Uhmm Charlotte is turning seven years old and it's the very first extermination. Shenanigans ensue. Under the READ MORE!!!
ok bye
Charlotte Morningstar was a brave child.
When other children would run and cry upon seeing an insect scuttle over, Lottie would gently scoop it up into her paws to safely place it somewhere else. If her hair had gotten tangled, she could stay very still as her father ran the brush through her locks with not even a peep. Yes, she was very brave, proud of it too.
“Dad, what’s an… uh- exteer-min-ation?”
Lucifer raised a brow, looking down at the small face of his daughter.
“How do you know that word?”
“I heard you talk to Satin-”
“Satan.”
“Satan! I knew that. I heard you talk to him on the phone about it!”
A laugh left her father’s throat, glancing to the crayon drawing she was currently working on. The pair of them holding hands- disgustingly sweet.
“My own daughter, an eavesdropper. Well, no matter. You’d have to know eventually. It would be impossible to hide something of this magnitude for long…”
He sat Lottie beside him on the plush sofa, hands politely on her lap as she listened.
“A year from now, angels from heaven will come down here to get rid of some of the sinners for overpopulation reasons.”
“They’re taking them somewhere?”
“Ah, no. Charlotte, they’ll be dead.”
Lottie covered her mouth, shrinking back. The one thing she was really scared of. Death. The ultimate end.
“What? But- wh-”
“Oh, there’s nothing to worry about. It’s only the sinners who will die. No hellborns. That means you.”
The sinners, her people. She didn’t want sinners to die. But it wasn’t like she could just say that to her father who only ever spoke about their people with vitriol in his tone. So instead she meekly asked;
“What…. about you?”
Lucifer let out another laugh, an odd glint in his eye that hardly brought Lottie comfort.
“Nothing can hurt me. Especially not an angel.”
With that, he reached over to pat her head. That ever-present smile plastered on his face.
“Now, why don’t you go back to your little drawing? You have such a knack for this art thing, you know.”
A year later, Lottie had mostly forgotten about that conversation with her father. Her day had gone by as it did usually. Homework finished, dinner eaten, bath taken. Now she was ready for bed, armed with the most dangerous weapon known to man; a stuffed animal, a bear with a green bow adorning it’s neck – A gift from Mammon the day she was born. There was a time she was never seen without it, like a security blanket of sorts. But as she got older she deemed to leave it on her bed, she was brave after-all.
Lottie crawled under the covers, her father fast behind her to tuck her in, humming a quiet tune which Lottie recognised, slapping a paw on his face.
“Daaad! My birthday’s /tomorrow!/ You can’t sing that yet!”
“Of course, of course. Goodness, it seems like yesterday you fit perfectly in my hands. That silly bear used to be bigger than you. Now you’ll be turning… ah… what was it again…?”
He tapped his chin in mock thought, Lottie giggled and slapped her other paw onto his face.
“Seven! I’ll be seven!”
“Ohhh, right. Thank you Charlotte. Bright as always. Now tell me, what will we be doing? Shall we have a party?”
“Yes!! With Belphie and Mammon and Ozzie and Satin-”
“Satan.”
“Satan! I want everyone there! Will they come?”
“I don’t think I could stop them, honestly. You will have a brilliant birthday, I’m sure.”
He took Lottie’s paws off of his face, placing them back on her bear. His gaze soft and filled with something akin to love.
“But now it is time to rest, do you need a story to help you get to sleep?”
Lottie shook her head, nuzzling under the covers with a sleepy sigh.
“I’m too big for stories.”
Lucifer stifled a laugh, moving towards the door.
“My mistake, of course. Sweet dreams, Charlotte.”
“Goodnight…”
A few hours later, Lottie awoke.
Thirsty, she needed some water. She rubbed her eyes, looking around. It was dark, very dark. Not that she was scared of the dark! She wasn’t scared of anything.
…
She grabbed her bear and held it close to her chest. For warmth, of course. She went to kick the covers off when her ear twitched, catching a sound that didn’t belong there.
The thrum of a heartbeat.
She froze, that wasn’t hers. Her father would have made himself known already, so it couldn’t be his. Whoever this was. Whoever was in her room right now. They were staying quiet on purpose.
She squinted her eyes, scanning the room, desperately trying to find a silhouette. Nothing. The darkness was hardly helping in her search. She bit her tongue and slowly eased herself back onto her pillow, bringing the blankets up to her chin and screwing her eyes shut. Maybe if she stayed very still, whoever was there would leave.
There was a soft click from the other side of her room, the distinct sound of her wardrobe being opened from the inside. Lottie didn’t move.
Then, the creak of the floorboard as someone made their way across the room, stopping every few steps, as if checking to see if Lottie stirred, she kept herself completely still save for the subtle tightening of her grip on her bear.
...
At her bedside now. The stench of metal filling her nose.
The sudden coldness of a hand on her shoulder caused her eyes to shoot open, a figure was stood over her dressed in white robes tinged in red, brown wings spread wide from behind their back and another pair covering their eyes, a soft glow emanating around their form. The golden halos circling their head being the brightest source of light.
An angel?
She’d never seen an angel before, but she knew generally what they looked like. This was an angel, no doubt about that. Why were they here?
“H...hello?”
“Oh. You’re awake. Well. That’ll make this slightly harder.”
She tilted her head, the angel raised their free hand and Lottie’s eyes followed suit to see an object within their grasp. Was that a blade-
“Oh Rasbriel, don’t tell me heaven’s become depraved enough to send angels after sleeping children?”
Both heads turned to the door, her father was there, leaning against the door frame like he didn’t have a care in the world but his tone held barely disguised malice.
“Funny how you never mentioned you had a child, Morningstar.”
The cherub now known as Rasbriel replied, attention now completely diverted to the man in the doorway. Lucifer sighed and leaned against the wall for support, slowly shuffling towards the pair. How he wished he’d grabbed his crutches before he came here.
“I never mentioned it because it wasn’t important to our deal.”
“Heaven disagrees.”
“Oh? A lone cherub speaks for all of heaven now?”
Rasbriel advanced towards Lucifer, blade pointed towards his form.
“/You/ led a war that nearly ripped heaven apart, I’d be doing a disservice to my people to allow another Morningstar to live. You said we could not harm you or any hellborn, but you said nothing about your daughter. She is, ah…”
They twirled their blade, now pointing it towards Lottie with an amused smile.
“Fair game?”
Lucifer’s nose crinkled in disgust, stepping in-between his Lottie and Rasbriel.
“She /is/ hellborn.”
“And she /is/ a Morningstar. That takes priority over our deal.”
Closer now, Lucifer looked over to Lottie, her blonde hair just like his, those shiny eyes unaware of the true extent of cruelty in his realm. A babe innocent and soft which all seemed to smile upon. His daughter, shaking in her bed as an angel held a blade over her. He ignored the strange pang he felt in his chest, hardening his gaze as he turned back to Rasbriel.
“You’re really going to murder a child just because she is mine?”
“Any offspring you create are far too dangerous to live. If I don’t end her now, who’s to say she won’t be the one leading the next war when she’s older?”
Heaven’s paranoia over Lucifer had no bounds, apparently. If one could see a small sleeping child and immediately assume the worst just because she shared blood with him was anything to go by. Funny how that worked, heaven took all Lucifer had and then some and now they wanted to take the only person in this cesspit he held close. When would they be satisfied?
Rasbriel sneered at him, feathers ruffled.
“You are destructive by nature. It only makes sense your spawn would be the same. All of you fallen are the exact same. Fools with delusions of grandeur, just as your daughter will be too.”
Lucifer kept his focus on the cherub, a sly grin finding it’s way on his face. Finding it nigh impossible to not gloat just a little bit.
“Is it delusion if I can back it up tenfold?”
“Can you?”
He is pushed back, causing Lucifer to let go of the wall and lose his balance but he barely has time to process what’s happening as the cherub closes the distance between them with a frightening speed. They smash the hilt of the blade hard against his sternum, taking the air out of his lungs as he’s left coughing with ragged breath.
“He-hey! Let my dad go! Let him ghhk-!”
Lottie tries to stand up on her bed to assist, but Rasbriel is quick to use one of their wings to lay her flat on the bed, immobilizing her.
“Don’t worry, spawn of Morningstar. I’ll get to you very soon.”
The cherub assures her,
Lucifer struggles to stand, grabbing the frame of the bed with shaky hands to prop himself back to his feet. Rasbriel tsks at the sight.
“Really? THIS is what everyone is so scared of? Some weak old man who can’t even stand by himself? You could barely make the trip from the door to the bed without clinging to the wall like a whelp and what? I’m meant to feel… threatened?”
They grabbed a fistful of Lucifer’s shirt to slam him against the wall with such force it left a deep crack running up the wallpaper. Wings on their face unfurling to show one giant eye, sharp and piercing.
“Down here you’re respected. Up there you are feared, but to me? You are a pathetic joke. To hell with our original arrangement. I’m killing you right here and I’ll make your wretched child watch as the life fades from your eyes.”
Lucifer feels the all too familiar coldness of steel against his neck, as he tries to pull away Rasbriel only moves closer. Lottie thrashes under their wing but to no avail, she is but a helpless spectator to all that was unfolding.
“You’re really… so deluded to think… you can kill me? I am Her favourite son, and you are... nobody.”
Lucifer breathes out. Rasbriel could nearly laugh at the insanity of that remark, an incredulous look on their face.
“Were. You /were/ Her favourite. That was before you decided you knew better than Her. That was before you rebelled against Paradise itself. That was before you dragged a handful of your own down with you who were FOOLISH enough to follow your command. Now? Now you are a shrivelled egotistical husk of what you once were, wasted potential incarnate. She hates you. She hates you for all you’ve done. Morningstar, you are nobody and you have no-one.”
His head shoots up and an unidentifiable look floats over Lucifer’s face. Those coal black eyes look right through Rasbriel and into their soul with precision. He feels a slight give of pressure from his neck, Rasbriel guffaws with false bravado but the tremble in their hands defies them.
“Wh-what’s this you’re doing now? Trying to size me up? It won’t do you any good. In case you forgot, I have you at knifepoint. What could you possibly do like this?”
Suddenly extremely thankful for Lottie’s refusal to clean up her toys before bed, with the space permitted, Lucifer is able to quickly grab a big toy car and smashes it against Rasbriel’s skull. The angel stumbles back and receives a sucker-punch to the jaw. They fall beside Lottie’s bed and try to get back up but they find themselves slumping back down. As if their legs just wouldn’t obey, the blade tumbles out of their seizing hands.
“Wh-what? Why can’t I move?”
“It’s… funny how Heaven calls /me/ prideful…” Lucifer smiles as he catches his breath, kneeling down to be eye to eye with Rasbriel, pushing some of their hair out of their face.
“And yet they didn’t think to protect their angels from Hell’s toxic air. Look at you, no armour or face covering. This whole time you’ve been breathing it in, it’s been killing you and you haven’t known.”
Rasbriel stares up at Lucifer’s face and it hits them. They never once had the upper hand in this altercation, Lucifer was just waiting for their body to catch up to that fact.
“Wait, the others… are they-”
They are interrupted by bloody phlegm fighting it’s way out of their throat, Lucifer barely reacts to it. An unphased look on his face.
“Oh that’s right, you came down here with others to carry out the extermination. I believe that they’ll be back in heaven at this point. Poor things, they were foolish enough to have followed you and now they’ll die. Scared and confused, at least they wont be alone. You on the other hand…”
He slowly circles the angel, like a lion would to weakened prey. Relishing in the way any remaining confidence was washed away. The muffled sound of Lottie still struggling under Rasbriel’s wing caught his attention, poor thing. He’ll sort this out for her, as a good father should. He grabbed hold of the wing, nails sinking through feather and touching bone.
“What are you-”
And started to pull.
And /pull./
Tendons slowly separating and ripping and Rasbriel felt all of it, choking out pained sobs. Yet Lucifer didn’t stop, seemingly relishing in the agony. Finally, the wing is removed from their bleeding form and is thrown to the side, leaving a bloody stump in it’s wake. Lottie was saying something, but it was tuned out, staring down at the dying angel.
“It really didn’t have to end this way you know. If you had just done your job you would have been able to die up there with all your little friends.”
He lifts them up by a fistful of their hair, so that they were eye to eye.
“But you had to try and kill my daughter.”
The angel wheezes and chokes out a laugh despite the situation they were in, wiping blood from the corners of their mouth.
“You really expe-expect me to believe… you love her? You don’t love anyone...except yourself.”
A low hum leaves Lucifer’s throat, his grip on the angel’s hair tightening.
“She is mine.”
He responded simply, before separating Rasbriel’s head from their body in a swift, bloody motion. Their headless form slumps down, hitting the floor with a heavy thump. Lucifer drops their expressionless head and kneels down, placing a hand on-top of their chest. Digging into the flesh and separating ribs until he found what he was looking for, ripping it out of their body with a proud grin. An ethereal glowing ball that seemed to shift to and fro in his grip. The soul of Rasbriel. The glow dulled the longer it was within his grasp. Not that it mattered.
“Wouldn’t want you coming back now, would we?”
Devouring the divine like it was nothing more than a particularly ripe fruit. His nose crinkled at the familiar flavours settling on his tongue. An angelic soul was bound to remind him of his old home; he was less than thrilled to have the unwanted nostalgia.
“W...wahhh…”
A soft whimper pulls him out of his thoughts and he turns his attention to the bed. A terrified Charlotte stared back at him, shaking like a leaf.
“…?”
Lucifer was confused, he’d gotten rid of the angel. What was she so scared of? Was it the sheer viscera? He got back on his feet and slowly made his way over to her bed. He sat on the edge and outstretches a hand to her, she shrinks back.
“Come now. Why are you frightened? It’s over now. They aren’t able to hurt you.”
He killed a person in front of her. Lottie’s dad /beheaded/ and killed a person in front of her. Was it any wonder why she was frightened? He had done it so easily too, ripping wings like they were made of paper. Snuffing a life was just second nature to him, wasn’t it? Was that what was expected of her? Did she have to do that? She didn’t want to. She didn’t want to be unaffected by death like her father.
But of course, she couldn’t say any of that. Instead she mumbled out a quiet:
“You got hurt. That angel hit you re-really hard. An- and- they wanted to hurt me and I was really scared and I thought you weren’t gonna show up and-”
Lottie starts to sob. Curling in on herself and clinging to her knees. Lucifer stares through her for a moment before setting a hand on the top of her head.
“I apologize I couldn’t get to you faster, my legs aren’t… what they used to be.”
Neither were his wings but that was a particularly sore subject for him.
“But I promise you, as long as I still draw breath. No harm will ever come to you.”
He ever so gently held her face, wiping her tears away with his thumbs- unintentionally smearing blood on the apples of her cheeks which made her wince.
“Oh- goodness. What a bad start to your birthday. You shouldn’t cry on your special day.”
He murmured, scooping Charlotte up into his arms and she instinctively rested her head on his shoulder, her face buried in his golden curls. He promised he’d never let harm come to her, and she believed him. His tail wrapped around hers in a protective motion, slowly moving out of the room, away from the horrors.
“Can I sleep in your room…? I don’t… I don’t wanna sleep here right now…”
“Of course. But first, we will clean up. I don’t suppose you want to nap covered in blood, hm?”
His attempt of a joke, she laughs through her tears and shakes her head.
“Nuh-uh. I don’t wanna be gross. You shouldn’t be gross either! Yucky.”
Lucifer smiled, resting a hand on top of Charlotte’s head.
“Yucky indeed…”
For a moment, it was easy to forget all that had happened. Until Charlotte peaked over Lucifer’s shoulder to see her beloved bear soaking in angel blood. She must have dropped it in the panic.
“My bear…”
“Hm?
He glanced back.
“Oh. Your bear… No worries. It’s only fabric. Easily cleaned. Then you’ll have your sleeping buddy back.”
“I don’t think I wanna anymore...”
“Awfully brave of you.”
Charlotte stayed silent at that, Lucifer merely assumed that she was too tired to respond and left it at that.
Soon enough, she was under her father’s covers. The blood of the cherub washed clean and in some new pyjamas. The recent events just cycling through her head on loop and the awareness that they were subjecting the human souls to that kind of torment without care. She tightly screwed her eyes shut and nestled deeper into the thick furs surrounding her. Eventually she’ll sleep. Eventually she’ll be fine.
I want to share this because the first time I saw this made me chuckle, and it's true! God forbid we have lesbians/sapphics be outwardly attracted to women in the Hellaverse.
