Minor Interference--a ROTTMNT au where the turtles accept Draxum's offer of training, secretly planning to use the opportunity just to mess with him. Chaos and shenanigans ensue. But they've never been very good at sticking with plans, have they? (main tag, memes tag, lore tag)
Get Babied, Idiots--Draxum and Mikey attempt to take care of baby versions of the other three turtles. Originally a subplot of Minor Interference, now its own fic. (original concepts, main tag)
My Circus, My Turtles--a Draxum raises the turtle au. More or less focused on the turtles going through school. (main tag)
Body Horror Baby--post movie, Donnie accidentally makes himself a science baby. They're Krang. This will cause no issues whatsoever I'm sure. (main tag)
Other AUs:
Not Quite Hidden--Splinter decides to remain in the Hidden City to raise the turtles, hoping that his enemies won't find him. He and Draxum run into each other in a grocery store. (Poll based written story, original post, part 1)
I'm Not Dead Yet--Raphael Hamato, 28 years old, wakes up over a decade in the past, well before the Kraang invasion that killed him even begins. The catch? He doesn't know he died.
Giant Mutant Toddler Turtles--Draxum successfully mutated and kept all the turtles, but they don't know how to person yet. Featuring adult-sized turtles who can't walk on two legs or open doors.
Hello! I was reading one of your reposts (April that compensate turtles' lack of affection and being considered gross by most humans) and it made me think about some scenes where the show (ex. When Mikey in the s1 ep13-15 first considered Quarry and the others as monsters and Donnie calls him out, or when Leo explains to Serling what they feel about being isolated)
What do you think on how each of them 4 feels on being different?
Hello, and thank you for the ask 💚
Ooh, this is a good question. Shout out to the reblog mentioned (original post by @teenagemutantninjatrauma)
This got really long, so I'm gonna stick it under the cut.
I'm a firm believer that Raph takes it the hardest.
He so badly wants to be able to move around in the open and just be himself. I interpret a lot of his anger as frustration at feeling 'trapped' in the Sewers and unable to just live his life 'normally', and I think the frequency with which he storms off topside is a symptom of this.
He also does not hesitate to reveal himself to humans. As early as "Meet Casey Jones" he shows his full face to Casey, even though he's only just met the guy. And again in "Lone Raph and Cub", Raph doesn't even try to disguise himself when he confronts Tyler or the mobsters. While this might be an indication of his impulsivity, I think it's also Raph's open need to just be his honest self.
In addition, with Mrs Morrison, he really seems to just relax and feel comfortable being himself. True, she's blind so she can't see him as a mutant, but he's easily among the calmest and most at peace we've ever seen him when he's just chilling out at her place.
And even when he struggles with future tech in Fast Forward, he jumps at the chance to attend a wrestling match in person.
This boy is so desperate to just be 'normal'.
Mikey also struggles with being 'different'. His first appearance as Turtle Titan is all about him wanting to be accepted by the public for the hero he is. And he's visibly crushed when he's treated like a monster by the lady he saves.
He's also the most openly friendly when they meet new people. If anyone's going to smile and wave and make the newcomers feel at ease, it's Mikey (unless he perceives them as a threat, like with the Underground city mutants mentioned).
I think getting to be a part of NYC's superhero scene, and eventually joining the Justice Force, really scratches Mikey's itch for community and being included and admired. That need is also what I think drives his showboating at the Battle Nexus. This boy positively glows in front of a crowd.
Donnie definitely seeks acceptance, though I think his logic overcomes his heart in that respect. He knows that mutants like him will not be widely accepted by humans, and as much as he wants to be seen and rewarded for his genius, he's well aware of the risks. In the future with O'Neil Tech, I definitely see him taking more of a backseat, behind-the-scenes approach, while April fronts the company.
That said, I think his curiosity overcomes his caution, like with Kirby or April's Uncle Augie. I think he's generally happy tucking himself away in his lab for hours on end, but like most Donnies, I get the impression that he longs for more. If there's ever a turtle that craves new information, it's Donatello.
At least with 03 Don, he seems to latch onto anyone like-minded (April, Leatherhead, Professor Honeycutt etc), so that tells me he's really longing for people who understand the way his mind works and who he can collaborate with. His family are great for other stuff, but like many acedemics, he craves having peers.
Leo seems the most comfortable of the 4 with living in the shadows and isolating himself from society at large.
He's easily the most guarded around most humans (with the exception of early seasons Karai 😉), which I think speaks to him always being on the alert for danger and threats to his family. When he's on the surface, he's often in full leader mode.
He relaxes a lot more when they're off world and the danger of them being exposed to humans is vastly reduced or absent. We see him being friendlier and less guarded around people like Traximus, The Daimyo and Professor Honeycutt, for example. However, he's often still not as open and friendly as his brothers to new people, and there's almost always a formality to his interactions, as if he's always on duty. (I can relate! 😭)
There's also always a little bit of guardedness around Leo when it comes to newcomers. He's even noticeably the most wary of April when the Turtles first bring her into their home, mimicking Master Splinter in an effort to tell if she's trustworthy or not.
The ones he's most at ease around (outside of his family) are those he recognises as kindred spirits, namely Karai and Usagi. He seems to implicitly trust them, perhaps because he sees himself in them so much (for better or worse *cough Karai cough*).
It feels like, of the 4 brothers, Leo's the one that took Master Splinter's warnings about humans to heart the most. So he's polite, but it takes him a lot to really open up to and trust others fully. I think he's shaped himself so entirely around being a ninja that aspects of wanting to live a 'normal' life generally don't even occur to him. When Leo gets involved, it's more out of obligation and duty than wanting to be a part of the community, like with the City at War arc. He didn't do any of that in order to be accepted or loved (unlike the Mutant Mayhem boys /hj) but because he felt honourbound.
Of course, we also know he's got a bad habit of repressing how he really feels... 😅
the best way to avoid out-of-character moments in your fics is to write about characters who are so obscure that they don't even have canon personalities. "he would not fucking say that" well he wouldn't say anything if this was canon so hey what can you do
Spent a ridiculous amount of time last night obsessively editing my hand written zines in Photoshop to take away any tiny blemishes so they were definitely readable.
[image Description: Page 9 of the Voidstar webcomic contains 7 panels. Panel 1 shows Xari reaching into the coils of the tree, unaware that another fatter, blue member of their alien species is standing behind them with her arms crossed. Panel 2 shows Xari looking at the fruit they just picked, saying "got it!". In panel 3, they are startled, white exclamation marks above their head, when they hear "Xari?" from the other character. In panel 4, Xari looks back, holding the fruit in one of their hands as they climb down, saying "oh, hey Tebu!". Panel 6 shows a close up of Tebu, the blue alien, looking confused. She says "Morning... what are you doing," causing Xari in the final panel to respond "getting breakfast". /End ID]

multiple people have said being warned about inconvenient side effects helps dissuade them from starting substances, so here's a longer list.
if you're smoking it, you are going to be coughing a lot. you are going to be breathless a lot. your breath and smell are gonna be real bad.
if you're going to be snorting it. do you want to have a permanent sniffy nose? this is how you get a permanent sniffy nose.
if you're injecting it. you will develop weird painful spots and also itchiness.
in general: you are gonna be so tired and you will feel so evil and your sleep will not be normal and you will be pooping way too much or way too little and it will also stink and you will have really bad headaches. and your memory will get worse.
with alcohol - you will unlock evil nausea and grogginess and also you will have crazy dreams and general brain fog
with opiates - do you want to be itchy forever. this is how you be itchy forever.
with psychedelics - basically you will never feel hungry or tired again and no matter how much fun you think it is it is actually hell on earth to not be able to reset your body and you desperately need a reset and you have misplaced the button for reset.
with meth and the associated family -- You will feel your heart in places your heart should not be and also this never goes away
also not fun: spending money on things you cannot afford. and the slow realisation that you promised to never lose control. and then you did.
"i already experience these" Great. It gets worse. It gets so much worse.
"well I can't be addicted to stimulants because I have ADHD / opiates because I have chronic pain" I need you to know. This is a lie. The primary difference on why people experience withdrawals is the strength of the dosage. Also ignores the amount of disabled people who ended up addicted because they could not find their medication otherwise.
this post was written by an addict and if you're going to be weird about addiction do us both a favour and don't interact with me
One thing I love putting in my fantasy and scifi that so many stories I read don't have is superstitions that are just wrong. Astrology type shit. Wizards being assigned an elemental type that's supposed to determine their personality just because that's how it's been done for centuries because ages ago people believed in it and these days people are like "no of course it's a silly superstition haha" but still glance knowingly at your metal type tattoo when you're being headstrong. Societies who believe that the stars determine your destiny because see, this kid was born under the star that indicated intelligence so we pushed her in school and got her special tutors so she could live up to her potential and look, she IS more academically successful than her peers born under other stars! People talking about their religion in the far future and all the side characters are like "that sounds like fucking nonsense" and they're like "no it's TRUE" and the audience is like 'no that's nonsense'. I love inventing shit for characters to just be totally wrong about.
One thing I'm putting in a pet project is the idea that "it's really important for magic users to marry someone non-magical to reduce the chances of madness in the bloodline"
There's rigorous academic (and non-academic) debate over whether this actually works, or if it's worth the effort even if it does. Different areas and cultures adhere to the process with varying levels of strictness. Basically all the evidence is anecdotal.
Since magic users going crazy is a recognized problem and a lot of parents teach it to their children, places that believe bloodline dilution works go a little crazy with it. Anyone claiming to be able to calculate your susceptibility to magical insanity based on your family tree is generally either lying or wrong.
What I've decided but don't intend to reveal is that it sort of works, but not because of genetics. Having someone in the house who isn't involved in whatever universe-probing you're doing is helpful because they will notice and get you help if you start going off the rails, or remove the kids from the house before everything explodes.
tfw you universe’s Superman equivalent is a fucking wonderful black man (who also has more personality than most incarnations of Superman himself coughcough)
as much as i may have some qualms with the existence of superheroes in 2k3 universe, there’s no denying that the heroes they came up with were kickass amazing. The Justice Force was so diverse it was beautiful.
Chrysalis from India
Tsunami from Japan
then there was the later members like Raptarr who’s existence as a member of the Avian race of winged people played an essential role in an overarching narrative in 2k3 about slavery, classism, and imperialism
not to mention the other members like Ananda, who was canonically (in 2k3 anyway) revealed to be born out of wedlock in secret because her mother was (presumably) too scared to reveal her pregnancy to her team due to the fact that she was the center of a love triangle between two of said justice force team mates
and these are only a handful of the Justice Force members that were revealed over the course of the series. Sure, some of them didn’t get as much backstory or fleshing out as others who got their own episodes (like the original Justice Force members) but at least there’s something to be said in that despite the fact that these characters are all minor at best, it still felt like there was some care put into their existences. Even the throw-away characters in 2k3 had a base amount of thought and effort put into them to the extent of surpassing the default white male ally or standard damsel in distress. Whenever they could, 2k3 took the initiative to insert screen time for marginalized groups and, even if they weren’t the focus of the show, the fact that they existed at all meant something to me as a kid.
genius tags from @/theunicorncomic-blog, headcanon accepted
#anyone else headcanon that silver sentry was the boy who saved the old man#in the accident that made the turtles mutants#because it was a black kid instead of a white one in this version#and they never actually explain where he came from#so I like to think that the mutagen gave him superpowers#he’s about the right age and it would be a cute nod to the fact that they share an origin with Daredevil#(side note when will marvel do a daredevil/TMNT crossover?? we got a Batman TMNT crossover before the hero they directly parody)
