A beginner’s guide to hiking: step 1: Find trail step 2: Prance
two and a half years later, still following her own advice
He a good egg 🐶❤!
taking a quick poll. does your dog sleep in your bed, on the floor, or in a crate/enclosure?
and are they a pet, sport, or working dog?
Aang and Azula are both pets. Aang sleeps in the bed and Azula sleeps on the floor by choice
Ranger and Zella sleep in their own doggie beds on the floor. They each have their own preferred side of the bed. Occssionally, after the husband has gotten out of bed if it’s a day I can sleep in or if I lay down for a nap, they may snooze with me up on the bed. Both are purely pets.
Lara- on the floor somewhere downstairs , sometimes on my couch , whatever she wants. I wish she’d sleep on my bed (she occasionally does) but it’s too hot. She’s a pet , 6 years old. She slept in her crate for the first year or two.
Jarvan - sleeps in his crate and very occasionally I will baby gate him in my bathroom (right by my bed ). Sport dog , 3 years old.
Envoy sleeps in his crate because he is a wee baby at 14 weeks old. He is my pet/show prospect.
Cadvan sleeps in my bed.
He originally slept in his crate in my bedroom (and still does when we’re away), but he would often wake up 3-5am and be unable to settle unless I took him to the loo. One time when I didn’t have the spoons I let him join me in bed after a middle of the night loo trip, and then it gradually just morphed into him sleeping there from bedtime. He never wakes up needing the loo before getting up time now.
I am very glad that he is wire-haired and thus only minimally sheds.
Cad does sports, but the sports we do emphasise that the dog as a pet comes first before the sport (welfare before ambitions).
Reblogging to say that Envoy now sleeps in bed with us. He was not crating well and I was working 60+ hours weeks so we caved so I could sleep. He is actually very good in bed and sleeps through the whole night.
Mallow sleeps in a crate because otherwise she just keeps giving herself activities/projects all night and usually these “activities” are loud and destructive. She is a working dog.
Fizz sleeps in bed or on the floor depending on how hot it is in bed. He’s a pet.
Baldr sleeps in my bed in winter, on the floor during summer. He would sleep in his crate, but it doesn't fit in my bedroom and I lock himself there with me bc of my housemates. He is a sport dog, but not a very serious one right now hahaha

Help @saluki people
Trying to help a friend here! Tagging some of you because I know you have experience with the breed but please don’t feel forced to reply: @houndtroglodytes @luciathesaluki @spanishmal @mischiefdogloki
We were wondering about how sighthound-y they are? In terms of where do they fall in the chill and shyness spectrum? I know sighthounds aren’t velcro dogs, but galgos for example are well known for how chill and cuddly they are! Also, we would love to know how they compare to other sighthound breeds like zois, personality wise? Since the breed is not super wide spread it’s hard to get hands on info about them, so basically… sum up salukis for us please hahaha
Sorry, I’ve only just seen this.
I have only had the one, so my comments are based predominantly off my experiences with just her and what I’ve heard from others. My saluki is affectionate, but on her own terms. She’ll often quietly enjoy my company, seemingly ignoring me, but will follow me if I try to go anywhere. Most saluki people I know describe them as ‘cat-like’, which is pretty accurate from my experience. My girl can be extremely cuddly and hyper affectionate to the people in her ‘circle’, but is not generally interested in meeting people out and about. I find salukis to be less laidback than borzoi. They have more energy, and I find them less willing to please. My saluki is very trainable and intelligent, but whether she does as she’s told depends very much on what’s in it for her! As with other sighthounds, there’s a LOT of prey drive going on there, so that’s something to be aware of too.
Socialisation is so important with this breed as they are extremely sensitive. They can be shy or reactive otherwise. Bella can be both of these things, which can be trying, but that sensitivity also makes her very much in tune to the emotions of those around her. If she hears someone crying, she’ll run to them for a cuddle and a lick. I suffer from anxiety, and she had a great way of calming me when I would have panic attacks. On the other side of the coin, though, she will become very stressed if there is excessive tension or fighting within the household. Our family is quiet and easy-going, so we’re a good fit. With a saluki, you need a lot of patience and a good sense of humour, otherwise their antics will drive you around the bend! If you’re up for a bit of naughtiness and a dog who’s more akin to a cat in many ways, you might just enjoy having a saluki in your life.
Spent a few sunrises with this big sweetie, named Bernie, on Harbour Island, Tampa.
Harbour Island is a beautiful residential district in the bay area and one of my favorite places to sit and watch all the private boats leave and return. There are next to no businesses on the small island and it makes for a very peaceful experience, the most you are going to come across is other people and their dogs.
