“Thank you.” Skyler said softly, before watching the doctor leave. Releasing a shaky breath, he tried not to focus too much on the man’s words, chosing to stay optimistic. Jaime would get through this, he had to. Sky couldn’t even start to imagine how his life would be without him, it hurt too much. 

Turning to Ariel as she spoke, the model sent her a small smile. “Thank you for saying that, Ari. But I shouldn’t have been the one deciding. I mean, we’re not married anymore.” It hurt to say that out loud, but he’d have to get used to it. 

“Maybe not...but you are still the person that knows him best. And we all want what’s best for him. I didn’t think it was that hard of a decision, even if Jaime might not like it right away.” she reassured him. “I’ve been trying to convince him for months to get checked out again and he refused. He’s stubborn and it’s not like I can drag him all the way here. Maybe-” although she couldn’t every well say it out loud, she saw it as a blessing in disguise. “C’mon lets sit.” she told him, but before they could move an inch, Wendy and Diana came running in. “Where is he? Where’s my son?” Diana asked.

Skyler was at a loss for words as the doctor stopped talking. The reality that he could lose Jaime if he made a wrong decision hitting him hard. How could he make such a difficult choice on the spot? Looking up at Ariel, the model tried to get anything from her expression. A sign of what he should do. The teen really wished Jaime’s moms were there with them too to help make his decision, but since they weren’t and the doctor had said it was a time sensitive matter, he knew he’d have to do this on his own. “D-do the surgery.” He finally replied, eyes starting to tear up again. Deep down, Sky knew it wasn’t what Jaime would’ve wanted but the doctor had said that if they didn’t do the surgery, they could still risk interfering with the tumor. He feared that could make things even worse. “But please, please, do your best out there.” He asked, letting the tears fall. 

“Very well. We’ll try to being you updates whenever we can, but...I think you should prepare yourself for whatever might happen.” He wouldnt be a good doctor if he let skyler get his hopes up and not understand that this was a high risk surgery where any number of complications could arise. And with that he left to go back into the OR. 

Ariel watched him walk away, tears swelling up in her eyes again. “I would’ve picked the same thing.” she told the teen. “You’re giving him the best chance at beating this, and I know our moms will agree.”

“Don’t worry, I was trying hard to be strong and keep from crying but well that didn’t go as planned.” Skyler said in a soft tone as they sat together. He felt powerless, just sitting there and waiting for a doctor to walk by. Time passed slowly, minutes feeling more like hours. Sky was sure those had been the longest minutes of his life. Getting up as Ariel did, the model held her left handin his to offer some comfort as they listened to the doctor. Hearing that Jaime was still in a critical condition made him incredibly worried. A moment passed before the teen could reply to the doctor’s question as Sky was somehow surprised he was still Jaime’s emergency contact. “Y-yes, I’m his husband.” He confirmed, voice shaking as he wondered why they were looking for him.

“As his husband you have final say on the course of treatment. Jaime has lost a lot of blood from the blow to his head, and the bleeding is coming from a section of his brain close to his tumor. We can try to stop the bleeding with blood-clotters and put a patch, but there’s no guarantee we’ll be able to reach it without interfering with the tumor. Or we can try to take the tumor out in the process and make sure the bleeding stops when we have full visibility. Both options carry great risk...but we need you to make the decision since we know Jaime opposed to brain surgery before.” he explained. “I don’t want to rush you but we are running out of time. This is a time sensitive decision, and need an answer now.” Ariel’s hold on skyler’s hand tightened as she listened.

Sky let her cry it out, one hand rubbing Ariel’s back on a comforting manner. But as much as he tried to stay strong for her, the teen couldn’t help but let out some tears of his own. “Just thought it’d help to stay posite right now. And he’s strong, I know Jaime will fight if he can.” He replied, wiping away his own tears. “Let’s wait a bit more, maybe we’ll be able to get something from the doctors.” Sending her a small smile, he nodded. “You sounded so distressed on the phone, I couldn’t understand much but it was clear it was something serious so I had to come.” But honestly, Sky didn’t know if Jaime would really like to see him there when he woke up. Not after their last fight.

Ariel nodded. Skyler was right- they needed to stay positive. “Sorry about that. You think this is bad, I was ugly crying before.” she commented, wiping away the mascara under her eyes. She pulled him by his arm to where she was sitting, and took her seat next to him. Ariel rested her head against the other’s shoulder, finally taking a moment to truly catch her breath. Looking down for a moment, she checked her watch. It’d been a while since she’d called her mothers and they still weren’t there. She figured it was traffic. She was about to call them again when she saw the doctor approaching, and she stood up to get the update. “How is he?” she asked, before the doctor could even begin to talk. 

“He’s in critical condition.” he directed towards Ariel before turning to Skyler. “Are you his husband? A Skyler is listed as his emergency contact.”

Skyler was leaving a photoshoot when he got the call, he could barely understand Ariel through her distressed state and the tears but what he got was that Jaime was rushed to the hospital and she was there waiting to hear from him. That was enough to make the model take a taxi and ask the driver to take him there as fast as he could. His worry for Jaime only growing by the minute. Rushing into the hopital, Sky asked for his friend’s information at the reception desk. Which he was denied access to since he wasn’t close family. That was when he remembered that he divorce papers were signed and sent off but until they were validated, they were technically still married. The model used that to his advantage and asked again. This time they told him Jaime was in surgery and that he wasn in a critical condition. Skyler’s heart sank, he fought back tears, wanting to be strong for Ariel. Spotting her as he went to the waiting rooms, the model walked over and pulled Ariel into a tight hug. “He’s gonna be alright. He has to be.” Sky whispered, voice breaking.

Ariel tightly clung to Skyler. She cried into his shoulder, refusing to let go. “You- you don’t know that. There was so much blood. It was everywhere. It just wouldn’t stop coming.” she sobbed into his shoulder between inconsistent breaths. Finally pulling away a bit, she wiped he tears away. “He’s in surgery but they’re not telling me anything. I don’t know how he’s doing or what they’re doing to him.” she sniffled. Thats when she got a good look at him. She felt so selfish for crying to him when it was clear he was just as distraught as she was. “M’just glad your here. And I know he’ll be happy you’re here too.” Of course she knew what had happened between the two teens, but she also knew of the love they shared whether it was romantic or simply platonic.

Ariel and Jaime had been spending the day together. It was rare that they could just have a carefree day since she was working most of the time, but today was different. They were just walking around in the mall when her younger brother said he had a headache. At that point she knew it was a side effect from his tumor so she suggested they sit down for a bit then go home. Jaime refused. He didn’t want to ruin her day off and shook it off, following after her as she went to buy him a bottle of water. That’s when the headache got worse. He walking slowed down a bit, and suddenly his vision blurred out. Before he knew it he was falling, badly hitting his head against the floor. “Jaime!” Ariel yelped, running to his aid and kneeling down beside him. “Someone call for help! Please!” She pleaded then looked down when she felt something wet on her hands. Slowly a pool of blood had built up under Jaime’s head, and now it was all over Ariel’s head. Luckily the ambulance arrived soon, taking them both to the hospital. She had no choice but to wipe the blood off on her clothes. There so much of it, it made her nauseous but she held it to together him. She called up her mothers first, but the next call was to Skyler. She barely got through any of the calls because of her crying but she made sure they knew to make it there quickly; however, she didn’t give any details so they wouldn’t come there too distracted. The next twenty minutes were excruciating as she waited in the waiting area alone. She looked up at every doctor that passed by in search of any possible answers or at least an update but she got nothing. She only felt the tiniest bit of relief when she saw the other teen walking out the elevator. “Sky!” she called out to him, tears already swelling up in her eyes. @skylerxsullivan

As he got the confirmation that Jaime didn’t remember anything, Skyler’s world fell apart once again. It was suddenly hard to breathe and he could feel his eyes tearing up. But Sky tried to be strong for once, in case Jaime was in pain and needed him to take him to the hospital. The model waited for an answer to his questions, really worried for Jaime’s well being now, but when the younger male spoke next Skyler wished he didn’t. Hearing him call for someone else broke his heart even more if that was even possible. Silent tears fell from his eyes, as he coudln’t help but feel rejected, even if that wasn’t Jaime’s intention. “You broke up with him a while ago.” He replied quietly, voice breaking slightly before Sky started grabbring his clothes from around the room and getting dressed.

“I broke up with him?” Jaime raised his head to look at Skyler. He watched him picking up his clothes. He was baffled by the news. “Why? Why would I do that?” he questioned, tears freely streaming down his face. How long ago had he done that? Had he hurt Kai in the process? Did the other hate him now? “I wouldn’t do that to him.” he tried to convince himself, but even that was proving difficult considering he’d just woken up naked next to Skyler. “I love him.” he mumbled. None of what he was saying was meant to hurt Sky, but he was still processing his reality. “You need to go. Please.” though that probably didn’t need to be said since Sky had already been getting dressed. He hadn’t even noticed the other’s tears since his back was to him. “Just go.” Jaime said, bringing a pillow closer to hug onto in search of some comfort. Comfort he couldn’t quite as from his best friend right now.

Skyler watched Jaime closely, heart beating fast as he waited for a reaction. Seeing the panic on his husband’s eyes installed a fear on him that the worst case scenario was coming true and he wasn’t ready to go through everything again. As Jaime sat up, he followed. Feeling self conscious  as he noticed Jaime’s eyes on him, the model put his arounds around himself in a failed attempt to cover up some skin. “You really don’t remember?” He asked quietly, before getting worried for Jaime’s health. “How are you feeling right now? Does your head hurt?”

Jaime shook his head, not trusting his voice enough to not quicker as he spoke. As hard as he tried he couldn’t remember a single thing about last night. It’s like he’d blanked on everything. The last thing he could remember was spending time with Kai as he studied. That was it. And yet the other was no where in sight. The person next to him wasn’t Kai. And Skyler looked distraught. It was all so disorienting, that it was causing tears to build up in his eyes, blurring his vision from his own frustration. He pulled his knees closer to himself and ducked his head down to hide the fact that he was crying. “Where’s Kai? I want Kai.” he mumbled, sniffling a bit.
