Eat Your Heart Out
i'm better off now in most ways, so i guess it doesn't matter very much in the long view, but sometimes it really sucked when i was at my poorest and most mentally ill and people would tell me how they taught my comic in their college course, or i'd find out the comic had been written about in some article or listicle.
somebody with a steady job and a degree talking about how Real my work was. in what way it was Real to them i couldn't tell you. at first i was flattered, until i realized that the work was Realer than me and i was ultimately disposable.
sometimes i feel like a lot of the people who (at one time or another) championed my work only valued it as a signal of ingroup knowledge and hipness. "isn't it great that i'm smart and sensitive and logged-on enough to get something out of this Messy Queer Art by a 20something kid who can barely draw?" i don't like and have never liked being a sideshow act for more respectable queers and self-consciously ~accepting~ cishet people.
i've been lucky in many respects and i can probably never be grateful enough for the life i have now, which i have done little to nothing to earn. but on the other hand, FUCK YOU PAY ME
i'm in such an ideological bubble on tumblr i sometimes get bowled over reading the replies on a post and seeing how many ppl on here uncritically parrot Victims Of Communism type stuff, often paired with like "naive americans love to romanticize communism but it was actually HORRIBLE".
usually coming from ppl who themselves have never lived anywhere but the united states and just uncritically bought into whatever narrative they got spoonfed by relatives (when those relatives/their ancestors may have been run out of town by communists for good reason).
i'm absolutely not as historically informed or politically engaged as i should be, but i do forget sometimes how many ppl are just completely off in la la land. they think of their own comfort as paramount and fear and revile anything they imagine might disrupt it, but accept as natural and inevitable the vast and constant suffering of the disenfranchised. and somehow ppl like this still manage to think of themselves as like, arch-liberal ethical humanists.

finally continued reading crow cillers ...my faves by far
I think even being excruciatingly aware of cishetero patriarchy does not free some trans men of a certain reverence for the inner experience of the cis man which I think is a real shame because there really is no mystique there.......I promise they do not have anything you do not have
grateful im not one of those trans ppl who still wants kids bc im also unrelatedly infertile and politically opposed to most kinds of adoption

kind of curious about phallo but i worry that my bladder/pelvic floor problems would make that a bad idea. but cursory research would indicate that it's possible
