Back to School and Growing Up
Summer is officially over, and somehow, just like that, all three of my girls are back in school!
My eldest, K., is now in the sixth grade, while my twin girls, R. and R., have officially started first grade. This year is a little different for the twins because, for the first time, they have different teachers and will be spending their school days apart from one another.
I'll admit, I was a little worried about how they would handle it. They've been together for everything, so the thought of separating them—even for a few hours each day—made me wonder how they would adjust. But, as usual, they surprised me. They've adapted just fine and have even pointed out that they still get to see each other at lunch and recess.
Maybe a few hours apart isn't such a bad thing after all. Perhaps having their own classrooms and experiences will give them an opportunity to develop a little more independence while still having each other nearby. Either way, I'm incredibly proud of my girls and excited to see what this school year brings for each of them.
And then there's my baby boy, K., who is already 6 months old! Where has the time gone?
At his latest checkup, he weighed 19.15 pounds and measured 28 inches long. His doctor is very pleased with his growth and development, and it makes my heart happy to know that he's growing into such a healthy, happy little guy.
We did receive some unexpected news at today's visit, though. For the first time, the doctor heard what he believes to be a benign heart murmur. Thankfully, he said our son's heart sounds strong and that he didn't hear anything otherwise abnormal. Because of his overall good health and development, he suspects that it's something he'll simply grow out of. For now, we'll continue to keep an eye on it and follow up at his 9-month well visit.
Of course, hearing the words "heart murmur" when you're talking about your baby is enough to make any parent pause, but I'm trying to focus on the reassuring things we've been told and take it one appointment at a time.
Six months with our little guy already, three girls growing and learning, and a brand-new school year ahead of us—life is certainly keeping us busy!
I'm proud of all four of my children and grateful for every stage, every milestone, and even the little things that don't always go according to plan. ❤️
