I recently have accepted a job as a library assistant at my local library! I'm so excited and nervous at the same time. What I have been wondering about is what to wear. According to the dress code it's business casual and I have to option to wear jeans. My style is a mixture of Jessica Day from New Girl and Daria. What is appropriate (and moveable) to wear without sacrificing my style?
First of all, congratulations on your new job!
Judging by the description of your style I definitely think it’s possible to stay true to that without sacrificing much at all. “Business casual” is such a vague descriptor that it’s basically meaningless. I (Kelly) work in a business casual environment and people think that I’m always dressed up just because I always wear dresses/skirts. If you’re truly in doubt, you can take a look at what your coworkers are wearing and go from there, but you sound like a smart cookie.
Depending on what you’re doing in your job, you may want to wear things that are easy to squat and bend in. I’m a big fan of leggings under dresses/skirts just in case you have to shimmy under a table or something like that. Most importantly, wear something that YOU are comfortable with, both physically and mentally - confidence goes a long way when it comes to comfort.
Go out there and work it! You’ll do great!

!! urgent !! please help a disabled trans person get medical treatment for their disabilities
my youcaring page can be found here [linked]
I am a disabled transgender undergraduate student with a bunch of doctors and medications. I really need them, but I’m out of money and in a lot of medical debt.
I’m currently more than $1125 in debt with my bank account. That’s not including college loans, and is almost entirely medical expenses. My credit card is almost maxed out – and, by the end of the week, it will be, as I see one of my doctors tomorrow.
My youcaring page can be found here [linked]
But even after tomorrow, I still need to go to that doctor, as well as a number of others.
Also I really, really have to have my medications. I have 5 prescriptions currently; I already ran out of one and will run out of another in about a week from making this post.
To top it off, I’m having some issues with my college’s campus police with regards to parking. Basically, I’ve gotten tickets for parking where I can put my car and still get back to where I live. That doesn’t always mean that I can park in residential spaces because there is very little parking here. In total, the tickets and registration cost just under $400. I need my car to get to the doctor and to move around because my mobility is impaired. But they have already put a wheel clamp on my car once, and I really can’t have it happen again. It seems a bit weird to think of that as a medical expense but… it does relate. I’m working on getting a handicap placard, but it’s been a slow process for me, and adds another barrier for my ability to get around.
Any funds I get will first go to paying for the treatments I need. Next, I’ll be paying for doctors’ visits. Any other funds will go toward paying off some of the debt accrued from past medical expenses, and sometimes I’ll use the money for transportation. You can visit my youcaring page here [linked]. Please donate if you can, and please signal boost regardless.
small update: i officially only have $2 of available credit on my credit card. i still haven’t been able to pick up my medication that i ran out of or the stuff i’m nearly out of. i also have 3 appointments with different doctors next week, but i can’t pay for any of them. i don’t want to have to cancel because i really need them.
another update: while driving to the doctor this morning, my engine light came on. i have an appointment to have a check up on my car on wednesday, but i don’t know what could be wrong with it or what the costs will be. i absolutely cannot afford for my car to be out of commission. please help.
so it’s wednesday and i got my car checked on. my mom said that she had some space on her credit card - just enough to cover the tire replacement that i didn’t realize i needed, but the tread was so low that it was actually illegal to be driving it.
despite her paying for the tires, that still puts me back for the cost of the fluids i need to fix my engine and the oil change, which will be $50-$100 (because i’m going to do most of it myself). thank god for your donations because i can cover it, but that puts me back a good chunk.
It’s one of those mornings.

My work bag is always going to be a backpack, I need to keep my hands free. I’ve had great luck with the SwissGear brand and am currently hauling around the 6688 style. If I’m not hauling a backpack, then it’s an over the shoulder purse big enough to carry a small tablet.
Dresses are from SWAK Designs, the purple one is what I wore for my Ignite Session at ALAAC15 and the black is a go to work dress all year long.

Alien: Hey humans, you sound nice.
NASA: Haha thanks. You should come over :)
Alien: Uhhh, what? Our technology isn't advanced enough yet. But we can just talk for a while.
NASA: Aww damn. SO what are you doing?
ALien: Ummm, just like... operating our technology to contact you I guess? Translating your language?
NASA: But what would you be doing if I was there haha ;)
