Never mind the fact that her engagement was false. That was not the point, and really, she had no problem sharing that. Maybe she’d wanted to keep it from Erica, simply because she didn’t care to hear the other woman’s opinion on the matter, but that didn’t mean she had a problem with her knowing. No, what bothered Navi was the idea that anyone thought she would grovel. About anything. She was as proud as she was vain, down to her core. “I am not groveling for anyone’s approval. Least of all my family’s. I am simply doing what must be done for the good of Maldonia.” The words came out almost stale, tasting fake in her mouth after so long explicitly not caring about that very issue. “I am a princess, no? And as princess, I must marry to make a good match. You are familiar with the issue, I believe.”
“Yeah, well, it doesn’t really matter if I’m familiar with the issue or not, now does it? I don’t play around with love. I don’t lead people on, I’m not frivolous with my feelings, and I’m honest about how I feel and who I feel it for. Not something you’re all that familiar with, if I recall.”
She could dig deeper, but was it really worth it? The girl had wasted no time hitting the button she knew would hurt Erica, and it really only served to make her not want to deal with her presently.
“You realize how serious a marriage is right? It’s not like finding some guy to spend the night with and drop in the morning. It’s meant to last forever, and a breakup will do far more damage to your kingdoms than just not marrying until you find the one. I hope you’re prepared for the consequences of marrying someone you don’t actually love.”
