HISTORY
Natalie was born in Los Angeles to an African-American father and a Korean-American mother. At the age of 16, she moved to South Korea in order to follow her dreams of becoming an idol, auditioning for many entertainment companies before being accepted into YG Entertainment. There, Natalie trained with several other of the female trainees with the hopes of debuting in her future.
During this training period, Natalie began appearing as a face for YG's street-wear brand, NONA9ON, gaining attention with her exotic visuals. She also made several appearances in various YG artist's music videos, such as CL and Epik High, as well as performing as a backup dancer in various stage promotions. It was during one of these performances that a fan-taken video of Natalie was taken and posted on the social networking site Naver. The post soon went viral, attracting attention and recognition for her passionate and skilled dancing.
As her fame continued to grow, many netizens were eager to know if Natalie would be debuting as a member of YG's upcoming girl group, PINK PUNK (now known as BLACKPINK). However, YG denied the rumors and announced that Natalie would be training to become a solo artist, Unfortunately, after becoming frustrated with the company's delays and strict restrictions, Natalie decided to terminate her contract with YG in early 2016.
After departing from YG, Natalie took matters concerning her career into her own hands, adopting the stage name ‘Nana’ and independently releasing her debut digital single 25/7 on February 26, 2016.
