@beam-attack
ive waited all year to be able to reblog this
The ceasefire agreement was reached and joy is floating among the Palestinian people
The joy is indescribable here all over the Gaza Strip. This thing seems like a literal miracle.
Rafah crossing will be opened tomorrow, God willing. We need help, friends. Please donate.
We are Dahnoun Mutual Aid. We are a group of volunteer organizers working to provide life-sustaining aid to Palestinians in Gaza.
This holiday season, please consider supporting Dahnoun Mutual Aid’s campaign to provide winter clothes and blankets in Gaza. Dahnoun is a Gazawi-run grassroots initiative that has been providing thousands of people in multiple areas of Gaza with water, food, baby milk, diapers, tents, and other supplies since July. With your donations, they are able to buy blankets and clothes in bulk at a reduced price and give them out at no cost to people sheltering in displacement camps. Their Chuffed campaign is linked above, and you can find their Venmo and Paypal in addition to documentation of the past several months’ aid initiatives on Instagram. The blankets and clothes fundraiser is detailed in a recent post: instagram.com/dahnounmutualaid
New community kitchen serving Mawasi Al-Qarara refugee camp in west Gaza
This campaign is a mutual aid initiative involving myself, my friends Mohammad Abu-Alwan and his two brothers in Palestine, and Shakhya Scri
This is an initiative aiming to buy food, diapers, and other necessities in bulk to distribute to the residents of Mawasi Al-Qarara camp. The campaign is vouched for by one of my contacts in Gaza, who lives in the camp and will be helping with distribution.
From the campaign page:
The families in the Mawasi Al-Qarara area are facing unbearable challenges, being displaced from their homes and living under the constant threat of missiles, disease, and starvation. We aim to provide as much aid as possible using every penny given to us. Mohammed and his brothers, Salah and Youssef, will be on the ground distributing everything to the people of the camp. These families are in desperate need of help. We hope to alleviate some of their fears and worries of death by starvation or illness, as they navigate such challenging circumstances. Your support can make a significant difference. Thank you for your generosity.
Please give generously and share broadly!

in 2025 a huge bottomless hole will appear in the middle of times square and people will be confused about how it got there and then eventually people will invent and spread the belief that they have to throw a live human in the hole once every day or else something bad will happen. and they will come up with this superstition completely without any kind of evidence and in reality nothing at all out of the ordinary would happen if they were to stop throwing people in the hole but nevertheless the people of new york will be very adamant that the hole needs a daily sacrifice and if you try to tell them otherwise then they'll throw you in the hole next. eventually there will be celebrities and world leaders touring the hole until eventually one day some politician or something gets assassinated by being pushed into the hole and then the government decides ok this has gone on long enough and they will cover up the hole completely. and then eventually after a couple of weeks everyone just completely forgets about the hole and goes about their business as usual like there was never any hole there at all. and all of this will happen within about the span of one or two months
so as a third world transfem there's a bit of a parallel that ive noticed and it goes kinda like this:
if you live in the Imperial Core (or maybe even first world countries in general tbh), you never have to consider the third world in your worldview. what i mean is, you can be born, have a long, rich, fulfilling life and then die of old age, never having thought of any of us beyond the 5 minutes after you get shown some sort of news piece. there's vast, vast swathes of people that think of mexico, or nicaragua, or argentina, or or or or - as basically just names on a map, if that much. we're not people to them, not really. and when we stand up and say "no actually, we are human beings, people worth just as much as any citizen of the Imperial Core", they get upset! because we are shaking the fundamentals of their worldview.
and there's not necessarily any malice involved! like, obviously some people that feel like this are malicious, but their personal feelings are irrelevant. the point is that their position insulates them both from knowing us and from any consequences of not knowing us, while we most assuredly are not protected from either of those things in response.
if you are not transfem, even if you are also queer in some way, a similar concept applies. you can have a full, rich, fulfilling queer existence while never having to take us into account! you can go to queer and inclusive events, watch queer and inclusive creators and shows, read queer and inclusive books, and so on and so forth, where we don't feature at all, or if we do, we are a throwaway! and so, when we stand up and say "hey actually we deserve as much space and respect as anyone else", they get upset! because we are shaking the fundamentals of their worldview.
im not saying they're related but ultimately both of these worldviews stem from a position of privilege, and can only be eliminated by destroying that privilege. i dont really know how we do that but this is mostly meant as an observation rather than a solutions post.
of all the things that scare me about palestine one of them is the lure of the story, the lure of turning people to myths, because its something i find myself doing. many things that have happened in gaza have become much larger than life. i keep thinking about khaled nabhan, who held his granddaughter so tenderly and called her the soul of my soul, and how those words and that image became so enormous that he was killed a year later wearing a t-shirt that a company had made to fundraise using those words—the soul of my soul. a doctor had brought it in for him from abroad. he was already a myth before he was dead.
i thought about it just now when i saw this image of dr hussam abu safiya walking towards an israeli tank after his "hospital fell" — the words of the poet mosab abu toha, that he used unconsciously in how he described the israeli siege of the last remaining hospital in the north of gaza. he said the hospital fell like it was a fortress. dr hussam abu safiya's teenage son was killed the first time israel raided the hospital. for over a month he refused to abandon his patients while he grieved. in that time we found out other hospital directors had been tortured after being arrested by israeli: doctor muhamed abu silmiya of al-shifa hospital (who was released after months of torture) and doctor adnan al-bursh who was tortured to death. in that month of starvation we saw him comforting his colleagues who lost their children to israeli attacks, and then he lost those colleagues themselves in israeli shelling of the hospital. still the hospital stayed, and dr hussam abu safiya stayed. he recorded a video from inside the hospital almost every day, showing the immobile patients and the brave staff, explaining that he would not abandon them. a delegation from indonesia made it to the hospital and tried to stay with the palestinian staff, israel forced them to leave at gunpoint. dr hussam stayed through it all.
after two months of siege, after ethnically cleansing the rest of northern gaza, israel finally forced its way into kamal adwan hospital and forcibly evacuated the staff and the patients. fifty people were killed during the attack, numerous patients and civilians (including women) stripped and abused by the soldiers, and forced to march in their underwear out in the freezing cold. and finally this is how we get this image, the last time dr hussam abu safiya was seen as israel burned down the hospital he had done his best for, walking alone through the rubble towards the israeli tanks, knowing what awaits him:
a lot of the things happening in gaza right now and over the past year are much larger than most people can accept. they are acts of heroism and tragedy that demand to be remembered. and because palestinians have asked us to bear witness, at least to bear witness, we have fallen into the habit of a kind of mythologizing. in arabic and english. i've seen it from gazans themselves, who have often written their own eulogies and wills before dying. this is how systemic this genocide has been. how forecasted. how foretold.
i think a lot about refaat al areer's work, and his famous poem "if i must die" that he wrote before his death. refaat is another story from gaza that was already mythologized by none other than himself. but i also know people who knew refaat personally. they don't talk about him like a story. they talk about him like a friend they lost. they talk about him like a teacher they lost. when that happens the mythology around him seems very small and worthless compared to the scale of the loss.
people from gaza aren't predestined myths. they're not dead people walking. they're not heroes we are here to watch die. they're not stories and tragedies to mine. they're people. this is a person who has just lived through all that. these are hundreds of thousands of people who just lived through all of these things. these are hundreds of thousands of people who have lost all of these things. and israel is full of people who did that to them. that's a story too, i guess.

Northern Gaza has been starving for 2 months now
Please donate to the Sameer Project and Dahnoun Mutual Aid. Many NGOs and nonprofits have ceased operations in the north due to danger and lack of supplies — these are two Gazawi-led grassroots initiatives that buy food, water, clothes, and baby supplies in bulk to serve the most vulnerable people in their communities in the North at no cost.
Translating Falasteen (Palestine), in collaboration with The Sameer Project, launched a fundraising campaign to support families in Gaza fac

answering a couple questions i got on this post since i realized ppl genuinely wanna know:
tl;dr:
israel lets very, very little aid get into gaza. even the UN can't get in as much as they want to. funding individual families, gazan led initiatives, and mutual aid collectives operating out of gaza ensures gazans can provide for themselves and pay for the extremely expensive aid that is available.
with all the civil infrastructure destroyed by israel, the situation on the ground has devolved into unrestricted capitalism, driving up the price of aid (that should be free!). this makes it more urgent for people to have funding for daily survival.
the post linked above has examples of how donating to individual families can help a lot. if you want to help more than one family at a time, there are many gazan-led initiatives focusing on rebuilding their infrastructure and distributing aid fairly that are worth donating to instead of large charities that already get the majority of donations.
as i mentioned in the last post: @/careforgaza on twitter is a nonprofit started by gazans, it's been endorsed by multiple palestinian journalists.
the sameer project is a collective organized by diaspora palestinians offering emergency shelter to gazans.
ele elna elak is a project aiming to bring water, food, shelter, etc. to gazans and has been promoted by bisan owda.
and the municipality of gaza itself is fundraising to rebuild water infrastructure.
all of these organizations are active inside gaza right now and are being run by gazans. if anyone knows of other gazan-led mutual aid projects, nonprofits or charities feel free to link them in the notes! hope this helped!
long answers under the cut!
plugging gaza soup kitchen for those with the means to donate! it's another gazan-led initiative currently providing food, water, classes for children, and medical care across the north and south. you can donate through their website or their gofundme, or follow them on instagram for news about their projects
please also consider taking a look at dahnoun mutual aid (instagram link), another ghazzawi-run initiative doing great work using very little funds! they're currently distributing winter clothes for young children, as well as food and water, infant formula, tents, and cash. they've also got a chuffed
“As we implement our new strategy of replacing tents based on areas and encampments most in need, we want to share with you this story of a family in dire conditions - this is the brother of the honorable martyr Refaat Alareer.
We have known about this extended family and the area they live in since mid July. However, it was not until this week that we could come in and serve this encampment of destroyed and makeshift tents.
Just to show you that no one in Gaza is immune to the suffering and pain, Refaat Alareer’s family, despite his magnitude as a Palestinian scholar and activist, is living in some of the worst tents we have seen.
It was our honor to assist them and respect the legacy of the man who we are so fortunate to have been given permission to name our camp after. Check back later in the week to see how we provided tents for Refaat’s brother’s family and supported the encampment that needed so much help.”
Please continue to give so we can serve these communities with shelter this winter. The Tents, Cash Aid, and Medical campaign:

Hello
For those who don't know me, my name is Nader
I am a young man of 17 years old, very young, but I carry concerns and responsibilities that people of 40 and 50 years old do not carry. My brother Abdul Salam launched this campaign a while ago to save our family from certain death and to stay alive in light of the current situation in the Gaza Strip.
My family is very large, it consists of my mother, father, my four brothers Abdul Salam, Omar, and Muhammad, me, my brother's wife, and their one-year-old daughter Iman.
To clarify
my father has cancer and my brother's daughter Iman suffers from malnutrition in light of the current famine. Prices have risen to amounts we cannot afford.
GoFundMe LINK
Since I started our campaign, I have been trying to communicate with people and ask them for help. Some people helped me,❤️ and others blocked me and accused me of fraud.💔💔
But what should I do? Tell me what I should do to prove that we are suffering. I have written several posts in which I mentioned our suffering and attached pictures of the difficult life we live, but unfortunately it seems that this is not enough to convince people to help us. I have become desperate and frustrated. From the intensity of trying and always failing, but fortunately I met people who helped me and motivated me with their words to me, and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
But guys, we are still suffering, we are still dying here. I have tried hard. I always try to collect donations, but unfortunately I write posts that get a lot of comments, but unfortunately there are no people who donate to us. We really need your donation. Please, if you have donated to us before or not, I beg you to donate this time and send this post to someone you know who can donate. Please do not leave us alone. You are our last chance at life. Please take a picture of your donation and add it to this post and ask your friends or anyone you know to match your donation. This will be a great motivator for many people. If you know anyone who has a lot of followers here or on other social media sites, ask them to write a post about our situation. I will be very grateful to you. Please, guys, stand by us in this ordeal.
