Hanukkah story #8! This is the long one, so I saved it for last!

This particular story came from an amazing genetics paper that I saw linked on Tumblr many many years ago, where a fangirl came up with a plausible explanation for the mechanisms of wizarding inheritance, and my brain immediately grabbed onto this and ran with it, only it stopped running a short way from the end and got stuck until Lim helped me work it out of the mire!

Hanukkah story #6!

So I found the Hobbit movies very unsatisfying, and in particular the Tauriel/Legolas/Kili "love triangle" was just sort of baffling, and I also didn't like (even though I find it more comprehensible) the use of Gimli as comic relief in the LOTR films. Those dissatisfactions are where this little story came from, trying to make them all work with my own inner sense of these characters and the world.

Hanukkah story #4!

This is a bit of an odd story, because I wrote it to noodle some ideas that I ended up using in less cracktastic ways for A Man of Honor instead, and the Robb in this story isn't really the Robb in canon, he's much more like the Robb at the end of The Pack Survives, after ten years of life and experience.

Lim once described Robb to me as a half-open flower: caught forever in that moment of becoming, before we can really see who he's going to be--and that feels very true to me as the thing that interests me about the character, all the different paths he could have followed. That's what almost all of the Robb stories I've done are exploring.

But this one is really just about him messing with Jaime Lannister. 😂

More Joy Day is BACK

What's More Joy Day? In short it’s this:

Every year since 2008, in the interest of spreading more joy, I’ve proposed that on a designated day in early January we each engage in one act, either online or physical space (or both!), which brings joy to another person, in the hopes that that person will spread that joy further, and exponentially onward.

This act can be as simple as leaving a comment on a fanwork to as complicated as planting a tree or flower in someone’s honor and sharing a photo of it and why you chose that person. If you want the longer version (and more suggestions) you can check out this post from 2024 which provides both.

The 19th annual More Joy Day is on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

I haven't been posting fic lately because I'm really wrapped up in a massive multi-volume pro project and also another very different kind of sekrit project (with her and her and her 👀). But that makes me a bit sad--I want to come to the potluck, even if I immediately conk out on the pile of coats in the back room. So for Hanukkah this year, I've dug through my fic folders and turned up a bunch of stories that were close enough to done that I could polish them off, and I'll be posting one for each night. Bringing them into the light!

(I was going to start posting yesterday night but then I got sick and spent the weekend asleep on the couch instead. But it's still the first DAY of Hanukkah so it totally counts as on time? ;_;)

These are all quite short except the very last one. So I offer them just as little gifts, to hopefully bring a bit of light into your season and my own, no matter the dark outside. Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate. <3
