Banzaisona Week Day 3: Day to Day!

kinda hard to finish repairs with two troublemakers pestering you… 

this is talos, a mundie engineer and inventor! incredibly skilled at their job, they spend most of their time tinkering on one project or another. sometimes they’ll even take a job building robots for other people. on their own time though, they work on perfecting their own inventions, like their chickbots! at this point, they practically qualify as pets rather than objects, and talos certainly treats them as such!

This time, Raychel is already at her seat. She’s eating some kind of granola bar, with a cup of warm cocoa in her hands. She seems pretty relaxed.

“…Data Log 3…” …She yawns. “…Mn. Apologies. It’s very early in the morning. Today is August 3rd, 2020…this is a continuation of a series of video logs. Thought I’d knock this off my to-do list while I have a day off. Let’s see…”

[QUESTION 3: DAY TO DAY. What’s your life like? Got a cool place to stay? Nice job? Nice neighborhood? Got any hobbies?]

“Currently…? I suppose my life is rather…busy now, since I technically work two jobs. Both of which deal with a various number of Inscribed, so…there’s always SOMETHING happening.” A LOOONG sigh. “…whether I like it or not. I do hope I’m left ALONE today, really, I need this…”

She pauses, and looks back towards the pitch black room for a moment, before turning back to the camera.

“While I can’t show you where I live, I can say that it’s comfortable. One could even say modern, as I’ve made it a point to keep up to date with technology in general. I have a home system, which everything is connected to. Makes things easier on my end when I’m just…spent from the day.”

She takes a sip.

“Mn. As for our job…” …Ray looks to one side. There’s something rather distant in them, and for a moment, you can see her icy blue hue dull in color… “…I used to like it, really. Thought I was making a difference and all that. Thought I was helping people–and don’t get me wrong, I still WANT to, just…when Father, they…”

They blink. And breathe in.

“Mn…no, that’s not relevant to the question…I suppose I’ll just say that being a police officer is a lot of work, especially when you’re in a position like mine. I have access to everything–every file on the police database, every street camera in the city, every unit we have. Every criminal ever caught, or still at large. Every…flaw. Everything that’s wrong, right there in front of me, and–”

Ray cuts herself off, and glances back at the camera.

“…That–that isn’t relevant either. I’ll…I’ll just move onto the next question…I don’t really talk to my neighbors. Never have, so I can’t say anything about them. Not exciting, I know…next one then. Ah!”

At last, her mood seems to brighten when she gets to the last question.

“I have several hobbies–I do enjoying coding in my spare time, it’s quite a…special interest to me, you could say. I also like to do puzzles…any kind, really, anything that gives our mind a workout. Hm–I used to do tennis when I was younger, though I haven’t gone back to that in a while…I should do that when I have time. Maybe I’ll bring Mailu along. Hopefully that’ll burn some of their energy…”

She hums, leans back into her chair, and takes nice, long sip.

“…Goodness, that got rather long. Right, that’s enough for today…end log.”

Day 3: Day to Day - What’s your life like? Got a cool place to stay? Nice job? Nice neighborhood? Got any hobbies?

“It’s pretty nice, if not a little boring for some people. I do painting on the side- but I usually just teach a few classes at the community college occasionally- basically a substitute, usually art- and then I do some art restoration jobs when I get them. I’m glad my work pays well.”

“Usually I start the day off getting a coffee- maybe snag some breakfast at the Daily Delight- then head off to work. The neighborhood is pretty quiet- but friendly, as long as there aren’t too many tourists.”

“This place is basically a tourism trap- a ton of fun places, as long as you’re ready for a bit of noise every now and then. It’s a nice place- a coastal town.”

“But yeah- as for the last one, yep. I like gardening- though I also learned to play the guitar. I’m a decent singer, I think. Though usually I invite some friends over to my place- and we just relax. Sometimes I plant vegetables and make salads. It’s pretty nice.”

Banzaisona Week Day 2- Epithet

As stated in their introduction, Almonds epithet is Deal which allows Almond to summon cards that deal out a variety of powers and allows them to negotiate any sort of deal. 

In detail, the cards they summon have different effects depending on their  suit and its power relies on the number/face off the card. 

[ Heart: Heal - Spade: Hurt - Diamond: Create - Clubs: Destroy ]

Almonds ‘secret’ ability is that they can persuade any person into making a deal with them, and that person must abide to the rules of said deal for up to an hour.

Banzaisona Week: Day Two

ERROR: AUDIO FILE NOT FOUND. LOADING TRANSCRIPT…

“Okay…Sweet! Got it up and running again.” Xander began. His voice sounded fairly chipper, like he was excited to record again.

“I think I’ll answer a few of the bonus prompts with this one today! I meant to yesterday but uh…got a little distracted.” He let out a sheepish laugh. “A-anyways! Let’s see here…” 

“…Oh. Oh.” His tone quickly changes, upset by the prompt he’s reading. “My…my epithet. Right. Well, for starters, yes, I am in fact inscribed. My epithet, specifically, is crepuscular. Crepuscular means of or relating to twilight, or animals that are active during the twilight. Because of that I uhm…have powers related to both light and dark? S-since, y’know, twilight’s like a combo of both? Uh–but, I also have powers of animals that are also crepuscular! Like–like foxes, and fireflies!” Xander stops for a moment, sighing.

“If I’m being perfectly honest, as cool as my powers are…I don’t like ‘em. In the slightest, actually. In fact, I’d much rather be a mundie.” The audio falls silent. After a few minutes, Xander coughs, breaking the silence.

“Uh! Anyways, mini-prompt! Hum….’Who are you working for/with?’ Well! I am proudly an independent villain! Sometimes, if Giovanni and I run into each other during a mission, we’ll help each other out. A-and,” his voice falters for a moment, “if I’m strapped for cash, I’ll take a job from an interested party.” 

“Okay! So! I think that does it for me today. So if I remember correctly…I just click this here to–” The audio cuts off, once again fading into static.

Banzaisona Week Day 2: Epithet!

now for someone completely different! felix, a known gremlin and public menace, has the epithet effervescent! which, ironically, has nothing to do with snails. due to their newly discovered inscribed status, his proficiency is rather low. but that won’t stop him from using it every second of every day. good to build up stamina early, i guess.

his epithet allows him to create a multitude of bubbles, useful for anything from a distraction to an emergency speed boost! and also for leaving disproportionately large messes. but hey, he’s having fun!

“I...do not have an epithet. But that doesn’t make me any less than those who do! I just have to work harder than everyone else! I can do whatever anyone with an epithet can do, I just have to be creative! I want to prove to people that mundies are just as strong and capable as those who are inscribed.”

“It does suck a little bit, when everyone else has such cool powers, but I try not to let that get me down! I’m cool just the way I am!”

Banzaisona Week: Day 2

My epithet is Holler! If I shout the name of something, it improves, porportionate to how loud I am. It's pretty fun, but I have to be careful with how often I use it, or else I might strain my voice. Usually I just use my epithet as an excuse to shout all the time!

The next video looks to be in the same place as before, though this time Raychel herself doesn’t appear on screen until a few seconds in. She sits down with a soft thump, fixes her hair, and once again clears her throat.

“Data Log 2. Today is August 2nd, 2020. This is the second of a series of video logs–I’m going to assume you’re watching these in the proper order–if not, please refer to Data Log 1. Onto the next series of questions, then…”

[QUESTION 2: EPITHET. Do you have an Epithet? What is it? What can you do? What do you think about it? Think it’s cool? Think it sucks?]

“Yes, I am Inscribed…on official files, I am Class 2, but…well, I’m afraid that is an outright lie. I’ve been Nova Class since I was 29. A bit of advice for anyone out there…never let anyone know all that what you’re truly capable of. Though I suppose the purpose of these video logs rather betrays that point…”

“My Epithet is Zero. It allows me to manipulate data–any kind of data, as long as I can calculate it. You’re probably wondering how ‘Zero’ would possibly allow me to do such a thing when, typically, Zero means nothing to most people.”

Raychel reaches into her jacket and pulls out…a stress ball. She squeezes it, once, before it starts to glow a bright red–and floats right out of her hand, suspended in mid-air by some unseen force.

“But I, however, interpret it differently. Zero is both a beginning and an end, and what lies beyond it. It is the other half of binary, of which all computer programs and digital systems rely on to function. Zero represents the absence, or lack of something…and just because something is not THERE does not mean it is harmless.”

She flicks her finger, and the stress ball follows it perfectly.

“Take gravity, for instance. No gravity–or the sudden shift of it can vastly affect the force–or lack thereof–any object. Another example would be temperature…”

As she speaks, the stress ball suddenly starts to frost over. Colder, and colder, until it looked like a small snowball.

“…I suppose in this case, yes, My Epithet is…cool. I find it easier to reduce temperature rather than raise it. I’ve found many, many uses for my Epithet over my entire lifetime…there’s a reason why my Proficiency is maxed out. It wouldn’t BE so if I thought my Epithet couldn’t do much. It’s only logical.”

The stress snowball returns to her hand, and icy frost around it slowly melts as she turns off her Epithet.

“Of course, I can do more than just turn off gravity or make things cold…but that’ll be something for another time, I think. That’s all for now–I have a rather busy day ahead of me. End log.”

Banzaisona Week Day 1- Introduce yourself!

Epithet: Deal- Deal allows the user to summon cards that deal out a variety of powers. It also allows the user to negotiate deals.

Almond is a kindhearted teen with a bad anxiety problem. They work at the Lecteur Reads Bookshop. But secretly- they are also a Banzai Blaster!! Well- Kind of.

Almond works independently from the Banzai Company but they do work for Giovanni! Whenever he strikes a good deal, that is.

Giovanni is an old friend of Almonds and ever since Giovanni became apart of the Banzai Blasters, he's been begging Almond to join.

Almond is smart enough to not be apart of a pyramid scheme but still dumb enough to help Giovanni out.

“Okay! Myself. Stuff about myself... oh! Okay, well, the name’s Astrid and according to my neighbour “that darn raccoon.” I’m an aspiring Banzai Blaster. I can’t afford the membership, but I mean, if I bother ask them enough, then they’ll have to let me join! I won’t give up until I’m one of them. I even made my own Banzai Blaster pin! It’s super cool!!!

Do you have any cool nicknames?

“Do I? I’ll have you know that I’m a nickname aficionado. My name is cool enough as is, but I go by many aliases. Namely (😉), Asteroid, Blastrid, Blasteroid, Asterix, and The Trixter. Pretty cool, right? I came up with all of them myself!!”

Banzaisona Week Day 1: Introductions!

oh babey we groovin’! introducing: Blackout, known banzai blaster and local cryptid! no one’s really sure which captain they’re under, but hey, they’re always around, so who’s complaining?

with their epithet, shade, getaways become a thing of ease under the cover of darkness! their inability to be pinned down is drawn back only by their complete lack of offensive power and general conflict-avoidance. they’re here to make friends and eat baked goods, and they’re all out of baked goods.

Static.

There’s a flickering of images, of red-coded binary, of a familiar, heart shaped symbol, and then for the briefest of nanoseconds, a searing red dot that eerily looks back. Watching.

But then the static returns just as fast. The video takes a few seconds to focus, but when it does, it seems to be from the perspective of a small camera mounted on rather elaborate desktop set-up, with multiple computer monitors on either side showing various files and live camera feeds. And sitting in front of it all?

A woman of Deepwood descent, typing away on a keyboard with machine-like speed and precision. She brushes away a lock of snow-white hair as she glances at the camera. The room behind her is pitch dark, making it impossible to tell where she was recording this from.

“Alright…”

She clears her throat, moving her hands away from the keys to fold in front of her chest.

“Data Log 1. Today is August 1st, 2020. I am compiling a series of video logs in accordance with several contingency protocols, in the event or events that would otherwise lead to my termination or disappearance. Better safe than sorry, as my father always said. That being said, if you are watching this without authorization…well, I must congratulate you on getting past my firewalls and encryption. Unfortunately, unless you accounted for it, my system is set up to erase all data on this computer the moment its security is compromised. I’m afraid it’s too late to save anything now…”

There’s a small pause.

“…however, if you are still watching…then I suppose I should let you know that these videos contain rather sensitive and confidential information regarding myself and…other matters of which I have not disclosed to many people. For obvious reasons, as you will soon find out.”

Another pause.

“…For what it’s worth, I apologize in advance. It was necessary. ALL of it was necessary. Again–you’ll soon learn why.”

She closes her eyes, and takes in a deep breath.

“…Now then. We’ll start with the basics. I have a pre-written list of simple questions, but for now, I’ll only answer this one and save the rest for other logs…”

[QUESTION 1: Tell us a little bit about yourself! Got a cool nickname?]

“My name is Raychel Athena Blackwell. I am 34 years old, 6′2, and Deepwood/Seaside Race. I am currently a Police Officer of the Sweet Jazz City Police Department–I work in Tech and Data Analysis. As for nicknames…mn. I can think of a few from some of the people I work with. Numbers comes to mind, as well as…”

Sigh.

“…VARIOUS others of a ridiculous nature from a certain juvenile delinquent. I won’t go into them, otherwise this log will be longer than it has to be.”

Raychel hums, leaning back into her chair, looking at another monitor as they do so. “…There isn’t much I can say about myself. I live alone, and I am not exactly a very sociable person. You could say I’m just a rather…private individual overall. It’s something I value, I suppose. Which is…a little ironic, considering…”

…They trail off.

“…Mn. Never mind that. I’ll go into more detail later. I think this is enough for now. End log.”

Vega Highhedge

An accountant of Sweet Jazz City. Sick and tired of seeing people having to make ends meet and being screwed over by unfair banking procedures, Vega turned to the Banzai Blasters as a way to organize bank robberies to steal from rich accounts and leave them at the door step of people affected by the ineffective systems. This tends not to work because people don't immediately accept mysterious money packages without having the police investigate first.
