Give it ten days into the trip and he was regretting it. There really wasn’t all that much to do anymore. He’d been sunbathing. He’d gone swimming in the pool. He’d read a dozen books and played cards too many times. Not to mention the weather was slowly getting worse and worse. They seemed to have hit a cold weather front, it bringing harsh showers of unwanted raining, it pushing passengers to stay inside. It’d even gotten to the point where the ship was forced to go a little off-route, due to the strong waves in the sea.
Eventually they had to make an emergency stop at the closest land they could get to, which happened to be a tiny island in the middle of nowhere. It was a bit of a messy process, what with the struggle for control. The reckless landing meant that the large boat ended up stuck and wedged into the sand, tilted a little to the side, though it was still in the shallow waters. It resulted in a little denting to the structure.
Passengers were advised to stay on board while the captain called for help, but they could visit the island if they wanted. Baekhyun personally didn’t see the appeal. Surely it wouldn’t be safe.
But after the first night he was already bored again. There was even less around to do, what with various attractions on the ship being shut down. It was then that he saw the back of a woman heading towards one of the exits.
"Excuse me, Miss—" he started, hand reaching out. "It.. It could be dangerous out there."
The woman turned around and Baekhyun could have sworn that he saw a mischievous twinkle in her eyes. “Oh, come on. Where’s your sense of adventure?!” Her smile matched that strange twinkling, but it wasn’t the kind to put someone off. “It’s not as dangerous as they said.” She shrugged and stepped towards the exit, not giving another glance behind her.
It felt like Baekhyun had no choice but to follow. Worry would eat at him if he didn’t.
"Are you coming with?" Came the voice in front of him. It was light and carefree, as if exploring was something that the young lady did every day. In comparison, Baekhyun felt too sheltered
A leap of faith wouldn’t be too bad, would it?
"Have you.. Have you done this before?" he asked, peering out through the door.
"Hm.. Enough." She laughed and waited no longer to jump down the small 2 ft gap. She turned back to check whether Baekhyun was going to really join her or not. "It’s not scary," she murmured with a smile, lifting her hand to hold out to him. "If we’re stuck here for who-knows-how-long, then we may as well make the best of it."
The lady had a point.
”..Yeah.” Baekhyun placed his hand in hers, only now willing to let life take him wherever. “Yeah, maybe you’re right..”
