The Joker laughs brightly, “I haven’t been at this as long as you, young buck?” he asks, turning his head, “Sometimes it’s more fun to leave them alive begging to know why you did this to them.”
Bucky hummed a bit, his nose scrunching up the smallest bit. “ Again, I suppose that could be something debatable. Though, I would have to assume, yes. ”
&&. — “IF THEY DID, THEY MIGHT BE INSANE – THOUGH, IT’S USUALLY the insane ones that want the most,” Selina smirked and took her drink when the bartender handed it to her. “But do keep telling me how much you like my ideas. It’s very gratifying.”
“ Hey, either way, there are plenty of people around here who could be considered insane. ” He smiled, his brows raising in amusement. “ Yeah? I’ll have to keep it up, then, sure. ”
“Nor do I,” The Joker grins, “At least a thousand, I expect. I do believe Batsy has the answer to that particular query.”
“ A thousand? Easily. Understand, I’m positive that you haven’t been at this nearly as long. I’m sure there’s a number tucked away somewhere. I’m not particularly interested in finding it. ”
&&. — THE EASE OF HIS WORDS ACTUALLY MADE HER CHUCKLE AND he was met with another shook head of hers, as though she couldn’t believe him but wasn’t in a place to leave anyway – after all laughter and a free drink are forms of gratification as well. May not have been how she wanted to spend her evening in the first place, but things change. “Well, handsome, candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker. Maybe I could dabble in adult trick or treat, procure little bottles.”
A light chuckle of his own echoed hers, and he offered a small nod, clearly amused by the suggestion. “ Oh, I’m sure plenty of people would go wild over that. I don’t think anyone can really rightfully turn down free alcohol. ”
❝It doesn’t bother me particularly. If you ask me, I have enough in Diwali. However, I know the people that I live with in the tower would probably prefer Halloween over a festival of light, ❞ she admitted, tugging a strand of hair behind her ear. A curious smile playing on her lips. ❝Have you always disliked it? Or is it more of a recent thing? I thought all Americans enjoyed this holiday - or at least most of them. ❞
“ I know Halloween’s all in good fun, but I certainly can’t say I don’t think that a festival of light would be a much more positive celebration. ” He smiled, lightly, shaking his head. “ As far as I know, it’s a recent thing. I think it’s fine, I wouldn’t say I dislike it. Just getting a little tired of seeing it. ”
“The store thing is annoying, I’ll give you that. And the day after Halloween is over it’ll be nothing but Christmas everywhere.”
“ The Christmas thing I think I could understand after Halloween. People are forgetful, need to be reminded to buy gifts if they’re going to. But they could have definitely waited a while. ”
The Joker grins, “What’s your number, then?” he asks, his eye bright with interest.
“ It — depends. ” He practically forces the words out, jaw tight. “ One way or another, I don’t have an exact number. ”
&&. —“OF COURSE I’M NOT,” SHE CHUCKLED DRYLY AND SHOOK HER head before running fingers through her curls with a smirk. She didn’t think many would disagree with her on that. But even if they did, it was true for her, so the rest didn’t matter. But regardless of what he thought, sex wasn’t always on her mind or the first thing she went to. It was just also the safest. Kind of. “Mm no worries, sweetheart,” Selina mocked him from earlier, “I will, however take that drink. Make it a scotch. Neat, and I’m your girl.”
“ Well then. Consider it done, ” he paused, smirking, catching that little mock. “ Darling. Keep it simple, remember? Easy. Just a drink. ” He pulled his attention away from her for the moment, flagging over the tender, ordering the drink. Which, once it came up, he slid in her direction. “ Scotch, neat. Respectable choice, that’s for sure. ”
&&. —“I THINK ABOUT PLEASURE. GRATIFICATION. SEX IS ONE WAY to get that, and by far one of the easiest to obtain.” At least for her, though, in truth if people had no standards then everyone could have their life that way. As human, though, everyone had their judgments and not all were good. She just wanted a happy life, as happy as she could make it after her childhood. “Your loss.” Hers, too, a bit. He was cute. Probably older than her? But did she care? No, that just made it better even if it wasn’t by much.
A quiet hum slipped from him, an amused smirk tugging at his lips. “ No, no. You’re certainly not wrong about that. ” He definitely couldn’t disagree with that. But that particular form of it was— more often than not— practically the last thing on his mind. “ My apologies if you were expecting this to go some other way. I assume that you were. Least I could do is offer to buy you another drink. ”
&&. —“HOW DO YOU LIVE?” THE BRUNETTE JOKED, BUT HONESTLY when she lived her life for herself and her pleasure since no one else could give it to her, she couldn’t see the way some people lived. Other ways just didn’t suit her, even if they were imagined by her when she was little. “You might want to explore those, would make your sex life happier, and yourself. Though, most men don’t have a problem achieving climax. Maybe you should learn for your girl.”
“ You think a lot about sex, don’t you? ” It wasn’t meant as a hostile statement, and his tone expressed that. Genuine curiosity. “ No, I don’t really, ah—“ He paused, shaking his head. “ No, I think I’m alright. I’m happy with what I’ve got. It’s simple. ”
&&. —“MM YOU’RE NO FUN. DON’T YOU HAVE ANY… KINKS?” There was some tact there, even if it was thinly veiled just as the previous innuendo – the brunette liked to have her games, but when they weren’t played as well, it was disappointing, but she didn’t let her work slide away. She just rethought tactics. Selina was smart that way – adaptable. “Oh I have plenty of tricks, but the whole experience is a treat.” When she had intent, she was not a tease, not that way at least. But maybe just getting him in a costume would appease.
“ Sorry to disappoint, sweetheart. To the extent of my knowledge, I’m either vanilla, or haven’t pursued anything enough to even vaguely consider it a kink. ” He ignored the way that his skin itched with the way she spoke. He couldn’t quite pin down why it did.
“Now that is a trend I never caught on with.” Cassie laughed.
“ Aw, why not? It’s the flavor of the season! ” He expressed, albeit a bit teasing the trend.
&&. —“WELL, WHAT IS YOUR STYLE, THEN? COLOR ME CURIOUS,” she breathed before taking a sip of her wine and tilting her head. “I think you know exactly what treat I’d be willing to give you. And if you don’t maybe you’re not my style,” Selina teased, lightly mocking.
“ Probably just about anything that doesn’t really involve putting on elaborate costumes. No matter the reason, ” he explained, shrugging a bit, setting his now nearly empty glass on the bar, sliding it a few inches out of the way. “ Oh, don’t get me wrong, I have a handful of guesses. I’m simply curious to see whether or not it’d be all that interesting. I’m sure plenty of people would say that tricks are more interesting. ”
&&. — A BROW QUIRKED IN DARING, DARING HIM TO LIE, DARING him to say she’s wrong, but then he didn’t and he grinned, making her smirk with an air of pride. “Of course I’m not,” the girl chuckled and tilted her head. “Awe, but you should. I’d definitely give you a treat,” she flirted. “Roleplay is fun.”
He offered a brief hum in thought, lifting his drink to his lips and taking a long swig. “ I dunno— stuff like that’s not really my style. Plus I’m not particularly sure what sorta treat you had in mind that’d actually win me over. ”
“see? you get it. it’s because you’re a cool dude, man. dude man.” he scoffed and put his hand on his chest. “listen, i might be short, but i am a total adult. adult in the supreme. highest form of adult…what do i gotta do to prove that, talk in the bat voice?” he cleared his voice and then deepened it. “i am the spider, i am the web in the night, the adult web. in the night.”
“ What, not having a lot of luck with other people getting it? ” His brows raised a bit at the proclamation that he was an adult, but the bat impression had him actually grinning. “ The adult web in the night. Yeah, alright. Look, just try to stay sober if you’re patrolling, alight? Don’t drink and web, or something like that. ”
“My parade is immune to rain,” The Joker grins, waving a hand dismissively, “Well, well, I expect however substantial your body count may be, it doesn’t quite rival mine.”
“ You sure do seem confident about that, ” he deadpanned, keeping steady eye contact. “ You really sure that’s the case? ”
