You're wrong on so many counts about Spider.
Spider was raised Na'vi, first of all. He is not a Sky Person, he didn't come from the sky. He has more in common with Na'vi kids than human kids. He was born and raised on Pandora, he is as much Eywa's child as any born Na'vi.
Second of all, Neytiri is the ONLY one who rejects Spider. The Sully kids have always accepted him. None of the Omatikaya have ever shunned him. The Metkayina never made a fuss about him being there. The Tlalim even have fun with him.
But even if they did, you know who Ronal also rejected at first? Kiri and Lo'ak for having demon blood. Are they any less Na'vi because she says so? Hell, Kiri is a clone of an Avatar, she doesn't even have Na'vi blood like Lo'ak does. The only thing making her Na'vi is that she was born into it, and so was Spider.
And when has Spider ever forced himself into anything? If anything, he tries his best not to make trouble for Jake and Neytiri and never lashes out when they treat him like he's other.
You Spider haters are seriously media illiterate. Watch the damn movies before you make these dumb statements.
I never said that I hate Spider, first of all. He’s a kid and gets some grace for that. But he’s not Na’vi, plain and simple. He was raised by the science guys at the lab, as stated in the first movie he appeared in. Playing with the Sully kids makes sense, but Na’vi culture isn’t his culture. Being raised next to a culture and having friends in that culture doesn’t mean that it’s *your* culture. He was raised on Pandora and around the Na’vi but he was raised by humans.
Lo’ak and Kiri are an entirely separate thing because they were actually raised in the clan. Kiri was adopted and Lo’ak is half Na’vi. And I don’t really like how that was handled in the movie. As an Indigenous person myself, it’s painfully obvious that the script was written by a white man trying to translate Indigenous issues and experiences. It’s overall rather bad writing and leans into the whole ‘white savior’ trope that they did with Jake too. Jake is a whole separate rant but it just feels like they’re trying to make Spider and Kiri into Jake and Neytiri 2.0 and it’s not done well. Spider could be a good character if he wasn’t so poorly written as this odd not Na’vi but sike! He is or whatever.
Also, I hate how they made Eywa into a more concrete ‘god’ figure rather than the interconnected nature network that was established in the first movie. It’s like they took the concept of the Great Spirit and morphed it into a more Christian like god figure and it makes it weird. Also, Kiri having a special relationship with Eywa had the potential to be interesting but I felt that it was ruined by them making it give her weird superpowers like some kind of incarnation of Eywa similar to how Jesus is to God in some Christian mythology.
Also, calling me stupid because I feel uncomfortable with the writing of a movie obviously meant to parallel Indigenous cultures (obviously not one to one but you can see the influence) and disagreeing with my analysis of a fictional character is incredibly immature. I’m Indigenous and that’s gonna affect how I view these characters and I have plenty of criticism about the whole franchise. It’s just not written that well, in my opinion.
TLDR: The character of Spider bothers me, as an Indigenous woman, because it’s written poorly. Leans too far into the white savior trope that they barely passed with Jake and even then… anyway, I’m ragging on bad writing, not on a literal child. Calm down.
