Basic polearm is also much easier to teach if you need to get a ragtag bunch of villagers/etc fighting ready very fast. And it requires less metal.

...but like that's not how it works at all, lol. yeah, if you're lucky, one spearman (gender neutral) can drop a trained swordman at distance. if the swordsman doesn't have a shield. if the swordsman doesn't just grab the haft of the spear. if the swordsman can't block and then run forward faster than the spearman can run backwards. i play sword sports, i've personally trained multiple kids how to overcome older, more experienced fighters using spears in a 1v1. it's not hard if you're ballsy and fast

spears are best used as a communal weapon; by design, they do not hit sideways so you need buddies in case you need to effectively hit something to your left or right. they are also best deployed with either a shield wall in front of them or another rank of spears behind them to make that close range space dangerous. if you can get close to a spearman, they're dead. swords, what with having more dangerous edges, are more versatile and give you more options.

now a glaive? using a spear like a quarterstaff? that's a completely different conversation

Rogue Trader's xenos pets, "pony" version

At first, i wanted to make them look like changelings from MLP:FiM. Dark creature with cheese-like legs for Marazhai, and colorful bug for Yrliet, but the more i thought on them - the more changes they got.

For now, i imagine it like Drukhari verisons has almost no color, so they are mostly shades of dray + minor color accents. They are also taller, thinner, has thicker "chitin" and different form of wings. When they get weakened by soul thirst - they start looking older, thinner and get holes in their legs like MLP changelings. As for Asuryani - they are colorful, has horns and their magic, and looks rounder than their pale cousins.

I don't want to dig too deep and hurt my brain to make design of a weapon usable for cartoon ponies, so i just don't draw it (:

From all playable non-secret companions only one left to do, so i hope i'll complete that project soon and share all party in one post

Managed to finish this before the new year thankfully. Lots of stuff going on at work again and next year is going to be even more busy than this year.

Pretty happy with how this came out. Its close to what I envisioned in my head which is rare. Thought the clouds would be the hardest part but actually the snakes on the frame were what really kicked my butt.
