I worked for some huge rock bands back in the 2000s. I even ran a blog for one of them to post behind the scenes, backstage stuff. Let me give you some inside perspective of what Pedro is dealing with/may have to deal with.
The band I worked for, the guitar player was super in demand. His house was broken into three different times by fans, including one who crawled into his bed naked. His family has been followed and stalked by fans. Family and friends constantly receive mail from fans hoping to get their stuff to him faster. Women (and some men) literally stripped naked in front of them. Girlfriends and ex-girlfriends were threatened, followed, harassed, houses broken into, workplaces harassed. Funerals and weddings were crashed by fans hoping to get a glimpse of him. Cell phones hacked, causing his friends and families contact information leaked. His credit and family credit information stolen. Guitars stolen. His mother’s grave constantly invaded by fans. While on tour, going to stores and bars where it is so crowded he is shoved and cornered and can’t get out. Every habit of his is scrutinized. He gains/loses weight and fans are “concerned.” They fantasize about certain body parts he’s actually very self conscious of. Photos of him taken of him inside a hotel room, from across the street in another hotel (sound familiar?) He was constantly photographed everywhere causing him to feel trapped inside his home. Ive watch him have to waste the day talking to management, legal and family and friends to fix problems caused by FANS. I’ve physically seen the emotional damage it does. I’ve watched him develop depression and social anxiety from all of this. I watched him dive deeper in his alcoholism and nearly kill himself from it. ALL FROM FANS ACTING LIKE THIS.
Let this sink in: THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT PEDRO IS DEALING WITH. Does this sound scary to you? How would you feel? How insecure would you get? How embarrassed would you be? How scared for your family and friends would you be?
So the next time he posts about his family and friends, consider it a gift and treat it with respect and leave him his dignity. He’s already retreating from social because things like this are beginning to happen.
