It’s set in an era where there are no Jedi, they’re all but extinct, It’s about the fact that God’s not coming to save us. We’re on our own – and we have to do this ourselves and turn around. The absence of the Jedi is omnipresent – it hangs over the whole movie – and it comes down to a group of individuals that don’t have magical powers but have to somehow bring hope to the galaxy.

When I was a kid, before the accident… I’d lay awake at night listening to the sirens. I liked to put stories to them. Trying to figure out what they were for, ambulance or cops, robbery or fire. I don’t know, just a stupid game. But after I lost my sight, after my abilities developed, I realized how many sirens there actually were… how much this city suffered every single night.

During the scene when Mulan decides to go to war instead of her father, she decides to do it while sitting on the foot of the Great Stone Dragon. The image of the dragon looking over Mulan is repeatpred several times throughout the sequence, and the bolts of lightning strike at significant times whenever the dragon is in sight. When Mulan takes her father’s scroll and when she is praying to her ancestors, the Great Stone Dragon can be seen. It is also engraved on the sword Mulan uses to cut her hair and the handles of the wardrobe containing the armor are in the shape of the dragon’s head. The dragon’s eyes glowing in the temple symbolizes Mulan’s role as protector of her family awakening, instead of the actual dragon.

The reason Mushu couldn’t wake the dragon is because the dragon was no longer there. Mulan is implied to be the Great Dragon that protects her family.

I love this take. It’s also kind of interesting as often the chinese dragon is seen as quite a masculine symbol (the phoenix for the feminine) in Chinese culture. Which suits- because while historically there HAVE been female Chinese warriors- Mulan did step into what was broadly considered the world of men to protect her family.

An update! A bit later than I anticipated because I discovered that tumblr removes input fields from custom pages and had to find another hosting solution.

New Features:

Ability to hide/show features (borders, labels, etc.)

Deep Roads Map (many thanks to higheverrains, who allowed me to extrapolate from their Deep Roads theory and add it as a feature to the map! It is hidden by default but can be viewed by checking “Show Deep Roads Map” under Show Features.)

Two different distance grids (each with 30km/60km versions based on average walking/riding distance in a day) based on different theories.

Labels on the oceans and seas!

Added a handful of additional locations from DAI

Improvements / Bug Fixes:

Zooming in/out functions more smoothly now

West Hill is now in the correct location (… also thanks to higheverrains)

… Rivain no longer gets chopped in half when you zoom in on it.

Coming Soon(ish):

My next goalpost is to refactor some of the code to make the map load more quickly. Once that is complete, I’ll probably gradually move into adding additional detail based on the location maps from DAI. Let me know if you are interested in helping out! (No coding experience required, just a basic image editor and some patience)
