There's this little trend on Tik Tok and I absolutely HAD to make a Martha version....

a poem for my lover; cherries.

summer cherries glisten in the sun.

red always was the color of temptation, wasn't it?

the fruit collapses gently, a single bite needed.

there is a melting, juice dribbling on the chin.

my teeth gently tug at the remaining flesh on the pit,

a gentle begging, a desire for the naked exposure of the hard interior you have made to survive, to grow.

the pit is bare, i suck gently, my tongue feels the texture, the grooves, the seam, the landscape of the innermost, the contours of the intimate.

i gently spit the pit into my palms, i cradle it. there is wetness of saliva, and red juice pulses on my fingerprints. i have consumed, but there is always a remainder, a strength, a passion. inedible permanence so i can do it all again.

i would stain you, and it would be beautiful.
