Facebook: Abhaas Menta confirms that Barun is not leaving Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon [16 May 2012]
Rangmunch TV: The other side of the fence [16 May 2012]
A lot is being discussed lately and talked on fan-forums about Barun Sobti who plays Arnav Singh Raizada in the Star Plus hit show Is Pyar Ko Kya Naam doon quitting the show owing to a movie offer that has come his way. So taking this as a reference point, we felt it would be apt for us get some questions and issues answered from various angles.
Is stepping into the movie world from the TV land a suicidal move for established Television Actors just in case it back fires? Does an actor leaving a show for the sake of a lucrative offer mean the end of their Television career as well if things don't work out? What effect does it leave on other parties involved?
While it is true that every actor wants to grow and experiment with variety during their work span, they also run the risk of offending a huge set of fans that learn to love the characters more than the actor at times. It is certainly a tough call. We have also often seen how fans do not take too kindly to their favourite actors leaving shows half way through. There have been instances where the makers have had to shut down shows due to dwindling numbers post a characters exit.
A Fan perspective: being a fan of many shows myself here are some common things that are thought of instantly the moment an actor decides to leave a show. Very often, a fan feels let down that an actor has decided to leave what he already has earned for the sake of something that he is not sure of. There is also a fear of not seeing him on screen anytime soon. At times they also feel their favourite actors are not making the right choice by picking a character role in a three hour film over a long standing main lead character in a soap. Psychologically one tends to also interpret the move as something that might end up being detrimental for the actor. The chances of liking the same actor in another set up, with another bunch of people is also something, that is not easy to accept. All of this makes the fans jittery. There have been instances when actors have lost fans only because they have chosen to move forward. Even though they wish well for the actor at all times, they want them to do well within the ambit of what is already existent.
But are all these concerns valid? So do actors find it tougher the second time around? How does the TV industry react to people who have left this medium in the want of a supposedly bigger one and subsequently return? What does the industry think?
The Director' Take: Directors Rahib Siddiqui and Waseem Sabir disagree. While the former feels it may be a little difficult to start afresh once more, the latter clearly tells us it makes no difference and quotes the example of Actor Barun Sobti who according to him is managing both comfortably at this moment.
When an actor makes an exit from a show permanent or temporary the storyline takes a complete toss as various changes have to be made to the existing set up. There is a disruption in the flow of a sequence. So what does a story-writer think about an actor's shift?
A Writer's Word: Gautam Hedge who is an established Screenplay Writer for Television with shows like Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, Navya, Miley Jab Hum Tum and Is Pyar ko Kya Naam Doon to his credit says .. "I don't think the industry has any personal grudge against anyone and it would be silly to have a crab mentality. If a person has a dream and gets an opportunity to fulfil it, I think there is nothing wrong in him or her taking a plunge, provided his prior commitments are taken care of and it's mutually and amicably decided. barun Sobti is doing a film but at the same time he has assured that he will shoot with us after the film and he is a committed actor. It's a matter of pride if film wallas are considering TV people.

Television has proved to be a trampoline for many actors to jump and cease the big Bollywood dream. Be it Shah Rukh Khan, Vidya Balan, Rajeev Khandelwal, Prachi Desai, and latest, Ayushmaan Khurana of Vicky Donor fame. Now, we have learned that Barun Sobti (of Star Plus' Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon) and Kavi Shastri (of Rishta.com fame) will be seen together in a flick called Main Aur Mr Right.
Actress Shenaz Treasurywala is also a part of this romantic comedy. Barun, who climbed great heights of popularity as Arnav Singh Raizada, will be seen as one of the male leads. The plot is about a girl who is on a hunt to find her Mr Right and meets four guys. Kavi Shashtri is also a part of it. He will play the role of Shaunit, a young guy, who is very chilled out and has a laid back attitude in life. The film is being produced by Mad Midas Films and is being directed by Adeeb Riyas. Bappi Lahiri is composing the flick's music.
An elated Kavi Shastri confirmed the news and said, "Yes, I am doing the film. It's a very interesting role and I am very excited to be a part of it. We will start shooting soon."
We got in touch with Barun, but he refused to comment anything. This will be one movie to look out for!!!

The promo dialogue has been changed from:
"aisa kyun hota hai jab koi humse door hojata hai to uski yaad satati hai" to
"Arnavji se yeh duri kyun bechain kar rahai hai" with the same flashback.
It doesn't have the teri meri scene and Khushi's monologue about her missing Arnav. Now it starts from Khushi picking up that call from London.
