Assad Zaman: There’s something about Armand when he’s not being observed that I took [from the books]. I think if you know the books you know that he’s… the specific alien quality about… when you’re in stasis, you’re almost on standby. Statuesque. You’re unable to emote or think anything because everything you do is shaped on either being obsessed with someone, manipulating someone, or trying to survive your trauma in someway. What do those people do when they’re not being observed? The way Anne Rice describes Armand, several times, is sort of this ethereal, alien quality that doesn’t quite feel like it’s… She called it childish, but I don’t see it as childish. I see it more as like an alien that’s unable to understand himself, his own needs[?], only able to play a part. So when there’s no one to see them, they kind of just go a little bit dead, soulless, that kind of thing. That’s something that I took on, tried to.
once I snorted a fat line of nuance and everything started depending. watch out
#the beauty of tumblr is that any new show i start i'm able to say oh that's my friend. from gif.

the concept of naim and ryan actually communicating their feelings and being fully honest with one another but it’s only to the other’s entity counterpart makes me so sickkkkk. the screen door scene stays on my mind because wdym naim verbally opens up about his fears and feelings that led to him outing ryan and hunter, and he’s saying it to ryan’s face but not to the real ryan, not to his ryan. just imagine how that conversation would’ve gone if it were between naim and actual ryan; if naim had the chance to explain himself, if ryan had the opportunity to understand the why and naim’s honest perspective which could coat the whole situation with a bit of understanding instead of his initial anger. and maybe it’s easier to spill his guts because naim knows the ryan on the other side of his door isn’t the real one, but regardless it kills me how the most important conversations are held with the fake versions of the other ☹️
Having a traumatic childhood means you cannot talk even objectively about your basic foundational experiences without it being "venting", even if you're not actually venting. You just straight up have a huge chunk of your life you can't talk about, full stop, without it being trauma dumping.
And it not being socially acceptable to talk about your own childhood is super alienating. Sometimes people want to know why, and any answer you can give them is going to be off putting.
It's to the point I get irritated when something I said is framed as venting when I'm literally just talking about my life experiences, doing my best to keep emotion out of it.
when I was in high school, I overheard two older students talking about a friend of theirs.
One of them said something like, "it doesn't bother me that [Friend] was in residential mental health treatment, I just wish they wouldn't talk about it ALL the time".
The other replied, "Well, that was all of last year for them. So when they say 'when I was in treatment,' it's like when you say 'last year'."
I try to remember that any time someone says something that sounds Shocking to me. sometimes one person's scary special crisis is another person's last year.
If you want to be accepting of mental illness, you need to accept the fact that some people's everyday lives are going to be terrifying to you. That doesn't mean they don't get to talk about it. Stop forcing hurt, isolated people to become even MORE hurt and isolated because you can't fathom toughening up a bit.
