On Dog Love

I've been reading a lot of poetry recently, and I've noticed a pattern between the portrayal love and the loyalty of a dog. Why are we so drawn to the way a dog loves? Is it the loyalty, is it the fact that we want to care for something, and be the only one that something knows as home? Or is it because, instinctively, we long for love to be as simple as waiting at the door?

People keep trying to find ways to simplify the human existence but that, in itself, is why our complexity makes the way we feel so distinct from any other living thing.

Because when we wait at the door, we're burdened with the certainty that the person we're waiting for will someday change their mind, no matter how loyal we are.
