I'm not the most well read when it comes to comics featuring Emma Frost. @mlady-magnolia, @hannah8208 & @newx-menfan are much more familiar with the full breadth of her character and the stories told with her.

But i'd be curious to know, how much did Emma ever speak of her family/background before her 2003 solo series gave us concrete depiction of her youth? Because I came across this panel from a comic that. per, google lens, was written in 94 where she remarked on having no issue using her powers on her father when she wanted a new car, or using it to pass all her classes.

I know her father, Winston, was depicted as an abusive asshole in the solo but I'd be curious to read other scenes of her thinking back to her family to see if any contradictions emerge with how they'd ultimately be depicted.

Gen X gives us a glimpse into Emma’s family; more Adrienne than Cordelia. Cordy is much younger in this book than Morrison and Emma’s backstory is different (I believe she was the one institutionalized, not Christian).

Christian I think *MIGHT* have been mentioned in Gen X (it’s been a long time since I read the book!) but it seemed like he was dead.

Emma’s family dynamic is again referenced in Morrison when Jean attacks Emma- this time with more backstory around Emma, her father, and Christian. After that, Christian pretty much become a mainstay (he appears in her mini, Iceman, and later Marauders!).

Cordy is probably the least shown out of the Frost clan- we haven’t SEEN her powers although all the bios say she’s a high level empath!

I’m always interested in Adrienne’s husband Steven (who I believe Adrienne killed, if I am remembering it right!) and if Adrienne had any children? I could see Emma shipping the kid to some private school, far, far away after Adrienne died.

Laura literally dated an Angel (Warren) and a Devil (Julian).

Saw this on a “Havok/Polaris” joke and this is the core problem with the X-Men…we’re not allowed to have “mess” or “drama”.

I’ve never been a big fan of the ship… but I do kind of miss the toxic X-Men relationships because the truth is almost everyone ends up or is friends with someone IN a bad relationship.

Like that’s kind of just PART of the human experience?

I'm here thinking it doesn't even have to be a thing for actual couples. Have Hellion and Wolverine Logan accidentally get married during an undercover mission, and then them both trying to hide it from Laura any time the three of them cross paths.

Have Emma and Scott get married for some financial scheme, since maybe Scott and Jean are technically considered separated due to both of them dying. Emma lords her marriage status over Jean and tells her, "Don't worry. I'm sure you'll be married one day, too."

Jubilee and Chamber get drunk and wake up married. They decide to get divorced, but treat it as an in-joke and have fun with it.

I'm 95% sure Julian and Nori got Drunk Vegas Married during Krakoa and then drunk divorced for the sole purpose of them calling each other "The Ex Husband/Wife"

What do you think Laura would be like today, if she retained her earlier characterization created by KYOST, Liu, Quesada, and Gage?

What do you think her solo title would have looked like, if we didn’t have the direction change via Bendis/Hopeless/Taylor?

I already answered some of what I thought- but I am curious what others answers would be?

Would Julian and Laura have reconnected? Would Julian have simply moved on?

What would have happened with Kimura?

Would Laura have broken free of the trigger scent?

It is a frankly interesting question!

(Sorry for not seeing this earlier, I just bought Cyberpunk 2077 and have been marathoning it for a couple of weeks now.)

I feel like we could have eventually seen something like Taylor's rendition, albeit with a more obvious dark/troubled side that would come out more. Something that shows she's gotten comfortable enough to open up, and finds it easier to fit in with society. But she'd still internally view herself as an outsider.

If they kept her old characterization, her ditching everyone at the drop of a hat could be a feature instead of a bug. She's not dropping her supporting cast and being a bad friend; for various reasons, she thinks they're better off without her, so she's always at the ready to walk away. It'd actually be a pretty cool aspect to have that as a character trait, where she's sabotaging her own relationships and dealing with the consequences of running away.

We saw a bit of that with NYX #8, and it'd be cool to expand that to all her relationships. Even if Julian is one of the people she affected most, I'd have loved to see Mercury hopelessly fail at keeping in touch, or Pixie getting angry that one of her besties is with the Avengers kids, or Laura genuinely thinking about Surge's criticisms about her behavior.

Imagine if she didn't warm up to Gabby as easily. Like she continually pushes her away, the way Logan did with Laura. Laura thinks she's protecting Gabby, but she's actually hurting her. And Gabby would have to force her way into Laura's life and ensure that Laura can't leave her like she does everyone else.

Helix would still remain unaddressed because Marvel has long since abandoned long-standing relationships and dynamics with the vast majority of their characters. Now all characters treat each other like coworkers.
