Come in your Sherlockian and/or Halloween finest and enjoy dinner, music, parlor games, magic, fortune telling, an appearance by Holmes and Watson themselves in an exclusive sketch, a quiz on general Sherlockian knowledge (with prizes!) and a costume contest (with prizes!)— a jam packed evening for $35.

The costume contest categories are: Best Traditional Sherlockian, Best Modern Sherlockian, Most Creative, and Scariest so get to work on something impressive! Any era, any adaptation. Does not even have to be inspired by Sherlockian. No weapons, sharp objects or candles and make sure you can move around a crowd easily in your finery.

All Holmes’ Eve is taking place Saturday October 25th at 7PM in a private residence in Brentwood. The address will be made available on Brown Paper Tickets. You must have a ticket to attend and we expect to fully sell out so don’t dawdle. Find our event pages on Facebook and Meetup.

"The film will be restored for viewing by European and American audiences, under the supervision of film restorer and SFSFF Board President Robert Byrne, who said, “‘It’s an amazing privilege to work with these reels that have been lost for generations. William Gillette’s Sherlock Holmes has ranked among the holy grails of lost film and my first glimpse of the footage confirms Gillette’s magnetism. Audiences are going to be blown away when they see the real Sherlock Holmes on screen for the first time.’"

According to the Cinematheque, “[This] is a complete nitrate duplicate that, to date, appears to be unique. Originally intended for the French operations, it contains duplicate French intertitles, and annotations of hues. The latter feature is still surprising because Essanay films have rarely been exploited in color in the United States. It seems therefore plausible that color version was created specifically for France. [The duplicate]  is currently being restored by the French Cinematheque digital and the San Francisco Silent Film Festival, an organization with which we have restored American films of our collections for 2 years now. This restoration is made ​​possible through the generous support of individuals who are passionate about Sherlock Holmes.”

Sherlockian Watchalongs: October Schedule

Always 1895? No way! It’s always 1985(ish) this month as we take a trip through the Sherlockian 80s.

Here’s the deal: If you like Sherlock Holmes and you’re reading this post, you’re welcome to join us in The Giant Chat of Sumatra to watch and chat with us. We don’t take anything too seriously, so you don’t need to be a Holmes scholar or budding cinematographer. Just find a copy of the episode or movie we’re watching, and come make some goofy internet friends.

Wednesday, October 1, 8:30 pm US Eastern time (convert time) Double Feature: Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson and Alfred Hitchcock Presents We’ll kick off the month with two 1980s reboots of 1950s shows. We’ll watch a chatters’ choice episode of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson (not to be confused with the almost-identically-named Soviet version) which was made at the very start of the 80s, then jump to the end of the decade for the My Dear Watson episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. (Available on YouTube: 1 & 2.)

We’re hard at work planning a Halloween event with the Sherlock Breakfast Club and the Curious Collectors of Baker Street for a costume party extravaganza. Use your imagination to dress yourselves as any character from any incarnation of Sherlock Holmes, from Victorian era to modern day. There will be games, contests, food, fun, and prizes.
