Cuddles in without regard for personal space as she throws a leg over Bee's. "Don't leave me like that again, I'll burn down everything if you do."

Plays with a loose thread on Bee's uniform shirt. She was tempted to tug it free and possibly unravel more in the process, but she knew how fussy the other could be about her clothes. "Can I at least buy you some casual clothes? You can't always be in uniform- what if I spill food on you?"

Does Rose really have to fuss with the loose thread? Bad enough that it’s there, let alone if she tugs it free even more.

Wait. Casual clothes? “Why do I need casual clothes? The uniform is comfortable enough. ... and I can get it dry-cleaned if you do spill food.” More like when Rose spilled food, but that didn’t need to be mentioned.

Breaking away with a huff, Rapier lifted a hand to Bee’s bicep and gave the muscle a solid squeeze. “You are strength. Even strength needs respite.” Oh how she wished her sister in arms could see herself through their eyes. There was a dutiful honor and critical self-reflection in Bee’s vision of herself but never enough kindness. The younger pleaded silently with her, eyes a soft glimmer that held a small prayer of hope emphasised by the placement of clasped hands over her chest. “Please let me protect you.” Even a weapon needed defending and none so more than the ones with fortified hearts.

‘I don’t deserve you’ -  It was a thought often in Buster’s mind, and one that refused to go away. She had failed not one, but two masters, then the third... It hadn’t been failure of Cloud, so much as him replacing her.

But Zack and Angeal... She had certainly failed them. What did kindness towards herself matter, if she couldn’t protect her masters? There was only so much one woman - one blade - could do, yet one day... it still wouldn’t be enough. One day, one slip, one mistake, and it would be another failure added to the list.

Bee sighed and rested her forehead against Rapier’s shoulder, letting her eyes close. “It’s my job to protect you, not the other way around. You, the other weapons, and our masters. ... but I suppose you can protect me now and then, if you insist on it.”

“What happened to Rapier? I didn’t exactly expect to come back from a holiday to find Angeal snarling and Genesis in a panic.”

“Lovely Bee…” Seifer let out a relieved sigh. Finally. Someone who could help him stay focused and not actually murder the Master of his blade girlfriend.

“Where to begin…” Seifer searched the ground for answers that were steadily piecing together in his mind. Once he had his thoughts together, he finally looked up to the blonde, drawing in a long breath.  

“Genesis feels spurned. I was paid by Sephiroth to have Genesis eat something out the palm of my hand and it worked a little too easily in my favor. This money I was given, is to replace the carpets within Rose’s living room, on account of the fact Genesis showed up, dragged a body inside and left it there to bleed out and die. I disposed of the body, however upon confronting Gen about said deceased, he decides to threaten my relationship with Rose and report to Angeal about me and my…” Seifer couldn’t mince words, “Violent temperament.”

“... you do realise dealing with Genesis is like dealing with a cat, don’t you?” Buster sighed as well, but not in relief. No wonder Angeal had those frown lines. Between dealing with Sephiroth and Genesis, then Zack, and now the weapons and their troubles as well...

Another sigh. “Did you ask why the body had been killed in the first place? Crazy as it sounds, Genesis does normally have a good reason for killing. None of them enjoy it.” Then the bloodied carpet - thankfully replaced - and the issue of Sephiroth paying Seifer... “Please tell me you didn’t call him insane or something when you confronted him.”

“Why are we killing Genesis? You might want to let Rose know so she can prepare a funeral speech.”

Genesis claps his hands together, “Good evening everyone! It is a delight and a pleasure to introduce you to the human boy defiling my lovely Crimson Rapier! I actually have some business to attend to, so have an enjoyable dinner and try not to be too rough with little ol’ Seifer.” With a wave of his hand, the redhead was walking out the door laughing to himself. It was like feeding a scrap to a den of lions.

“Don’t be a shit-stirrer, Genesis. I’ve already spoken with Seifer, and so has Angeal.” The blade is smiling, but there is little friendly emotion in it. “He knows to be on his best behaviour.”

“Yes, he can be… insufferable, at times…” ‘Insufferable’ was Seifer’s way of being polite in new company, “Honestly, he’s hardly a threat. I can handle a few blasts of fire.“

The comment of Rose putting him in a dress was a concern. She had been eyeing his figure a bit too closely as of late. “So…what’s your story? How does one come about to be a ‘personified weapon-turned-human’ form?” Seifer hoped Buster would forgive him for his graceless question, it wasn’t one a human normally had a chance to ask.

“Insufferable is certainly one word.” Not that Buster usually had cause to complain. Genesis tended to save the childish behaviour for others.

“I was forged for my first master, Angeal, back when he joined SOLDIER. He doesn’t know how I was given a human form, and I’ve always assumed it was something done to my blade form while it was being forged.” She chuckled. “It isn’t an offensive question, but... it’s a bit like one of us asking a human how they came to be.

“Swords are forged, and somehow seem to gain a human form. I guess it comes about as a result of our primary function - defend our wielder. A blade can only do that so well.”

“As long as I wear the flower crown and give her money to throw around she’s pretty content with things.” Seifer smiles, “Though, between you and I, I’m about five seconds away from putting her Master in a choke hold.”

“Who, Genesis?” Ah yes, the irresponsible redhead. “Let me guess. He was running his mouth and you got caught up in the verbal crossfire? Angeal usually keeps him on a leash good behaviour. I wouldn’t worry too much, unless he threatens you with a Firaga to the face.

“Don’t let Rose walk all over you, though. You’ll end up in a dress.”

“RRRGH.” Rapier literally growled out, holding Bee tight. It was as if her darling was scared of love and didn’t know how to treat it. “Because you’re very important to me, very few people in my life would have slept on the floor and tolerated my lashing out in the middle of the night without judgement. You’re always looking out for my wellbeing and teaching me new things because you care. You’ve given me kindness and love. How could I not return it?” It was a rhetorical question, but she expected Bee to ignore that.

Buster sighed again. Rapier was always so passionate, especially when it came to defending her family. ... even from themselves. “I don’t do what I do for the perks,” she murmured in reply. “I take my duty of protecting you all seriously. If I can’t protect and provide for my family, then what use am I as a weapon?”

“I love you. You looked like you needed it. There, have two reasons.” she murmured against Bee’s neck with an affectionate nuzzle. The inspiration had struck and she decided to go ahead. Besides, Gaia knew the other sword needed comfort after all the headaches Rapier was responsible for.

I love you. You looked like you needed it. Simple things, but that didn’t lessen Buster’s appreciation for the gesture. She let her eyes close, tilting her head to allow the nuzzle. “You’re sweet. I still don’t understand why, when it’s directed at me.”
