scientific mishaps. { open! }
To have Sai squeeze him back with every word uttered from his mouth always reassured Shin that she really cared, and that she wasn’t just faking her words. They were true, they were real. Beforehand, Shin had wanted to disappear. When thinking that he’d never see Sai again, and to roam the ruins with nothing but guilt, he wanted to disappear so badly. Now that Sai had asked that question, he would stand by her, word for word. He wouldn’t ever disappear, and he wouldn’t ever let her out of his sight again, for the first time, Shin had something worth living for, even if he was already dead, the two were together. Even after they couldn’t be when they were alive.
Watching Sai look at him with teary eyes made his stomach churn, it was sudden instinct that had Shin raise a hand, gently wiping away the tears that were slowly being shed. He didn’t want her to cry, not at all. Even if Shin was oblivious to said emotion, he knew that it was tears of happiness, and he almost immediately wanted to bury his face somewhere out of sight, he didn’t want Sai seeing him cry in return, but Shin couldn’t take his eyes off her. A small chuckle escaped thin white lips, his features now gentle.
“Of course, I won’t ever break that promise.”
“A whole cake? How cruel of you, Sai.”
Her string of words were both amusing and cute. She always knew how to make Shin laugh, brighten up his day. The ghost still had an arm wrapped around her shoulders, the other now settling into his lab coat pocket. It felt natural, being as they were now. After the long strain of waiting, it finally happened. They were together. Shin glanced around the area, still anxious to other people’s mere existences and presence. To be in a public place like this alone would make Shin uncomfortable. After a brief silence, Shin looked back to Sai.
“Oh, where are you being kept?” He wanted to know, of course, as to where these other ‘scientists’ had put Sai. Shin couldn’t help but feel as if they had control over something that was his, a selfish and foolish thing to think, he had to admit, he was a tad bit jealous.
"You won't, hm~? Good.... and thank you."
He looked stunning, he looked natural... he looked perfect.
A small laugh just for her. And though they were surrounded by a vast number of people... it was no question, she was the only one who heard it. Who recognized it's strength, who knew it to be real. She locked it safely within her memories, in a box which were now waiting to be filled by many more as they lived on in this city.
"Ah... I'm stuck at I-3. The all too popular 'ghetto' sector. Everyone's cramming to get in there, ya know." The joke was weak and a sigh soon followed it. Unlike the other citizens, she had little risk of facing a second death while living in the most dangerous of all sectors. That didn't mean she enjoyed it though. The constant screaming, the bullet showers that fell like rain, the corners filled with drugs and diseases... a quick shiver ran down her spine.
Until she was allowed a room change there was nothing she could do but bear it.
....
Wait--
"What about you Shin? Are you staying anywhere nice?"
"... Maybe... we can...." Live together. Was what Sai had wanted to say. But at the last second, her tongue lost all confidence and tangled within itself. The implications of asking such a thing! Sharing a bed together would be too much stimulation for the poor girl. Especially when sleep was more of a habit than a necessity The things they would do to keep entertained--
N-No! The blush made it's comeback and she looked away from him as quickly as she could to hide it.
".... v-visit each other. O-Often!
We have a lot things to say to eachother, don't we? It'd be nice... to just sit down and talk again."
