âThere is no âfaint humâ between us now. All there is, is noise. White noise. A megaphone blast. A nuclear siren. Maybe there will never be quiet. Maybe Iâm okay with that.â

@voidbat This is important
some cats are ten thousand percent not fucking around.
âTHAT IS UNNECESSARY!!!â HOLY FUCKIN SHIT I LOVE THAT LIL KITTY
I think all cats view each other as equals & this supports my theory
Way too many parents need to learn the difference between âa child being disrespectfulâ and âa human person expressing an opinion that differs from theirsâ
my mom had a nice technique for this. when iâd give her sass, sheâd say, âi donât speak rude, whatâs that in polite-person-ese?â
basically, sheâd encourage me to rephrase my opinion without the attitude. so âUGH, you NEVER let me do ANYTHING!â would (often after quite a bit of bitching and grumbling) turn into âit feels like every time i have a fun idea, you say no, and i just end up sitting around the house.â
and at that point we could troubleshoot like civilized people. she could explain that she didnât want me to go to jimmyâs sleepover because jimmyâs dad creeps her out, and i could suggest maybe i could have andy over instead, and she could say sure, why not call peter and stacy and brianna and have your own party, iâll pop some popcorn and rent a movie, and i could add what if we put up tents in the back yard and have a bonfire and roast marshmallows, and she could laugh and say donât push it.
I really like this technique because it addresses the OPs comment but recognizes that the two can coexist. The problem is often the child is expressing their opinion in a rude or disrespectful way. And as humans we automatically become adverse to opinions we feel are aggressive toward us.

Fun fact: There are a lot of rivers in the UK named âavonâ because the Romans arrived and asked the Celts what the rivers were called. The Celts answered âavon.âÂ
âAvonâ is just the Celtic word for river.
Fan Fact #2: When Spanish conquistadors landed in the YucatĂĄn peninsula, they asked the natives what their land was called and they responded âYucatĂĄnâ. In 2015, it was discovered that in those mesoamerican languages, âYucatĂĄnâ meant âI donât understand what you are sayingâ

I love etymology so much because so many words kind of happened by accident or by a native speaker trying to say âWTF are you saying?â
