A little bittersweet
I had a bit of back pain not too long ago. I went to urgent care and had some x-rays taken and the technician, in all their kindness, asks if there’s any chance that I’m pregnant. For a few seconds I don’t know what to say.
“No, but maybe one day in twenty years when the technology’s available.”
“No, but thank you for thinking that’s something that could happen to me.”
“No, we just don’t have the time, money, resources, biological abilities, etc.”
“No, not in this world we live in.”
For a few seconds the world stands still, I pass, this should be nice, this should feel nice, and it did. It doesn’t make me less of a woman for not being able to do that, there’s plenty of cis women who can’t. I know this, and yet there’s still part of me that wishes that a question like that shouldn’t be so hard to answer. That I could leave it at “No” and not feel like it’s some massive mountain I can look at from where I’m standing, but never climb.
Anyway, what I’m trying to say is it’s a little bittersweet. The back pain’s almost gone, but it’s been two weeks and I’m still thinking about the X-ray tech.
This thread is incredibly important to read.
It is also extremely difficult to read. I don't know if I need to point this out, but the document itself is obviously full of bigotry so please take care of yourself if you choose to read it. Antisemitic phrases like "cultural marxism" and "global elites" appear before the document even really gets rolling, and are mixed in with transphobia, racism, and more.
If you want a taste of how this document starts in the first main section about "The Family", here is a taste:
"This starts with deleting the terms sexual orientation and gender identity (“SOGI”), diversity, equity, and inclusion (“DEI”), gender, gender equality, gender equity, gender awareness, gender-sensitive, abortion, reproductive health, reproductive rights, and any other term used to deprive Americans of their First Amendment rights out of every federal rule, agency regulation, contract, grant, regulation, and piece of legislation that exists."
It is all bad. ALL of this document is bad, and dangerous, and threatens the lives and the safety of everyone living in this country.
Karma Chameleon, but it’s Randall from Monster’s Inc. getting bonked on the head to the beat of AJR’s Karma
Had a dream Nimona was sent to the 1920s to be a crime solving gorilla. Her partner was a loose cannon cop who liked jumping to conclusions. Together they had to find out who kidnapped one of the voice actors for The Talented Escapades of Kip Caper, a popular radio show. One of the main suspects was Stephen Colbert. There was a musical number on a red carpet premier.
I wrote a YA virtual reality isekai with a transfem protagonist, a sapphic romance subplot, and tons of non-binary representation. I got into writing to tell stories that were gay as hell, and I’m going to keep writing to do that.

brown eyed girl.........
the names for her that I like:
Jadzia, based off the character from stark trek DS9 (forgive me I only know star trek through osmosis) that has lived multiple lifetimes as many genders and most characters knew her previously as a man but now know her as a woman. She’s commonly regarded as a good allegory for transness. She’s allegedly cracked a lot of eggs. Comic Frontier is already a parody of DS9 so it’d make sense if a character like her was in Cosmic Frontier too.
Terry, the name of Jadzia’s actress, in case “Jadzia” is too on the nose
Bailey, which comes from Captain O’Bailey, the character from Cosmic Frontier that Hunter really resonated with

Now that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and The White House have finalized new nondiscrimination provisions under Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, it is more important than ever to know your rights and what to do if you face discrimination.
To better explain what these protections mean, Out2Enroll partnered with trans comic artist, Dylan Edwards, on a series of illustrated discrimination situations.

Shinjuku Boys (1995). Tatsu, a transgender man, jokes with his barber about his changing appearance, and his newly masculine features.
TRANSCRIPT:
BARBER: So you go regularly to the hospital for your hormone injection? TATSU: [nods] BARBER: Does it hurt? TATSU: Not at all. BARBER: You have more facial hair. It must be the hormones. You’ll get a moustache soon. TATSU: I’ll look distinguished! They’ve made quite the difference. I never thought I’d change so much. Most customers say I’m like a man. BARBER: Really? TATSU: [laughing] They say, “You look like a man. You’re not cute.” BARBER: [laughs]
END TRANSCRIPT.
Let’s go over some things, shall we?
Jenny was originally designed to be a shape-shifting superhero; her “pigtails” are rocket thrusters, and her entire body can morph and shift to create weapons. Given her standard appearance is more to look like a humanoid girl, it seems reasonable that that’s an appearance she chose, rather than her default, especially because we know she can modify her appearance however she likes, albeit restricted to her two base colors unless she gets a new paint-job.
Though her mother learns to be more supportive of her later on, Jenny was originally confined to house arrest save for doing her job, supposedly because the world around her wouldn’t accept her.
She is canonically six-foot-six, which is rather tall, though it seems the average height of humanity has also gone up. So it’s not too uncommon for other men to be taller than her, but she’s also taller than most people. She has so far only dated other men who are taller than her.
She gains two different disguises for looking human. The first one doesn’t pass at all, while the second passing one convinces her to behave like a normal human girl, whispering into her ear to not only look, but behave like a “normal” girl, even if it’s not in her best interests.
It’s evidently quite common for androids to be made from different base personality points- Kenny, a boy she dated for a little while, was a re-purposed dog robot, and still carried over some of his dog traits.
The two most popular girls in school specifically have it out for her, because she’s a robot “pretending” to be a girl.
Jenny is allowed to play in her high school’s male football team.
Don’t forget this scene:
I’d suspected Jenny was trans coded for a long time, but this scene was what had me 100% convinced.
Prior to this episode Jenny had always treated Ms. Wakeman as her mother, always referring to her as “mom/mother”; which caused Wakeman to be mocked by her peers. Ms. Wakeman was typically cold towards Jenny, always referring to her as XJ9 (essentially Jenny’s deadname) and usually treating her as nothing more than a defence droid. But in this scene Ms. Wakeman is actually seeing Jenny in danger and rushes to protect her, finally calling her “my daughter” for the first time. As soon as she does, the pure joy and amazement in Jenny’s voice just makes my heart swell.
This show is so incredible and SO ahead of it’s time.
Worth noting that the creator of the show acknowledged this, basically saying “We didn’t intend for Jenny to be trans coded, but we’re ecstatic that trans people are finding comfort in her. Just because we didn’t intend the subtext doesn’t mean it’s not there.” Very cool and way the hell better than Hartman handles shit like this.
thinking about transgender pikachu 🥺
