everyone needs to read madhouse at the end of the earth because there's insanely comedic things happening e.g. the doctor of the expedition deciding to sleep on the ice fifty yards from the ship to test his resistance to cold and then the captain saw him from where he's standing on the ship and thought he was a seal and was this 🤏 close to shooting him with a rifle but was like "hold on a minute. the seal doesn't seem like it's going anywhere. jupiter's moon io is though." and chose to look at that to calibrate their chronometer first before shooting the seal (read: the goddamn doctor) but he was so happy of his success at calibrating their chronometer that he decided not to shoot the seal (read: still the doctor, who was now frozen in his sleeping bag) like idk man what's not to like about this book/expedition
