If the sum of the digits is divisible by 3, then so is the whole number. The recursivity of this means that if the sum has multiple digits, you can add them up again until you get a single digit and see if it's 3, 6, or 9.
Like the rule for 2, but check if the last two digits are divisible by 4.
If it ends in 5 or 0.
If the rules for both 2 and 3 apply.
No shortcut. Alas.
Like the rules for 2 and 4, but check if the last three digits are divisible by 8. (Yes, this pattern keeps going for 16, 32, etc.)
Like the rule for 3, but the sum of the digits (or the sum of the sum of the digits, etc.) must be 9.
If it ends in 0.
