backstory
(Her older brother is Scott, for more details on their upbringing, see here.)
If most kids had it good, Rhiannon Grainger grew up having it extra good. At least that was what she wholeheartedly believed, until she knew better. She was one of those hyper smart, extra precocious toddlers who turned quickly morphed into a weary young girl ā gifted and talented programs had trouble keeping up with her. As a result, she always felt a touch disillusioned, even before her velcro shoes switched to lace ups.
Rhiannon hated the split custody arrangement their parents had post divorce, only really feeling like herself at mom's. Over at dad's she kept her head down, focused on studies and extracurriculars, and avoided Scott's annoying, loud parties at any cost. She threatened calling the cops in a fit of irritation on at least one occasion, but never went through with it.
While their mom's love was more or less equally distributed between them, her dad's favoritism towards her brother showed in ways both big and small. He was gifted with a Range Rover for his sixteenth, she an old Nissan Altima in less than stellar condition. Rhiannon did not let this wound her, far from it, the last thing she wanted was to be the favorite of a person like her dad. (and on that note, she only refers to him as a sperm donor current day).
She won a full ride to Wesleyan University on graduation, packed her bags and never looked back. Okay, so she came back to Cascade for major holidays, missing her mom and brother and wanting to see them on occasion. But mostly she was on campus or hopping the train to Grand Central Station for a weekend of New York debauchery. She'd always dreamed of something different than the West Coast could provide her, and for a time this life was perfect.
Upon graduating Wesleyan, she made a go of being a New Yorker for real. Kickstarting her filmmaker career there appealed to Rhiannon, but it was quite short lived. The city in some intangible way depressed her ā not to mention being exorbitantly expensive. Before long she was packing her suitcases and conceding defeat as she booked a flight back to California.
She's been back in Cascade for just over a year, working as a video editor at the Snow Bank Arena and living in a little rent-controlled walk up spot Downtown. She likes being close to (some) loved ones and friends back in Cascade, though she is plotting her future career moves, always.
headcanons
4/20 life baybee. though lately she is more about taking hits off her thc pen than packing her bong or a joint.
not athletic but permanently a skinny legend, #ThankUGenes. she went through the purgatory of high school PE and that was enough sport for her. the most workout she gets these days is sprinting to the bus late for work and putting some elbow grease into her weed grinder when it jams.
she has a v pleasant voice but do not ask her to sing. her last public performance was a winter concert in the 7th grade where she sang les champs-elysƩes.
also semi-skilled in violin but she gave it up before entering high school. regrets it, lowkey.
fully fluent in french thanks to lessons starting in the 6th grade and continuing on throughout her high school years, something she was passionate about. she spent an exchange semester at the notre dame international high school and an extra 3 summer months after that in paris too, footed by her dad, just about the one "nice" gesture she's had from him. to say she's a francophile is an understatement, the girl thinks in french before english sometimes.
has a photoless profile on IMDb thanks to the 4 working credits she racked up there: as wardrobe assistant and runner on three films and a tv show. one of these credits was marty supreme, yes, that marty supreme. no, it was not a great experience.
dreams of landing one of her screenplays on the hollywood black list, until then, she's scribbling her half-finished notes and half-baked stories into her notes app and final draft.
her music tastes lean into the eclectic, some days it's jay reatard and elliot smith, others days it's summer walker and ski mask the slump god. on occasion it's vashti bunyan and joni mitchell. guilty pleasures include 90's eurotrash and fatal bazooka.
plots/connections
grade school/childhood friends or enemies. self explanatory. a fun connection imo!
high school buddies. class of 2020, represent! if your character went to school in Cascade in or around these years, they could have known each other.
college buddies. this is a long shot, but if anybody went to Wesleyan U with her, I'd love that. alternately, any east coast university, maybe they crossed paths in New York or somewhere.
one night stand (0/3 - any gender). Ro is not in the habit for these so I'll cap this one at three, but she too is weak and human. bonus points if it was awkward, weird, or somehow comedic in nature.
roommates (0/2). roommates where she lives downtown in a walk-up on the 3rd or 4th floor (we can discussa all the details). bonus points if they are very different in personality, or age gap or some interesting distinction to Ro. i imagine an eclectic little trio who mostly gets along, though there are occasional clashes. extra bonus if your character has a pet as Ro has none! (my kingdom for a grumpy fluffy cat)
Phantoms plug. she's on first name basis with quite a few of the Phantoms. if your character is a superfan, she can serve as the introducer. gotta be something in it for her though!
other. i'm open to any and all ideas, feel free to hit up my ims xoxo!
