It has been a while, so I wanted to come back with a documentary show that really has an impact on a number of different unique lifestyles and cultures. So many compelling views on the ways in which women are used and empowered, depending on how you look at it. In my opinion, although their intentions are overwhelmingly honest, the feminists interviewed in this episode are too in-depth with their analysis of words such as ‘slut’ and the impacts this has on young women in modern society. I feel that the slut walk is a powerful objective that begs everyone to think differently about sex workers and those who just want to take their living into their own hands. Just as word definitions have changed throughout history, ‘slut’, ‘hoe’ and ‘whore’ no longer carry the same derogatory connotations that they once did. All in all, taking the power away from the words makes them less offensive in my opinion, I mean they are just words, right? I consider myself a feminist, but that does not mean that I agree with all of the views expressed in this documentary. It also does not mean that I disagree with people working in the adult industry, I would be a hypocrite if I did. I feel that female sex workers are feminists in their own way. If men are willing to pay for a flash of your boobs or something like that, and you are willing to indulge them, what is the harm? A killer show, the entire series “Hate Thy Neighbour” is definitely up there with the best documentary shows Vice has produced in recent years. This particular episode gets a resounding 5/5 from me!
