Saying that man and woman are the only genders is actually LESSÂ nuanced than saying that earth, water, air, and fire are the only elements.
This is fantastic.

WIP tonight. I don't know what's gotten into me with these candy colors- they're not my usual palette at all, and they certainly don't fit the inspiration (concentric lichen rings). But they're cheerful, and it's February, and I have a gloomy cold, and I'll take it.

Collecting Animal Tears
Like humans, most vertebrates rely on tear films to keep their eyes moist and protected from the environment. But compared to humans, some animalsâ tears have superior staying power. Punkâd History, Vol. VIII: This Machine [blank] Fascists
It has the appearance of a worrisome pattern: any number of punk rockâs founding figures embraced the symbolics of Nazi Germany. Ron Asheton, an original and indispensable member of the Stooges, played a number of gigs wearing a red swastika armband, and liked to sport Iron Cross medals and a Luftwaffe-style leather jacket. Sid Vicious loved his bright scarlet, swastika-emblazoned tee shirt, and Siouxsie Sioux, during her tenure as the It-Girl of the Bromley Contingent, mixed her breast-baring, black leather bondage gear with a bunch of âNazi chic.â And how many early Ramones songs (inevitably penned by Dee Dee) referenced Nazi gear, concepts and geography? âBlitzkrieg Bop,â âToday Your Love, Tomorrow the World,â âCommando,â âItâs a Long Way Back to Germany,â âAllâs Quiet on the Eastern Front,â and so onâfor sure, more than a few.

Anne Guthrie / Virginia Overton / François Bonnet â Sculpture Gardens (Future Audio Graphics)
Itâs a sad, hard fact that circulating music by means of physical objects is becoming the exception and not the rule. So, if youâre going to do it, might as well do it right and make it special. Future Audio Graphics makes LPs that bind interdisciplinary collaborations within gatefold LPs. Each combines a text by one artist, images by another and a record of sounds by a third. Ironically on Sculpture Gardens the efforts of writer François Bonnet (aka Kassel Jaeger), sculptor Virginia Overton and sound artist Anne Guthrie cohere into a consideration of impermanence.

Behold the rainbow eucalyptus (Eucalyptus deglupta)! This large evergreen tree grows up to about 60 meters (197 feet) tall and is native to the dense, humid forests of New Guinea, Indonesia, and the Philippines. What gives it such a spectrum of color? When strips of its bark peel off, they change in color: bark starts out in shades of green, then transitions into purple, red, and orange as time goes on. Continuous peeling helps the tree keep its trunk clear of other plants. And having a vibrant range of colors is thought to help it absorb a wider range of light to aid in photosynthesis. The chevrotain, one of the smallest hoofed mammals in the world, is known by many namesâand comparisons to many other animals. Its common name comes from the French for âlittle goat.â In English, itâs also called a âmouse-deer.â In Telugu, one of the classical languages of India, itâs called âjarini pandi,â which means âa deer and a pig.â What does this tiny hoofed critter look like to you?
