My 13th reason why is that Heathcliff is racially ambiguous but in the sense that he is NOT WHITE!!! In the sense that his EXACT ethnicity or race is not mentioned(He's likened to a chinese, Indian, Romani;etc) but it's very obvious and literally mentioned that he is POC and most of his struggle comes from being POC which means that THEY COULD HAVE CAST ANY PERSON WHO IS NOT WHITE JUST SOMEONE WHO IS POC WHICH IS LITERALLY LIKE MAJORITY OF THE WORLD but Emerald Fennell still decided to choose the white man to play Heathcliff.

And it bothers me so much that people justify this film by using the 'he's racially ambiguous' argument like DID WE READ THE SAME BOOK? Man gets called so many racial slurs and they think he's white.

Like as a POC myself it hurts so much because it is so hard to find complex representation. Nowadays, so many times there are flat, one sided representations. The reason why we yearn for diversity in media is because we always historically had such little representation and when there is finally one that already existed and was from the fucking Victorian era(where most of the time even when we are mentioned we are barely seen as human let alone being considered understandable which is important because that's why Emily Bronte writing him as POC is so impactful and powerful) we are stripped away from that representation.

It just makes me see red that even after all these years we are still whitewashing POC characters. Like I don't understand what was going on in Emerald Fennell's head. Are we just not good enough for her?

WHY DOES NO ONE TELL YOU ABT THE EFFECT HAMLET HAS ON A PERSONNNNN.

I've been in a chokehold for DAYSSSS. Everything reminds me of Hamlet. Everywhere I look I see a Hamlet reference rahhh. I have to pick A level subjects this year and found out we get to do Hamlet and now I'm like screaming out of joy. Anyways my school has a Halloween event and I think I'm going to go as Hamlet. So....I need to ask the question of the lifetime so I can pick out a wig.
