stop-motion feature films made by reputable stop-motion animation production comanies i think would have been a box office flop if they were CGI
I'm not even a fan of wes anderson but I think its ridiculous for performers to complain about his rhythmic precision and how tight his directoral style is when the idea is that those measures set his work apart both architecturally and in artistic integrity specifically in creative faith. one of the fantastic mr. fox animators and also biggest wes anderson hater i've ever met was complaining to me about how he would breathe down their necks about the way the puppets moved in a manner which crucially was so contrary to all the "knowedge" of character movement he'd garnered as an animator. but i think that that kind of contradictory intensity is perfectly reasonable if not a necessary reformation for stop-motion animation as a genre and I personally insist that if we keep giving big budgets to stop motion films they have to have more creative merit and artistic significance than simply a way to purport a "we use aesthetic manual labor!" card over a blockbuster ass narrative. Large studio animation companies like aardman and laika and shadow machine all have the same goal, which is basically to make a film which could not be distinguished from a stock-plot computer generated disney film were it not for the distinct frame-by frame flicker and depth of feild that you can't replicate in a software program. the heart of stop motion is in the creativity of limitation and studios have essentially put a limitation on creativity. that's mawkish asf but i mean to say thst anything fanciful or waggish is now exclusively (+flacidly) pushed into the premise and sucked out of the fabrication of the actual visuals. Every day I watch a 12 minute stop-motion animation made by some 19 year old in her garage that has more integrity than GDT's pinocchio. I've strayed so far from the point but i think wes anderson probably has to some extent a grip on that concept.

if rpf starts to smell like fan service I develop severe second hand embarassment i can really only ship people who it is obvious have not been personally pressed in a production, managerial, online, or press capacity to interact in that way.
this is so stupid of course i would say this like duh bc then it makes it not "real" 🤦♀️

did you know that one day the standard of wide shots without swapping closeups every time someone says something will be re-instituted and we'll be able to see both actors at once?
