Less Theory, More Fanfic: The Soul Sanctuaries
I'll admit, this is more or less just because I think It would Be Cool for it to be true, but there's enough of a kernel present that I'm willing to share a raw version of it here while I'm still gathering info for other idea.
So, I have an idea for what the final chapters of Deltarune could look like, and it centers around what I think will be the truth behind the shattered prophecy that susie destroyed before we saw it. I believe the final prophecy goes along the lines of "The human gives their soul to another so they may save the day" Why do I say this? Uh.... Other fan theories. Like I said this is more or less just fanon I don't actually put much stake into this other than "it'd be cool". But lets just pretend I'm giving hard evidence for this while I paint why it'd be narrative impactful.
So Basically, whats going to happen is this: There are going to be 3 routes, not just two. The Normal Route (side A) the Weird route (side B) and the aborted weird route (side C) In the Normal route: The roaring still occurs despite the hero's attempt to defy the prophecy, and because of this, Ralsei is frozen in stone. Ralsei is the Darkner for Kris's body, In order to save themselves and Ralsei, Kris sacrifices themselves by giving up their soul, so that Ralsei may be revived as The Dark Prince, and acting as the soul's Dark Sanctuary. With this newfound power, Ralsei seals the Dark World, Permanently severing it from the Light World, and with Kris's soul, is able to keep the dark world illuminated with the soul's light. Ralsei becomes as self sacrificial as possible, basically giving up their own autonomy so that Kris can still live a "normal life" In the Weird Route: Kriselle knight is real. Kris and Noelle "amalgamate" for lack of a better term and Noelle is granted an unbelievable amount of power and becoming the soul's second sanctuary. Noelle is also given revelation about the nature of the world, the Roaring, and the fact that in becoming the Knight, they become essentially permanently bound by destiny as its agent, and are forced to bring about the roaring against their will. In this way, they mirror Spamton, sacrificing everything for the chance at freedom only to realize it was all a scam to begin with, and that they were always destined to be a puppet on strings. In an attempt to make things right, instead of trying to destroy the world, they "preserve" it in Dark crystal, freezing everyone in a state of unchanging darkness. This still causes hometown to be devoured by darkness, but it prevents the roaring from destroying the world. The last route, the "Clopen" Route, is Susies route: Susie Finds out something is deeply wrong during the aborted weird route when Noelle becomes despondent during Chapter 6, Realizing dark worlds weren't a dream, and that Kris refused to act on their promise. Susie confronts Kris about what's going on, and Kris struggles or answer, Ralsei tries to step in and makes things worse. Susie runs off to handle the dark world herself, and is felled by a powerful opponent. Kris sacrifices themselves to revive Susie, causing her to become the 3rd sanctuary, and granting her the power to close the dark world from the light, or the power to cause the roaring. She chooses neither, because they both suck. She's told by Ralsei this is a really bad idea cause it will cause the worse roaring possible, one that could actually rip the earth into pieces, and she doesn't listen. Instead she goes to the edge of the world to gather the other sanctuaries (Noelle and Ralsei from the worlds where they take Kris's soul instead) and comes back to get Kris's body back (the 4rd sanctuary) and finally break the prophecy.
Following up on this: The series of events that would follow would be recruiting all the darkworlders from the normal route to aid us in the fight in the weird route, and from the weird route we'd recruit the lightworlders (who'd be in their dark world versions) to aid in the final battle in the clopen route against the titans.
