York shrugs passively. He doesn’t really care that Tex works things out in her head; he did the exact same thing, and he was plenty sure that a good majority of other people did the exact same thing. The question itself was partially unnecessary, because Tex likely would’ve given him the ‘okay, it’s time to stop and go on foot from here’ signal eventually. “It’s fine,” he decides, and also slows down the bike a little. He’s just become conscious of the fact that he’s been going a little too fast for the past few minutes.
”Three sounds good. Wyoming’s a sneaky bastard, but he shouldn’t be able to pull much of anything when we’re that far away. We’ll go four if you want, but yeah— no riding it until we’re driving over top of him. Sounds good.” York wants to say more, to add something less relevant to the upcoming circumstances, but the roar of the engine and the wind seems to have cleared his mind. York adjusts his grip on the handlebars to get more comfortable, and focuses almost entirely on the road stretching in front of him.
She lets her head bob back and forth, debating over the issues at hand. "It's not so much a matter of Wyoming being a sneaky bastard," she says, "as him possibly having binoculars."
That was what she was really concerned about here. If they were spotted in advance, Wyoming and anyone he had with him - considering what she saw in her last encounter with him, he had a small troop of his own - then had a chance to prepare for the two freelancers. And if they were identified, it could be even worse, as he could plan specifically for York and Texas.
Tex nods, coming to a conclusion in her head. "Four miles," she says. "Just to be on the safe side.
You know, it sucks that this place has pretty much no cover whatso-fucking-ever."

Delta blinked slightly. If there was one he hadn’t expected to see back in the Zanzibar area, it was Agent Texas. He had no data on why she would come back to Zanzibar, and it disturbed him that he had none.
— Agent Texas, it is certainly a surprise to see you in this area once more. May I ask why you have shown up in this place once more?
Delta stopped, wondering for a moment if it was because of him that she came back before getting rid of that idea. None of them had known that he had survived the activation of the EMP. It was impossible for her to know.
Wasn’t it?
This is just retracing her steps.
She was always told that when you were looking for something you lost, the best way to do it was by retracing your steps.
This isn't quite the same situation.
As what Texas is looking for is her purpose and place in the world, now that she's come back to it. She's still not entirely sure how, she just knows that she willed herself back. Why that worked or-.... She was clueless on the rest of it.
And now she meandered looking through places and images from her past, hoping they'd somehow point her her way back into the present.
She doesn't expect to see the familiar AI's hologram there. She's seen almost no one thus far. The whole world looks like a ghost town. But Delta is a friendly surprise, and a welcomed change.
"It's...a surprise to see you too, Delta." The greetings pass without being said. And while the relief and hope she feels by his presence are hidden, out of the range of her voice, it is clear, at least, that this is a shock - that she hadn't expected this. "Um, as for why I'm here, it's...kind of complicated. I guess I'm looking for something," she says.
"What are you doing here?" Her question is not exactly worded right. It's 'how are you here' really. That's what she means. But saying so feels strange. Regardless, her tone says what her words do not.
The Mission
Locus had kept a wary eye on the new recruit as she mingled among the Federal Army. He made sure she never saw him once, just trying to ensure that he didn’t give her a proper reason for her to dislike him. Most of the time, she was asking soldiers simple questions. Where things were, who this was, more backstory to this war. Some soldiers responded with length, some others only gave a couple of words. Other times, she was finding the places she asked about. Wandering the camp, learning this base from the inside out. It was a bit admirable, she was dedicated to learning who she was fighting for.
He’s seen nothing suspicious or learned any more about her than he has the first time. She still has her defiant attitude, an attitude he could sense under the surface, and dedication. Locus didn’t let each other meet again until the day of the Scouting Mission. He wanted to learn what he could before it. So far, not much. He has realized that she has never removed her armor once or if he’s aware if she’s slept at all. Maybe she was like him? It was a curious, interesting thought. Dedicated to your armor, your duty, refusing to sleep until your body cried out for the rest. Try to tune it out. End up sleeping eventually anyways for the replenished energy.
It was now day of the scouting mission and he was waiting for her near the entrances. His definition of light was a sniper rifle clipped to his back just in case. He had sent a soldier to call her to the area. So, he was waiting. The soldiers around him seemed a bit antsy and nervous but Locus kept up his stiff and stoic posture, waiting. He changed it once she came into sight, loosening up a bit.
He was greeted with a questionable tone. Not quite serious, not quite snooty. A perfect blend, a blend left for him to analyze. “No.” He replied in a guttural tone, quick and clean. He did a hand motion which caught his soldier’s attentions and they lined up waiting for them to embark on the scouting mission.
"Have you been…enjoying…your stay here so far?" The sentence was formed and said oddly, off-key. Like he was grasping for conversation.
Well, heseemed cranky.
Tex observes the other freelancer, wondering at the source of his irritation. Mainly, wondering at whether she's to blame, but how could that be when she's only just gotten there?
She eyes him warily, optics squinted behind her visor. She still gets the feeling that she's at least got something to do with it. Texas is not apologetic, she's merely curious.
She hears him strain when he tries to make pleasantries. Maybe he was a worse liar in the morning. She shrugs and, after a second, mercifully gives the answer of, "It's a job."
Whether the answer was given out of mercy or just out of the sake of being vague, it was anyone's guess. If she were around friendlier company, she would have thrown in a quip. "Don't hurt yourself with that small talk there - it's got sharp edges."
As it is, she just remains quiet and takes to picking a spot to stand. The other soldiers follow her here, standing beside her assuming she's in some sort of formation.
Tex is quick to deny that, putting out her hand and making a pushing motion in the air. "This isn't the line - you're supposed to be over there."
A few seem to mutter quizzically, pondering at Tex's presence then. If she isn't there to take orders from Locus like she rest of them, what is she there for? "Don't worry about me," she assures (though, from her voice, it sounds more like she's telling them off). "I'm not even here."

The prospect of seeing Wyoming again? Well, that was an odd question to be asked, but no matter: at least it relevant to future events. Slowly dawning future events, at that; and speaking of future events, York had a few questions regarding exactly how they would go about dealing with Wyoming. He was an over-confident and a damnable coward, but he was a skilled coward; and one had to be careful around those.
"I guess so," York answers with an awkward shrug to match the awkwardly-voiced question. It seemed to him like one of the few things that Tex might want to actually take back rather than leave hanging out in the open air.
The scenery had been progressively changing as they were speaking. It was very, very subtle and because the city wasn’t too keen on adding in greenery to make it look nicer, a majority of what they’d passed had started out as a vast clump of buildings, turned into more roads on the side, and was now smaller buildings that fortunately allowed something to grow alongside them. To put it as blatantly as possible; they’d made progress.
"By the way. . " York starts off, and his voice briefly losing power over the roar of the engine. "Are we gonna stop driving at some point and look for him on-foot, or are we gonna do the exact opposite of that?" Finally, he gets that question out. It had been bugging him the entire ride— though it wasn’t a very prominent thought throughout it. Using the motorcycle up until the last second might give off some sort of surprise; but it sure as hell would be a lot louder and very possibly less preferable, but the exact opposite of that would be more time-consuming, however more stealthy. Either worked for him, really. "We’ve got plans revolving around how we’re going to kick his ass, but we haven’t really decided on how that’ll happen.”
"Oh yeah," Tex answers right away, having already foreseen this part in her head but having not said anything aloud. She really has to get used to working with someone, instead of on her own. Plans had to be discussed and shared. "We're not driving this puppy all the way to his doorstep."
Well thanks for keying York into that.
"I...kind of have a habit of just planning things out in my head." The admission comes with a sheepish edge. Most likely as close to an apology as she was going to come. It was there, in her tone.
She clears her throat - her voice is back to normal. "Was planning that we'd stop around...five miles from his location. Maybe three. We'll have an advantage on foot. This motorcycle's cool and all, but nothing about it really says 'stealth'."

ONTO REPLIES!
This is war
The Mission
She's had a good amount of time to explore the Feds' base of operations and she's fairly confident that she knows it well now - that she could walk it almost without thinking. Of course a chance like that does not arise. She doesn't let her guard down that much, not if he's to be in the same base that she is. And he is, of course, as he fights for the same side in this war - the other mercenary.
Tex knows well enough that he won't try to kill her. that's not what she's on-guard for. He probably doesn't want that - not yet, anyway. But she knows that he would look for any change in her disposition, wonder 'why' about it, try to read her that much more. Her goal was to be as unreadable as possible.
Admittedly, it's not that she's walking the halls in any sort of tense on-alert fashion, but it's not the meandering gait that she would, perhaps, wear around friends.
Oh, she knows his name by now as well. Locus. She learned it just the night prior when a grunt approached her and reminded her of the scouting mission she'd be accompanying the other merc on. She gets the feeling that this is a sort of slip of the tongue. It doesn't matter. She's not planning to really use the name anyway.
She'd dismissed the grunt with nothing more than a confirmation and a nod. And now, today was the day. She takes dual pistols with her, attaching them to her hips. She was told to bring as little as possible. It was only a scouting mission - this was more backup than anything else. She doubts she'll need even that. And if she does need something more, well...she was sure she'd get it somehow. Necessity is the mother of invention.
Tex meets him at the designated time on the dot. "Didn't miss anything, did I?" Is her tone snarky or serious? It skates on the edge of both.

She’ll think about the life that that sky holds. All the planets and the people on them. Gazing up and walking beneath the same sky that she looks to now.
