“i wouldn’t say saved,” friedrich replied sheepishly, but happy to help. “you get me a milkshake every time we run into one another. i’m beginning to suspect that the milkshakes are more for you than me.” he was smiling, though, and already turning around so they could walk to their favorite ice cream shop together. “how has your day been, schätzchen?”
“well, i suppose we’ll simply have to agree to disagree. i personally feel certain that i would have died, had you not intervened.” her laughter was soft and bright, much like the girl herself. his suspicions only caused her grin to widen further. petite hands perched on her hips, she chuckled. “i resent such accusations! this is only out of the kindness of my heart, nothing more!” she turned to walk with him, naturally falling into step with his longer stride. “better now, thank you. i have a book, blessed relief from my celluar phone, and there are milkshakes to be had. oh, and i suppose you’re here, too.”
“Well, I did throw my phone and it did work.” Marguerite mused with a humored smile on her lips, ”Though, you could also just take its battery out. Works just as well.” She never thought the girl would actually consider it. She didn’t seem like the violent type to her. Slowly Marguerite stretched out her hand, nodding towards the phone, “Let me help you with that.”
“oh, it did?” her grin returned. “gosh, i feel completely out of my elements.” anything to keep it from going off at all hours.” though her smile was slightly sheepish, she got the sense that the woman standing in front of her wasn’t unfamiliar with the feeling. “the battery, do you know where it is? i’ve never seen a battery that could fit into something this small.” she handed over the phone gratefully. “i’m betty, by the way. thank you for helping me.”
upon being addressed, a brow raised towards the petite blonde, a look of confusion washing over his features upon not only the noise her small device had been making but also the fact she’d asked for his help. ❝ i’m afraid i can’t do much for you, i’m not even sure what that thing is. ❞ he’d been living in the 21st century almost two whole weeks now and still had yet to truly witness the creation that was commonly referred to as a ‘cell phone’. boy, did he have quite a lot to learn. ❝ i apologize. if i could do anything to help, i would. ❞
betty frowned, a line forming between her brows. “drat,” she intoned as she looked at the tiny gadget. “honest to goodness, it is impossible to understand everything happening around here. it’s all so fast and loud and strange.” blue eyes widened as she looked up at the man. “i’m sorry, i didn’t mean to complain. i’m being terribly rude.” she shook out her blonde hair as if to drive away her frustrations. “i’m elizabeth, but you most people call me betty.”
teddy, while still behind on the technology, was at least aware of what a cellphone was. when the girl seemed to jump out of her skin at the ringing, he couldn’t help the laugh that came out. “don’t trip, babe. the red button, tap it with your finger,” teddy still reached out and pressed his finger to the button to do it for her before shifting his gaze back to her, “someone said you can get books on that thing…” he said, gesturing to the phone, “might be helpful since you seem to be a bit clumsy,” he grinned, grabbing her book and holding it out for her before pulling it back before she would be able to grab it, “i’m not always this much of a gentleman… why don’t you repay me for being nice by going to get some lunch with me?”
a crimson blush spread over porcelain cheeks as betty realized that her misfortune had been noticed. she had rather hoped that she would somehow escape notice. still, she definitely wouldn’t refuse the free advice. she watched as he properly stopped the ringing sound and then faced him with a grateful smile on her lips. “thank you. it’s been doing that all day! i don’t know how people manage to carry these around all the time.” the words that followed made her cock her head to the side. “do they really? i ought to read up on it, then. would make things rather easier.” she took the book from his hands, her eyes dancing slightly. “i’m not sure that it counts as being gentlemanly if you intend to be repaid.”
friedrich still couldn’t believe the situation he was in; never in his wildest dreams could he have thought he’d be in this position. in america. in the future. completely free. the world was so enormous and open to him that it was almost overwhelming at times. he was on his way to the library, still catching up on all the history he’d missed, when he noticed betty looking troubled as she stared down at her phone. “i had the same problem this morning,” he replied with an easy smile, taking the phone when it was handed to her so he could do the appropriate taps and swipes to get it to shut off. “there you are.”
relief flooded betty as friedrich took the phone, quickly shutting off the incessant chiming tone. she supposed she must have turned on the alarm by accident once again. it had been an incredibly long morning when she had first determined the use of the button. with a soft smile, betty bent down and picked up her book before looking to friedrich once more. “sweet friedrich, you have saved me from technology once again.” out of the many people she had met in her time here, he had the kindest heart that she had yet encountered. “i don’t suppose i can get you a milkshake to say thank you?”
Marguerite raised an eyebrow and stopped, staring down at the girl’s phone. A weary smile appeared when she remembered those two phones she had already destroyed in the matter of two weeks and so far she was in no way getting another. Call her old fashioned, but she prefered old landlines. “Try throwing it against a wall. Worked for me.”
betty couldn’t quite get a handle on everything that had occurred in the past few days. it was like every moment was sensory overload. thankfully, she wasn’t the only person who seemed to be experiencing this strange reality. blue eyes crinkled as betty smiled, relief tinging her features. “thank goodness,” she sighed. “at least someone understands.” she drew back her hand, almost ready to throw her phone, then turned back to the girl with a sudden realization. a blush colored her cheeks. “that was a joke, wasn’t it? i’m no good at these things?”
elizabeth baker was walking down the street, a book in hand. despite everything strange about this time, it was a relief that she still had books. the sudden ringing of her cell phone ( a truly strange device ) surprised the girl enough that the book tumbled out of her hands. betty grasped the little device, looking at it with confusion, before turning to someone passing. “oh gosh, i’m sorry- could you help me? i can’t get it to stop making this noise.”
waddup demons it’s hannah your boi and i bring you my strawberry milkshake angel, miss elizabeth baker. info below the cut so pls feel free to like this or message me and we can plot (my absolute fave)
( josefine frida pettersen / female / she/her ). elizabeth baker wasn’t expecting to be given a second chance at life. the twenty one year old last remembers living in the 1950s in kent, connecticut. one thing they remember from their past is a pair of saddle shoes. they’ve been described as being charming and headstrong, but that is to be expected since they are a virgo.
so first off my girl answers to any and all nicknames- betty is probs the most common but she also gets bets, lizzie, liz, eliza, she’s heard them all. tbh she likes nicknames since she feels like they convey some kind of intimacy betwen people which??? is her shit man
by this i mean to say that betty is Soft tm
loves friendship and ice cream and family and all sorts of lame shit like that. your ideal all-american girl tbh (honestly she takes some cues from sandy olsen since she’s a gd Icon)
she basically had the perfect family- dad worked at a factory, mom was a homemaker, older brother played football, she was a cheerleader. they were pretty much idyllic... unless you count that her dad spent most of his time at the bar, haunted by his time at war, mom had a solid relationship with valium “mother’s little helpers,” and her brother was shipped off to korea as soon as he graduated.
that was the hardest part bc she loved her brother so much and was always so worried for him. also, without him at hom, her dad started targeting his aggression at her and her mom.
still, bets wasn’t going to let a bad family life stop her from being happy. being both beautiful and incredibly sweet, betty was incredibly well-liked at school.
definitely loved going to pep rallies, sockhops, sadie hawkin’s dances, and pretty much every social event available
she ran with an awesome group of girls that made every day an adventure and convinced her to take more risks
one of those risks was a handsome greaser (i think he’s gonna end up being a wanted connection) that she decided to go out with in senior year. it wasn’t long before they cared about each other a lot and bets was starting to think they could have a future together
of course.... her dad was.. less than pleased when he found out and told the guy in no uncertain terms that he had to break it off or both of them would really regret it
the guy ended things unceremoniously and left betty feeling really lost tbh
she decided that that was the last straw and decided to leave home, going with her girl gang friends to a local college that accepted women. it was strange, but she actually liked the experience- she felt in control of her own life, for once
her death was an accident. she was leaving class one day and saw a guy getting a bit too handsy with another girl. now, bets has a protective streak a MILE long so she wasn’t going to let that slide. she was crossing the parking lot to reach them when another driver came through too fast and hit her.
waking up, she’s probably got muscles soreness to last for DAYS. she’s, obviously, going to be confused and lost and very freaked to realize everything that’s happened... but it won’t keep her down for too long. she is one of those people that will always find the good in things. this won’t keep her down for too long. honestly, it will be very fascinating to her to talk to people from so many walks of life
