Like Nina Lekhi, the modern woman of today is creative and unconventional. Meet her anywhere and she will impress you with her good deal of intellectual playfulness whether it is at work, with family or friends.She is constantly manipulating her ideas and always reasons with herself saying, ‘How would this look otherwise?’, or ‘What if we alter this?’ Her willingness to change, high-spirited nature, and unique approach towards life is a quality you should look up to and by doing so you too will work towards a different and better future. Beauties with Talents @PrincessIndia Beauty Pageant!

It is a rare scene where everyone gets equal opportunity to showcase their talent. On Women’s Day, fashion met reality without any barriers @PrincessIndia – a beauty pageant organized in Mumbai for visually impaired girls. A one-of-a-kind event wherein sixteen beautiful girls were provided a platform to walk the ramp, showcase their talent, intellect, and speak about their life’s ambitions in the presence of celebrities and eminent personalities like @JohnAbraham & @SubhashGhai and more. This unique event which was held for the first time truly instilled in the minds of all that everyone is beautiful, and beauty is much more than just the looks. It was a unique way to celebrate unconventional beauty standards.

The event was organized by Mr Samir Mansuri, Chairman of the NGO Blind’s Dream, who is himself blind by birth. What’s amazing is how he has dedicated a major part of his earnings to fulfill the dreams of people without sight and also has been contributing to various charitable activities like “Princess India” for the Blind to realize their dreams. He flew down 42 visually impaired girls to Mumbai to fulfill their dream of flying, visiting Esselworld and a meet-up with Bollywood actor @VarunDhavan. Hats off to that!

The girls who had already accomplished so much were extremely elated and overwhelmed by the opportunity that was given to them to showcase their talents. The show was a reminder that life is a gift given to all, cherish it and make your mark. And the next time you complain about life, these girls will be a motivation for you to be thankful and happy. It was great to witness the enthusiasm and vigor to do something extraordinary and accomplish more in life. They were thankful for everyone who believed in them and hoped that their ventures could be an encouragement for others like them.

Dressed in beautiful gowns and accessories, the girls walked down the ramp showcasing their skills and talents with grace and style. Some of them were beautiful dancers while some mellifluous singers, every girl’s confidence on stage and smile not only thrilled the audience, but also boosted their morale to never give up, no matter what. The girls set a remarkable example for all to be ambitious and go after your dreams, even when the going gets tough. Fab Show!

Each girl walked the ramp with a woman achiever. Among the different women achievers like Sapna Jaswani, the chairperson of ‘We Care’ for Thalassemia, @AchalaSachdev, @Sapna Bhavnani, and others, @NinaLekhi who is Baggit’s MD & Chief Design Curator, was also present. She was ecstatic to be a part of the event and provided her support to the girls to achieve their dreams. A proud moment for her

After a series of elimination rounds and semi-finals, the grand finale was exciting with three girls crowned as winners. We wish the winners a hearty congratulation and salute all the girls who were part of the beauty pageant. They truly are an inspiration to everyone. Baggit is part of Princess India- a very Special Beauty Pageant!

A unique and very special beauty event is being held for the first time in the world and Baggit will be a part of this event ‘Princess India 2016-17’- Beauty Pageant for Visually Impaired girls is to be held on 8th March.

True beauty is not just your outward beauty but a permutation combination of different qualities, your confidence, loyalty, kindness; it is your nature and personality that can shine through you. Typically, when we speak of beauty, the thought that arise in one’s minds would possibly be the shape, color, features or anything that pleases the aesthetic sense. Beauty is all about representing your positivity, your dreams and being a role model for everyone around you.

Ever since we were children, we were more concerned about our appearance and people’s opinion about the way we looked, and till today our looks matter so much. Most of us might relate to this. But the truth is we will not always be able to look our best every day. Our looks will fade eventually. It is the choice that we have to make to either let go of our thoughts or ponder over it and feel miserable. We need to believe that everyone is unique and each one of us is created to shine bright, set examples for others and see the world change for the better.

We need to be who we are; we need to be our true selves. We need to accept our positives and our flaws too, and must do our best to live original. Because that’s what matters! The beauty that comes from applying mascara, a little foundation and a smear of lipstick might last a while, but true beauty comes from within. On the occasion of Women’s Day, the NGO Blind Dreams is organizing Princess India – a beauty pageant to celebrate the beauty and talents of visually impaired girls this year. Fashion handbag and accessory brand, Baggit will be part of the show and support the 16 girls who will showcase their talent, intellect as they walk the ramp. Nina Lekhi, MD and Chief Design Curator of Baggit has always been a believer of enhancing beauty inside & outside and this has always been the founding philosophy of her company, Baggit.

The event will be conducted to boost every girl’s morale and provide them a platform to show off their true beauty. This beauty show is one way to tell the world that one must not think too little of themselves and everyone is beautiful! Know what it’s like to be a Handbag!

Being a girl’s best companion has its pros and cons, ask me about it! I am a lovely pastel colored sling bag manufactured in India and at the Baggit factory. Keeping in mind the latest trends and the season, the designers at Baggit have highlighted me in a pastel rose pink shade, and designed me in a unique pattern and silhouette, giving me a colorful ease and apt to don in the summers. I was kept on display for sale at the Baggit brand store in Bandra. Baggit is one of the most loved handbags and accessories brand in India and I am so proud to be part of this outlet and be displayed amongst all the trendy and stylish bags, wallets, belts, hats for different occasions and looks. My sensual, calm and serene tone brings out the understated luxury of pastels beautifully which caught the fancy of many who have entered the store.

One day Mrs. Tandon, a lady in a saree came in looking for a bag for daily purpose. She tried me, but honestly, I did not suit her personality, although she kept praising my looks. Thankfully, the store staff explained to her I was perfect for a casual day out and a tote bag is what she needed to look for. Phew!

The staffs at the store always manage to amaze me with their knowledge and secretive nature. Secretive because, every month I am introduced to a new collection of my fellow mates in innovative designs and colours, something I look forward to.

Few hours later, another young girl, Mira entered the store with her friends, took a fancy to me, and tried me on before the mirror. Such a pretty colour, and so spacious, she spoke to her friends. As she contemplated for five minutes and pursued the opinions of her friends, she agreed to pick me up. I matched her casual attire and suited her body frame well. She was a pretty young girl and I was so happy to rest on her shoulders.

She had come to the store specifically looking for a bag that she could carry to college and that will match her youthful personality. I had a wonderful opportunity to travel in her company. She took me to college early in the morning, to the classroom, to the cafeteria, the movies and café shops in the city. It has been a fabulous adventure! With all her books inside me, and her miniature essentials in the zipper slots, she always left for college well-equipped and in style. In her college, with girls and boys in their best attires and accessories, they were youngsters trying to uplift their fashion quotient every day. With me on the shoulders, she tried her hands at participating in different college events and won so many prizes in all. I am so proud to be part of it all!

We then headed to her friend’s house for a quick study session, where I had a glimpse of all the hard work and a little play as well. I have been with Mira since a month and perfectly fine. She takes utmost care of me referring to the wash and care instructions, which keep me newer by the day. But with the variety of bags she possesses, and when it’s time for her to party or head to the grocery store, she leaves me aside and picks up a clutch or a mini sling bag from her closet to carry. Still Humming the Tunes of Her Favorite Songs

It is true, “Music is love, and love is music”.

She was the creative girl who was always consumed in her music every time she painted at college. He was the notorious kind spending time with his rowdy friends. Each time he saw her enter the classroom smiling, and earphones plugged in her ears, drowned in her music, his heart sank, thinking, “What kind of music does she listen to that inspires her and gets her so engrossed?” She made him get inquisitive every day.

It was January. She was preparing for her art examination that was to be scheduled later in the month. He wanted to get in touch with her to know more about her and her paintings, and most of all her song playlist. He knew music was a beautiful way to build a connection with her.

Immediately to her apartment came his letter with sweet wordings expressing his liking for her and a phone number to call.

They had their first date in a coffee shop. Returning to her apartment, they sat on the swing and talked together about their interests and her music of course. Eager to listen to her songs, she took out her phone and the earphones that were entangled. As she struggled to detangle, he patiently waited for the melodies to sink in his mind. Her playlist did not fail to amaze him and instant exchange of songs happened in no time.

It was the end of January, and the day of her art examination arrived. Each night, a phone call came in from him to greet her. They met often and enjoyed their time together every time they met.

It was on Valentine’s Day, he decided to take her to the beach and express his love. She was presented a well-wrapped box out of which came out an adorable gift- a heart-shaped earphone holder with a keychain of his initial attached to it, just what she needed and something that would remind her of him. A thoughtful gift coming from him impressed her! That evening, both realized that music got them closer and continues to keep their bond stronger…

‘Bag It All’ by Nina Lekhi

In a pair of comfy trousers, a white top, a blue blazer, and a #slingbag from her very own ‘Rusted Revolution’ collection on her shoulder, Nina Lekhi looked flawless and her vibrant personality at the launch of her book #BagItAll at Sophia College stole everyone’s attention. Nina Lekhi is MD and Chief Design Curator at Baggit who started making and selling ‘bags with attitude’ as an 18-year-old student at Sophia Polytechnic College and today has made the brand a successful one. An excited Nina spoke a little about her journey as an entrepreneur and design curator, work-life balance and an encouraging message to all the passionate youth who are keen on running a business and becoming future entrepreneurs.

From Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat it’ to ‘Baggit’

Nina Lekhi mentioned that it was her curious and questioning mind that led her to initiate the Baggit journey. It all began with her doing a screen printing class and finding out that there was a dearth of graphic bags and fun bags in the market. This led her to make her first few bags which she would show it to her friends and family, and thankfully her parents were very supportive. Later she started being on the shop floor, selling and feeling the pulse. At this stage, she learnt a lot of important lessons and gained customer insights on the shop floor. That is when she started off with designing bags full-fledged and Baggit eventually started. 

Strong values is a lighthouse for a design curator

Baggit is a brand that caters to the lifestyle and fashion needs of the modern Indian women. She spoke of how her designs and commitment to not using leather have been appreciated and bought by the Indian woman of all age groups, which gave her the impetus at the start and even today to provide the best. Her belief in beauty without cruelty has led her to use materials that are non-leather, #recyclable and environmental friendly. Also, there is always a mix of fashion and functionality in the designs which is the main USP. Life’s a balancing Act

According to Nina Lekhi, “The key to a healthy, happy and successful life is finding a #balance between your personal and professional life.” She follows a four-day work week that helps her stay more focused on her work objectives. The other three days she spends at the Gurukulam in Pune, she and her husband have adopted. She engages in football matches with the children or goes on long treks or cycles down the mountain trails to distress herself. And whether she is at work or at the Gurukulam, she makes it a point to devote some time to herself. Sometimes, she spends a couple of hours at the gym after a hectic day at work and makes it a point to go cycling and swimming too, as it gives her immense satisfaction and happiness within. 

Great risks means great achievements

True entrepreneurship is never being satisfied with achieving just one goal, says Nina Lekhi. The challenge is to raise the bar and to achieve new goals. Her advice to the youth is “Don’t play safe, start taking risks as it will help you explore new dimensions.” Taking risks is a part and parcel of being an entrepreneur. Do not get bogged down by the opinions of others, learn from your mistakes and imbibe them. Be punctual and learn to balance work life and personal life seamlessly. Health cannot wait for tomorrow, keep yourself fit and healthy. Find a kind of sport or activity that keeps you on top of your game. She personally follows this mantra, “travel more & more!”
