The opening trailers for Tropic Thunder are meant to show how ridiculous the actors are, with one of them (played by Robert Downey Jr) doing blackface as part of “method acting.” The joke as it was intended makes fun of his character and how insensitive it is to do that and how stupid he is for not understanding that.
