Gambit
By KeyeskeKara
Johnny couldn't take his eyes off of the meat as it sizzled in the pan, and it took everything in him to not let his face twist with disgust as he raised his eyebrows. "This isn't, like, a roadkill situation, is it?"
"how many gator's you seen on da side a' da road in New York, Johnny?"
Scott didn't wipe the look off of his face, even at Remy got more defensive over his cajun cuisine as the seconds ticked by. "I'm looking at you like you're trying to talk to me about eating gator instead of everything going on."
"mon ami, you aint gotta off button--you know dat? sometime a man need a off button." remy sighed and set the pan aside, killing the heat on the stove. he turned to face scott, swinging the towel from one shoulder to the other. scott never did know how to relax.
"I got a handful of orphan kids sleepin' upstairs, some kinda monster huntin' 'em down, and a wife with super strength who gotta knack for punchin'-first-askin'-later --sue me if i been a lil occupied."
"Was there somethin' specific you needed from lil ol' me?"
Lorna wasn't trying to hide her disdain. She eyed the man — and his food — warily. "Yeah, I know what they say. People say a lot of shit, though. I would be dead if I just went along with everything that people say."
"it's a fried piece a' gator, cher. eat it, don't--more for me 'den."
"No I'm not." Jean was quick to reply. She had never had gator before. Growing up in Upstate New York, the food options hadn't been the most exciting. She'd been away from home a long time, but her parents had never been heavy on the seasoning. "I am fully willing to try it before I potentially knock it."
"most people like it. it really don't taste like chicken, but it aint all dat different from chicken, neither. " it was a difficult flavor to explain, alligator wasn't fishy or gamey, but it also couldn't quite pass for chicken to a refined palette.
remy put some on a plate for jean and slid it over.
"won't hurt my feelin's none if y'don't." he shrugged. "--you want hot sauce?"
"I do not actually know what a gator is. If I'm looking at you like you're weird, that may be why. You have my apologies, though. Being rude was not my intention."
"...did you wanna try some? i can share."
Love this
seeing those cats again was the highlight of my day
uncanny x-men #4
modern gambit has two concerns and those are 1.) wife and 2.) cats. I love it
"Ah know for a fact that yer not asking me that, swamp rat." Rogue retorted, already attempting to make herself useful by pouring two drinks. How mundane it felt to be bickering about gator. How simple. Simplicity had never been their friend before. "Don't make 'em too dark."
Remy smirked at the request--no, instruction. Rogue had always known what she liked, it was one of the many qualities he loved about her.
"I know how you like 'em, cher." he replied warmly. Though his back was turned so he could turn everything around in the oil, the smile was evident in his voice. When they started turning the right golden color, he took them out to drain and cool and then made Rogue a plate. Remy set it down in front of her on the bar before he made his own and sat beside her. "Golden enough for you?" he kissed her temple and nudged Lucifer away from his plate as the cat hopped up on the counter and tried to steal a piping hot fried piece of gator. "It's got ta' cool down first, couyon." Remy muttered, picking the cat up and gently returning him to the floor. He would no doubt repeat this action six to eight times before he finished his plate.
