FUTURE OF SWIFTIES/ REPUTATION ERA
Well, I feel like this has to be said and may or may not be a ‘popular’ opinion, but it’s important so please share. I really care about Taylor, personally and you should too.
It’s 2017 and Taylor Swift has entered a new ERA in her music career but potentially also her public life.
Ever since Taylor stepped into the spotlight at the young and volnuerable age of 16, her entire life has been unfairly disected/scrutinized by tabloids, media and the industry in general. They know she is important to so many lives (like mine) and that literally anything about her will populate sales/attention. Regardless of how VILE, PETTY, SEXIST and/or UNJUST their content or comments are - it’s always there. It’s a form of constant abuse, bullying taking advantage of her and what she has chosen to share publicly, and EVEN personal & private stuff she hasn’t! She can’t even participate in traditional or mundane day to day things, without being scorned under the world’s most critical microscope. (Yes fame warrants some attention…but this level is outrageously disturbing). This has continued on for over 10 years! Take a step back, how do you think you would handle something like that…for that long? Could you? I don’t even know if I could imagine! Taylor has a strength in her that is unfathomable.
So that leads me to 2017 and the reputation ERA that is upon us. Taylor has drawn a line in the sand with the media simply stating ‘There will be no further explanation, only reputation.’
*Having seen what she has gone through for so long, I want Swifties to consider but ALSO UNDERSTAND, ACCEPT AND SUPPORT that Taylor MAY NOT be as publicly open with her personal life as she was before. She WILL NOT be media’s poster child of ‘Free Sales and Clicks’, in fact we may not see much of her at all outside of ‘reputation’ unless she wants us to. She will however, be with us on occasion(like always), on tour with us and possibly using new ways to connect with fans.
I will always be grateful for her gift of music, story telling, love for fans and utter perseverance in a society that is determined to use her to their advantage and kick her when she’s down. Well, let me be one of many to kindly deliver the media with this reality check. The free ride is OVER - Taylor isn’t taking your shit anymore. There will only be reputation.
