Hindsight is 2020
It's Sunday, May 31st 2020. Reflect on everything that has happened just in the last few months. Fires, floods, pandemic, police murdering a black man for no reason yet again, protests over the "right" to not wear a mask (aiding in the virus' spread), potential world war, tweeting inflammatory threats, posting opinions as fact, continents on fire, cities flooding...the list goes on. We have an opportunity to change. We have always had the opportunity to put lives above economy, above politics, above every unjust system we have built. But our fear & helplessness were, & are still, being used to manipulate us. Political figures prey on our fear. That fear, time & again, has been utilized to fuel political agendas, to fuel anger, & ultimately to fuel hatred & the destruction of people for the profit of others. Hindsight is 2020. This is the year we should look back on our collective & individual history. Hindsight is 2020. Vote for the political figures that recognize the systemic issues that so desperately need to be changed. Hindsight is 2020. We need to figure out how to SAVE lives, not commit murder, not politicize a virus. Hindsight is 2020 & all of the choices, the violence in our past (distant & recent) is coming back to blow up in our faces for good reason. Hindsight is 2020 & we need to learn from our past to have a better future. Hindsight is 2020 & we NEED to do better & be better. We need to realize that in order to live in a world that is safe for our children, black people, brown people, women, LGBT communities, ALL non white lives- we need to stop spreading & fueling the fear, hate, & anger that has polarized us & brutalized entire communities. Hindsight is 2020 & our governments have failed us, our communities have failed us, & we are failing each other again. Hindsight is 2020 & what have we learned? The violence, the murder, the exploitation still happens every single day. We are sublimated through politics, corporations, media (even the news is opinionated) & we fuel their profit. We rapidly normalize toxicity. We arrest the white men that shoot up schools & malls - not kill them in the street...but what if they were non white? Oh right- politics tells us it's terrorism. Hindsight is 2020 & I've learned that so-called "civilized" peoples have normalized brutality, racist/sexist/homophobic speech, normalized murder, normalized the polarization of entire communities, normalized destruction of ecosystems/populations/cultures, & systemic racism. Fuck civility. Hindsight is 2020 & yet we are still killing each other. Hindsight is 2020 & I have learned that nothing has changed except the names of the political figureheads that profit off of grief, pain, murder, & chaos. Hindsight is 2020 & we are still letting figureheads fuel our fear so it becomes anger & actionable hatred. There's still a pandemic going on but injustice & systemic racism are working hand in hand to continuously put black lives at risk. This is not a plea to stop protesting. This is a plea to STAY SAFE (wear a mask & try to maintain distance) so no more black lives are lost. Hindsight is 2020...what have you learned?
