I absolutely love this song, and I know it’s sung by Allen’s voice actor but it always sounded high pitched compared to how his voice is portrayed (bc his voice actor is a woman), so out of curiosity I changed the pitch by -1.6 semitones to make it sound more like he does in the show.

One of the really fucked up things about Allen is how he is ready to tear muscles and break bones, force himself to keep smiling even through his pain, break his heart for others and cry for them…

But when he is the one to experience loss and pain and betrayal

He just takes it with a soft “oh” and dry eyes.

This happens because he suppresses his own feelings and emotions to an inhuman degree. He rarely expresses geniune feelings, even then only anger and annoyance break throug his control with occasional sorrow that he doesn’t like to show people.  He lies that he is alright even when he’s not because he doesn’t want to be a “burden”. 

People do sometimes need to put a lid on their emotions, but as Allen never gave himself place to process them, he had denied himself for so long that he no longer knows how to healthily process emotions. This is another form of self-punishment. He thinks he doesn’t deserve to feel happy or sad or anything at all. Not after the horrible sin he committed.  

On the other hand, people cannot live on without feelings anything at all, without stimuli you don’t do anything, without purpose you’re lost. So while Allen forgets about his own feelings he makes other people’s feelings his own and desperately wants to fix things that are simply out of his reach, simply cannot because they aren’t his issues to solve. 

He consantly prioritizes other people’s emotional needs over his own livelihood, uncaring of the consequences and risks, because it’s just him, not something important.
