Felicia was swift and graceful, much like the animal in her namesake. Brick by brick, she climbed the building until the shadow of someone passing overhead caught her attention. Felicia stopped only for a moment and considered her options. Rather than risk being caught, she swung out and then back in, using the gathered momentum to shatter the glass of one apartment window. She climbed into it and rolled onto her hands and knees, leaving her whip on the flag pole outside. She believed she was home free; all she had to do was find an exit⊠And maybe a few other trinkets she might come across on the way.
The thing is? Kate fucking hates this, itâs just...rude. Thatâs really the only word that can describe it. Stealing a watch is one thing, at worse heâs out a sentimental keepsake and some cash but, Kate sails through the broken window, glass crunching beneath her feet and as suddenly as it had shattered Kate was mad. This was someoneâs home, her boots were heavy and her steps fast. She wouldnât fight to injure, but she wouldnât forget that this thief had no problem letting the cold air break into the house of a family, possibly -- probably someone who didnât have the money to get this place fixed. She resolved to come back and slip money beneath the door, she had no illusions that this was her fault, but she could help and would. She bared her teeth, chasing after the woman through halls, leaping over obstacles in her way, heart pounding, teeth bared, all trace of humor gone. She threw another batarang, another net to catch this woman because this -- this needed to end.
âI do disagree. It would have been very nearly the most interesting thing to happen in this place for weeks. And it might have burned the tinsel and eradicated the man. A sure spectacle of puerility.â
âYou say that but Calendar Man doesnât even make Centralâs weirdest. New York is way worse than Central, the amount of heroes and villains? Ridiculous.â
Well, that was quick. The amount of capes in the city was growing, and irritated Felicia to no end. She didnât turn to the source of the voice. She merely shifted her eyes to regard the red-haired woman who sported the bat-symbol across her chest. âBegging is below me,â the Black Cat replied, âand besides, whereâs the fun in doing things the easy way?â And, with that, she brandished her whip and shot it upward, wrapping it around a flag pole. She began to climb the building in order to get away. âCatch me if you can, pretty bat.â
Kate laughed, loud and carefree and couldnât even get herself to care all too much that it slowed her down, there were jokes begging to be made here, âif this is a game of cat and mouse, you know youâre the mouse here right?â Thatâs not what has her nearly doubling over though, no, itâs not the irony, itâs the flirty air and the skin tight suit and the fucking badtime bdsm whip. And she thought the orange goggles were bad enough, but white hair? Sheâs not bothering to chase her, she knows the way this goes, hell, has seen Batman fall for these tricks more times than she can count, and sheâs not going to lie, the bodysuit? It has her feeling some type of way, but itâs not enough to make her slip up, she repels up the building and makes the roof, watching to see if she tries to give her the slip through a window, something tricky, her batarang splits into a net mid throw, she wants to get this over with.
âIt is a shame, you are right. He weighs much too heavily on mine,â she shuddered involuntarily, âAnd the tinsel is fairly obnoxious. I concede a defeat. There is no upside to the Christmas season in this city.â
âNow thatâs just not true, at least here you donât have Calendar Man trying desperately to pull off a date related heist. I think he tried to set the Christmas tree in the square on fire last year.â
âWhy would anyone worry about vaguely unappealing paper scraps when he is everywhere, on every street corner, begging for money and small children to sit in his lap?â
âItâs a shame that the presence of a fat man in the red suit weighs so much on your conscience.â Kate gave a shit eating grin parroting the womanâs words back to her. âI just donât like the tinsel littering the streets. Go green.â
âWhy not somewhere in the middle? We can call itâNew Yearistmas?â
âNew Yearistmas it is! What are you up to blondie? Tell me you didnât get into too much trouble.â
She snorts a laugh, then grins widely. âOh, fuck yeah, now youâre talking my language. What do you have in mind?â
Kate grinned, and scoffed with a shrug, âI donât know? A putty arrow? Or...thereâs always good old fashioned duct tape and rope?â
âOops,â the leather-clad feline fatale cooed at her target, âlooks like the cat caught your tongue and then some.â
âAnd here I thought Batman was the one with the cat burglar, I hope youâre not expect alleyway make outs, the appeal doesnât run in the family. If I ask pretty please will you give the nice man his watch back, or does this have to get ugly?â
âTragic,â Shiva replied, âthat the presence of the fat man in the red suit weighs so much on your conscience.â
âYour assumption that itâs Santa and not, say, tacky decorations and blinding tinsel says a lot about your mindset.â
âWell, apparently a lot of people have bows and arrows now. And as for a fake, I am far from a fake. Iâm totally real. Like the realest of the real. Feel.â Kate holds her hand out, before realizing that that is not what the other woman meant. âI mean, obviously Iâm real as in like a real person, but Iâm also a real Hawkeye and Iâm just going to stop talking now,â she says, before looking down at the men littering the alleyway.
âUh. Honestly? I hadnât gotten that far yet.â
Kate laughed, relaxing minutely, âwill the real Hawkeye please stand up?â She grinned âhey real person, real Hawkeye, Iâm thinking we make it a bit hard for these guys to get up and call New Yorkâs finest, what dâyou say?â
âYeah, butâChristmas.â
âIs this booze late Christmas celebration, or early New Years? And do I care? Christmas is only fun if you get to party.â
At the surrendering gesture, Kate lowers her bow, swinging it around her back. She grins, placing her hands on her hips. âYeah? Well, as you can see,â she pauses, gesturing behind her, âI am also in the protection business. Iâm Hawkeye.â She holds out her hand, the other adjusting the sunglasses on her face.
âHawkeye, yeah, the bow didnât tip me off to that at all, but hey, what do I know, you could just be a very convincing fake.â Kate eyes the prone people littering the pavement with a small smile, âthat was some shooting Tex, so, whatâs step 2 of the plan here?â
âConsider this: taking down Christmas decorations after Christmas since we already have to deal with them for most of November. Just an idea for stores to ponder.â
âNo worries, Iâve got this one.â
âExcuse me.â
A punch here, a high kick there, an arrow into the shoulder of the man thatâs farther away. And then sheâs standing there, breathing heavily as she stares down at the bodies surrounding her. Itâs quiet for a moment, before she hears the sounds of footsteps. It sets her on edge and sheâs swinging around, training her arrow on the person.Â
But thankfully, they donât look like theyâre going to cause her harm, causing her to lower her bow just slightly. âWhat, never seen a girl weilding a bow and arrow before? Youâve seen The Hunger Games, right?â She jokes, keeping a watchful eye on the person. Even if they look harmless, sheâs not going to let her guard down.
Kate grinned, raising her hands in the classic position of surrender and raised her eyebrows at the girl in front of her. âHavenât seen any recently, in real life no, but I was more admiring the way you took those guys down, canât help it, Iâm in the protection business.â
Cassandra glided to the top of the stairs with no problem. They were both heroes of the night, they couldâve probably jumped over all of them with a running start. Cassandra followed the older woman inside and began to look around, noticing the high ceiling first. âWow.â She took a breath in as she marveled at the art work. âThis is amazing.â There was a bubbling sensation in Cassâs stomach that she only rarely felt when she was excited. She nodded to Kate, giving her a big smile.
Kate grinned, eyeing the tall pillars and the stone arches, the clean off-white of the walls and just how large the place was, everything seemed to echo and nothing was ever quiet. âIâm glad you like it, come on!â She grinned, practically skipping ahead of Cass, turning around to face her and walking backwards, a jump in her step, she trusted herself not to bump into someone, even like this. âOkay, we have options, greeco-roman or renaissance?â
