My thoughts about Burn the Stage:
BTS are willing to show us a face they never shown before and drop the mask that idols have to wear. As they rap in HER-Outro:
I can never take off the mask
Because the me behind this mask
Make up to wake up today too
A heavy mask that is so sparkly and smiley from the outside but makes you feel like a bird in a cage the more you wear it. When a concept turns into a lifestyle that’s when things go down and a person loses their identity and you think you are either deceiving yourself or people. BTS want to change that but they are scared as they said in the love yourself skit called ’hesitation and fear:
“Rap Monster: That time, that was then, and now is now. I think it’s like our collective idea of an idol. About how we want to live, what we show. We keep throwing out social issue messages, like even now, our album title is “Love Yourself” too. We don’t make meaningless songs but doing this seems like we’re acting too, as we’re living our life.
Jimin: Yeah, so I think people might not know…
J-Hope: We want to show a good image to people (Chattering)
Jimin: They don’t understand why we have to live like this, there’s no other way
Jin: We have always shown ourselves as good people (J-Hope laughs)
Jimin: Yeah I mean we want to show our good image too
Suga: This is, this is difficult. I mean it isn’t fake for sure
Suga: If you think about it, we’re just people that are presented after being wrapped up nicely
Jimin: But of course at the same time, it’s not like we’re trying to deceive anyone and lie..it’s not that..we’re just always trying to show them our good sides, so…" source x
See they are scared and they came out of this shell to show us their pain too something unusual for an idol. Their human side. So please don’t be hard on them and let’s continue supporting them. Let’s finally not forget: We are all humans and no matter how our consequences are different we all know about joy and pain. Maybe in different degrees but we know and so they know too.
