Maybe it was a bad dream or something.
He took a kid, David, and she is very important to me.
“She hated people who came too near to her. Like a wild thing, she wanted her distance.”
— D. H. Lawrence, from The Complete Works; “The Rainbow,” wr. c. 1919
my mama never could pin down a good man, so i swore to god that we would do things right. but marriage ain’t the end of bein’ lonely. sometimes it feels like it’s the start. ‘cause the years keep rolling on and all i know for sure ------ there’s so many little ways to break a heart. our demons didn’t take too long to show up, turns out when i drink, i like to fight. and then you’d leave the house and you wouldn’t tell me where you went to ease your sorrows late at night. and we fought for three whole days when i got pregnant, where i disappeared to, no one knew. when i came back i carried myself different, it was all the growin’ up i had to do. we can’t hide our claws--- our teeth--- our anger, the fire’s hot and this could last all night. the air is thick with things we haven’t said yet, 'cause we’re saving them for when they’ll sting just right. and i hang on to suffering like it’s a winning hand and i’m waiting my turn to cash it all in. and how we stay together, i’ll never understand. sometimes i think god is up there laughing at my plans.
You’re just some Good Samaritan who couldn’t stand by?

‘ i’m not doing cocaine. i just have a feeling i would be unbearable. ’ - barbaby
❛ good. you better not, ‘cause my dad told me how crazy the music scene can get and i’m not about to start keeping secrets like that from your mom. she scares me too much. ❜

- You might as well just shoot me now. - Only someone who’s never been shot says somethin’ stupid like that. - [laughs] Okay. Fair.
songs written by audrey warden : most of her songs have small town themes, the clearest of which being time honored tradition. texas itself is a common theme as well, due to her complicated relationship with the state. her complicated relationship with the country music capital is even shown in this town is killing me. she tends to feature steel guitars frequently, as well as classic country - western crooning, but she’s not afraid of trying modern styles or branching out into a more bluesy style. her tempo is usually slow enough to be played in a quiet dance hall, which is where her career best thrives. warden’s lyrics are usually blunt and humorous, and she’s not afraid of borderline name - dropping in her work like in i don’t like you or your band.
