Fucking fuming

Had training today at work which involved partnering up and practising different holds and escape techniques on each other.

Group leader announced ‘some woman’ last year complained about being touched by a man and so we should sit out if we want to. He went on to talk about the ‘state of the world’ at the moment when women are ‘too sensitive’ and the me too movement has ‘gone wild’.

So obviously now I felt uncomfortable sitting out because whole group agreed with him and uncomfortable taking part because strange men grabbing me.

Gaslighting and manipulating a group to join in. So disgusting. And all this in a mental health setting.

This Mental Health Awareness Week I’m going to be super shady and talk about what doesn’t help. Partly because I’m practising saying ‘no’ and partly because of conversations with buddies over the past few days who feel the same but aren’t able to voice it. Listen up ladz: 1) Don’t tell us to go for a run / try mindfulness / light a candle (ad infinitum). Chances are we’ve already tried it and felt more hopeless when it wasn’t a magic cure 2) Don’t give us diet advice. Aside from the impact this could have on those with EDs, it can make us feel like we caused our own condition. 3) Don’t use words that are offensive. I really shouldn’t have to say this but it’s still happening. Just stop throwing around out-dated and prejudiced terms for mental illnesses. 4) Don’t compare our experiences to 'that one time where I …’ if you are neurotypical. Invalidation is the worst.

if you ever try to befriend me and you expect to be in frequent contact with me i am so sorry. i do that with maybe two people and even then i often go days or weeks withouts saying anything before talking daily for a while. 

the point is if we dont talk that doesnt mean i dont like u and think about u a lot im just terrible at maintaining close relationships
