“Now that he can do so much more..”

I wanna take a moment and observe this line from Katsuki.

In order to do that we gotta go back and look at what we’ve learned about Deku. Alternatively you can call this post “The fatal flaw of Izuku Midoriya.”

I wanna take a moment and look at this particular line. “He’s always been like that.” Before One for All, before UA, way before meeting All Might, Deku has always been the hero that jumped in to save Bakugo from the sludge villain that day. It’s easy to look at his Origin, and be like “That was his moment when he became a hero.” But it wasn’t. It was just the first time his actions were recognized. Deku’s always been getting himself into situations like the sludge villain attack ever since Bakugo could remember. In fact, the very first page of the manga, we see that!

What made All Might recognize Deku was the fact that he was “timid and quirkless” but jumped in to save his friend anyway. Well we later learn in the manga that quirkless timid Deku has apparently done a lot of attempts at Hero work.

This is why the story of Gentle Criminal struck so close to home for him. Because he has been there! All this boy wants to do is save and help people, but he could only do so much with his limited ability. While this quality in Deku inspires All Might. It terrifies Bakugo.

I wanna look at this. We know from 295 that at this point, Deku and Bakugo KNOW what the 4ths quirk is which is what inspires this conversation in the first place. Bakugo is helping Deku get stronger but is obviously losing sleep over the possibility that Deku unlocks this specific quirk. And it REALLY doesn’t help that All Might is keeping something from them about the original user of the quirk. Knowing what we know about Deku, a quirk like “Danger Sense” is the worst possible combination for his self sacrificing nature.

Again. We are constantly reminded by Bakugo that throwing himself away for others is Deku’s thing. Now he has the power to actually save everyone he wants to. Now he can actually do so much more than what he was able to as a quirkless child , and it comes at an extreme personal cost. Without road blocks, there is nothing stopping Deku from getting involved in every waking disaster he can sense and unless Deku works on this flaw of his, nothing to stop him from getting himself killed.

I find it very interesting that Deku, someone who never thinks of himself, feels so uncomfortable having other people worry about him. It’s this new insecurity he develops because other people’s feelings are his only road block to being kind of hero he is and has ALWAYS been. The kind who doesn’t take himself into consideration at all.

And while All Might learns this about him slowly, Bakugo has always known this is who Deku is. That if Deku CAN, he WILL ATTEMPT no matter the personal consequences. Which brings us back to the terrifying nature of the 4th’s quirk and One for All in general. Current Deku can do so much more than quirkless Deku and unless he finds the worth in himself separated from OFA, separated from All Might, and separated from being a hero, he is going to drive himself to a place of no return. Hopefully Bakugo can get through to him before it’s too late. If not, his goal of having others not worry about him is a lot farther than it seems.

i’m experiencing “post-series depression” and can’t stop obsessing over alex standall (and charlie st. george). so i sketched alex over the past week, i have no art style so it constantly changes each day... ughh, i wish he and charlie had more screen time :’((( **the top left was without a reference and it’s my fave because he looks like an anime character hehe (plus, i feel like i was closest to drawing his gorgeous eyebrows well)
